  1. I shoot it all the time. 1000s of rounds down range in several different guns. Never had a problem. The steel case wearing out your gun in an internet myth, nothing more. Now I will say, they shoot at lower pressure than higher quality ammo. And may not be the cleanest, but it's just as clean as Win white box and everybody loves that stuff. That price is a little high. But if you are comfortable with it, go for it. And enjoy your day at the range with it!
  2. Got to shoot the AR today. Runs great. Shot brass, steel and a mix of both hiccup free. Thanks the help people.
  3. Very nice. There is a strong reseblence to my bench 10-22. I wish I had done a silver optic on mine now that I've seen yours. Well done sir!
  4. Alright, so I weighed my buffer and it is right at 3 oz. I also removed the gas block and the current gas port is .099, however. I have a DPMS stainless 1-8 twist barrel. I've read somewhere they drill the port between the rifling. After studying it for a few minutes, I realized I had aligned the gas block square with the upper reciever. It actually needs to be canted ever so slightly to align with the port. I marked the barrel on the larger diameter where the port is, and then aligned the block to that. It isn't much diffence, but there is enough I believe it will affect how much is transferred to the bolt. I will try to get out in the next day or two and see if it helped and report back here....
  5. Well, I have a rifle length gas system. To make matters worse, the barrel started life at 20", and I have cut it back to 18", recrowned and rethreaded. I didn't open the port any figuring the original setup would be slightly overgassed as most factory built guns are, and hoped it would balance out. I think I am right on the edge of sufficient gas supply right now.
  6. Dolomite you are a wealth of information. I would say you are 100% correct. The NiB carrier is a m16 style, and the phosphate carrier I tried was a "enhanced" style carrier. There is quite a bit of weight difference. I'm not sure exactly what buffer weight I have. I used a PSA milspec buffer assembly. Says it's a CAR buffer on the website.   I might open the gas port, or I could always take a little weight off the carrier itself. Or like Triple digit said, just shoot good ammo in it.
  7. Alright, I need some help here. I just finished my 3gun build and got to run it through the paces yesterday. Here is the problem. I put a NiB BCG in it. It does not like steel case ammo, AT ALL! It won't pick up next next round from the magazine. It strips the first round fine. And one time it loaded a round in the chamber, but did not go into battery.  I shot about 75 rounds of brass case with the NiB and ran like a well oiled sewing machine. Now, the rifle will shoot steel case with with a phosphate BCG, but not with thte nickle boron. What's up with that?
  8. Just like everything else the government does these days. None of it is for our benefit. It's all about control...
  9. Don't forget the ejector pin, spring and retaining pin. I say this because I built a bolt from scratch and forgot them. You know a dang AR won't spit the case out without these components. Strange huh?
  10. There is MTPSA. They have 3gun last Saturday of the month I believe, but it is seasonal. Here is a link to the site, but it hasn't been updated since the fall. Located close to Lewisburg.   http://mtpsa.atspace.com/
  11. Senator Graham is my new hero.
  12. I agree with using the phosphorus from matches. There would be some engineering involved to light it up. Maybe use paper instead of actually primers so your firing pin could penetrate the paper to induce friction. Finely ground titanium and magnesium are highly flammable as well, although you won't find that just lying at the steps of every household. Of course, caps are actually gun powder. So, in theory you could use gun powder in the primer pocket as well.
  13. Oh how I drool looking at the X-Five. Saw a pic on the web, and went ballistic until I called my dealer to see about ordering one. Cha ching. And that was a year ago. I love Sigs, have owned and shot several models. Some people dislike how the controls are different and you have to retrain to operate them effeciently. They are fine firearms regardless.
  14. Walmart in Tullahoma didn't have crap this morning unless you are shooting a scatter gun or deer rifle.
  15. I'm curious about brass "life" as well. I just bought a cheap Frankfort Arsenal tumbler on sale and some crushed walnut. Added a few drops of car polish and let 350 9mm cases dance for about an hour. They look new. I am gonna have to get a separator though.
  16. You can also visit www.reloadersnest.com for some recipe ideas. Just to give you some comparison, I load 147gr moly coated lead 9mm, and only use 3.3 gr of Unique. Shooting an M&P for IDPA and 3gun. So far, this has been very reliable for me. SO, the other members are right in suggesting you have to find a load that is safe and reliable, and is tailored to your needs.
  17. Channel 5 had a commercial  tonight also.
  18. I noticed "Dear Kevin" was in blue, were as the rest was in black in the actually email. So it was just a generic response I guess. Well that sucks. Hey, at least we have voiced our opinions...
  19. This is the reply I got from him yesterday:     Dear Kevin,   Thanks very much and letting me know what’s on your mind regarding the right to bear arms.   I’m a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. Congress should not pass laws that take away these rights from law abiding citizens and leave criminals to terrorize the streets. Good citizens don’t abuse guns – criminals do. I will continue to support legislative efforts to protect the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans, and oppose efforts to overturn the Second Amendment.   In two recent cases, the U.S. Supreme Court clearly held that the Second Amendment protects the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms. In the 2008 case, D.C. v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that D.C.’s restrictive gun laws violated the constitutional rights of Americans. Two years later, in McDonald v. Chicago, the court struck down the city of Chicago’s handgun ban and held that, like the federal government, state and local governments must respect Second Amendment rights. I joined legal briefs in both cases in defense of this constitutional right and was pleased with the Supreme Court’s decisions.   I am grateful you took the time to let me know where you stand. I’ll be sure to keep your comments in mind as Second Amendment rights are discussed and debated in Washington and in Tennessee.   Sincerely, Lamar
  20. Mossberg 930. I have seen the field/security combo for less than $500. Has a 28" and 18.5" barrel. I've had two 930s and both were good shooting guns. The aftermarket options for stock is unlimited, although Mossbergs tang safety isn't as easy to use with a pistol grip.
  21. Very true, but those Mori"s aren't cheap toys. You are right, 95k is a bit ubsurd. Tell you what, I'll get a license to manufacture and make them for half that price. Taking orders now....who's in? Haha.   It is a good looking rifle.
  22. Owning a machine shop myself, I don't see how manufacturers make guns as cheap as they do. Which is the same reason gunsmiths don't make a decent living. Titanium sucks to machine by the way.
  23. I ordered a buffer tube assy and an LPK from palmetto on the 19th. It still hasn't shipped. I emailed them on the 4th, which was 15 days, and my response said it should go out this week. I had ordered some upper parts from midwayusa the 19th as well, and they were shipped a few days later. Obviously some places have had higher volume than others, and aren't equipped to handle it. On a side note, I had requested a notification from aimsurplus when .223 came into stock. Got the email yesterday morning, while I was online, so I immediately went to order and they sold out before I could finish my order. It was less than 10 minutes from the email notification...
  24. I stopped at Dunham's here in town this morning for a cheap IWB holster. Found a Tapco 30 round, 5.56 AR mag on the shelf for $12.99. I used my 20% coupon, so I got it $10 and some change. Luck I guess. Didn't go there for mags, but hated to pass it up. Would have bought more if they had them. Heck if I had been able to get 5 or 6 I could have resold them and paid my house off the way the market is these dyas!
  25. I already have an Aimpoint. I need something with a little magnification. I used a Leupold VX-ii 1-4x for a match or two this year, but it just has a duplex reticle. I want something with a BDC or mil dot reticle. I have considered sending my Leupold back to  the factory and just having the reticle changed. Which is probably my cheapest option, and still have quality glass.
