    Ruger LCR 9mm

Negative. Will probably take a look at one when they're readily available but its still a little bit early for them to be showing up. Not impossible mind you but somewhat unlikely.
  2. If the Taurus or KelTec you purchased is only going to be a range gun or safe queen than attempting to modify the ProMag's your having difficulties with is an option. If its a carry gun then forget it and purchase some factory magazines regardless of expense as they're the cheapest insurance policy you'll ever buy. As to mods it comes down to experimenting with the follower and feed lips and is pretty much a waste of time because the problem is generally ammunition related i.e. gun only likes ball ammo etc. I've had first hand experience with the PF-9 and its not a bad pistol but its also not one I choose to own another of.
  3. If you are fully competent and confident with a revolver the S&W you've mentioned is a good choice. If not then do yourself a favor and go with either an SP101 or M-60 so you can shoot the gun often enough to get good with it. Yep, they're heavier but they'll hold together a lot better than an Airweight Smith.
  4. The important thing to learn here is don't get so caught up in the novelty of being able to legally carry a handgun that you become another victim. Furthermore it would be prudent to avoid other people who might become victims acting in much the manner the young victim in the article did.

    Walther PPX ?

The use of MIM in the barrel is disquieting to me but everything I've reviewed indicates its a non issue. Considering the ergonomic (great) and price (equally great) this pistol is an excellent value for the dollar. FWIW if I were in the market for a new G-19 or M&P 9 I'd probably have to really consider the PPX and some extra magazines instead as all indications are its that good of a deal.
  6. http://koin.com/2014/10/07/man-practicing-open-carry-law-robbed-of-gun/   If its your want to Open Carry as TN HCP permits keep in mind the inherent risk. By all means do as you see fit to do and the law allows just don't forget the potential cost of a bit of flash. And if anyone takes this as anything other than a personal safety reminder and takes issue I've no desire to argue the matter.

    Glock42

I like everything about the G-42 except the fact its a 9mmK instead of a 9mmP, it'd be a five round magazine in 9MMP but I'd still buy it. Until then I'm content with my LCP and see no need to purchase the current G-42.
  8. One of the things you should understand about the FBI’s training and procurement side is its hieratical nature and aversion to non constructive change. These folks understand firearms training to an unparallel degree and are generally mirrored by LEA World Wide. It doesn’t mean they’re always right but rather well informed. Unfortunately Federal LEA, like State, County & Municipals all have to deal with insiders who drive the train on what the best new service pistol will be. If you’d told when I entered LE that most LEA in the USA would be carrying a plastic framed pistol in what was essentially the .40 G&A wildcat I’d have laughed at you. Now seeing the circular logic return to the 9mm P, which is essentially a compromise mid-range cartridge amuses me. It however, functions adequately in the real world as a defensive cartridge with JHP ammunition. Still, with all of the fanfare and such behind the .357 SIG I’d have expected this to be the .40 S&W & 9MM P successor in the FBI DOJ. As I mentioned in an earlier post none of this is new business, additionally personal bias and outsider political intervention really influence Federal LEA firearms acquisitions. Me, I actually enjoy the 9mm P, like the .45ACP, cut my teeth on the .38 Special and love the .357 Magnum on an N Frame or Python platform.
  9. The 686 is very Python-ish in it's handling but is lighter than the M-27/M-28. Prior to the introduction of the 686/586 a very popular custom revolver set up was a S&W M-19 with a Colt Python barrel installation, it looked great, was affordable and handled well. IIRC it was called a SMOLT. As much as I love my S&W K & N frames I never took a serious liking to the L frame. I really like the GP-100 though, even though it doesn't;t look as good as a 686 or Python.   I will mention a couple of additional RUGER used gun's to seriously consider. A 4" Security Six or a Speed Six. They are somewhat collectable but still affordable and are the best looking RUGER DA wheel guns ever made.
  10. If its a range gun go with a RUGER Blackhawk Convertible in 9MM P/.357 Magnum, you'll love it and discover just how accurate a good SA revolver can be as well. Should you desire a DA/SA revolver and want to stick with new or near new then go with a GP-100 with the 6" barrel as its added sight radius is a huge plus. This is why one of my favorite revolvers is a 1970 vintage S&W M-27 6" Barrel. Should you desire a .22LR then I recommend a RUGER Single Six convertible in 22LR/22 Magnum, but if you really want a fun gun go with the RUGER Bearcat in 22 LR, I love mine.
  11. If you've got deep enough pockets the PF9 does well in that carry mode and for that matter does fine in coat pockets. Otherwise use a belt slide holster or and IWB as I don't recommend the clips. It isn't unheard of for a pistol carried with its trigger guard and trigger exposed to go bang when you don't want it to happen. The bottom line is if you want to take the pistol off w/o removing your belt then get a paddle holster.
  12. No. I hated it due to its smallish trigger guard. Darn thing made me flinch. The LC9 was somewhat better.
  13. Star Model B's are a good C&R acquisition but I wouldn't want one for regular shooting or as an addition to a defensive gun battery. As for shooting +p through them, don't, and for darn sure don't recommend such to a friend or individual you sell a non +p rated handgun to.
  14. G'crait I agree on presentation, penetration and follow up being of importance with .32 ACP pistols but respectfully disagree on FMJ being the "do-all"  of such caliber enthusiasts.  Contact wounds create catastrophic wound cavities as do neck and occipital wounds, in other words if your within spitting distance aim better. The 9mmK is a step up insofar as pocket rockets go but still has its on issues. Pocket pistols have real limitations and trade offs but are a whole lot better than nothing. BTW you turned a butt ugly Gaston bullet hose into a dog ugly one there. ;-)=
  15. Adjustable sight .357 Magnum revolvers in the mentioned price range are possible but will not be NIB. Were I going this route and of the aforementioned hamfisted demographic group I'd save a bit more money and go with a GP-100. They're big hand friendly out of the box and have lots of aftermarket replacement stock offerings. Another option is a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Magnum, simple to operate, work on and fun to shoot.   Were I going the S&W wheel gun route (I admit to being a S&W revolver snob) it's prudent to mention Bill Jordon who was also hamfisted could run a M-19 like a house on fire. With that my leanings have always been towards the N-Frame so I'd suggest a used 4" M-28 if you ever run across one.
  16. In your price range I'd suggest a RIA or its ARMSCOR slightly plainer equivalent.
  17. Used Beretta 92 FS or a used Taurus PT92 for the "all metal" DA/SA qualifier. Ditto on the used S&W 5906 but don't forget the older Ruger P-85-P-89 & P-94.
  18. I don't know how old the S&W BG W/Laser illuminator you've purchased is but the first two or three years of production had reliability issues with the Laser. The newer production models with the integral laser have one from another manufacture.  The BG .380 doesn't do anything to interest me enough to purchase one but I know a number of people who love it.
  19. At one time a favorite assignation weapon of the MOSSAD IIRC.
  20. Much ado about nothing is my take on this whole mess and I've been reading this drivel since the late 1960's. In the end it comes down to training, common sense and street smarts because if you can't hit it than what difference does the round make?
  21. I also went with the XDs 9 with the 3.3" barrel slightly before the same pistol with the 4" barrel was available and am very pleased with mine. I'll probably purchase an XDs 45 with the 4" barrel for winter rotation within the next month or so. If the larger XD models had the same slide design then the full sized XD's would become my go to striker fired pistols. :pleased:
  22. Intriguing but not necessarily ideal considering the trade offs of full moon clips, even though they afford speedier reloads. I believe this is one of those "I'd like to see it, handle it and think about it" revolvers. If I'm going the route of an LCR .357 Magnum platform I'd sooner stick with it in .357 Magnum with mid range loads. That's my personal take on the matter. In the end though I expect it t have a brief flurry of interest with moderate purchases and then fade into obscurity.
  23. I'd say go with the Ruger but make it a GP100 instead of the SP101, much more comfortable to shoot, longer sight radius and holds six rounds instead of five. If you want to keep an old school appearance then go with a 3" or 4" fixed sight version. It might not be an old 38/44 or New Model Colt but its still a mighty good gun.

    Changes to my 642

Surprisingly enough you can shoot a J -frame S&W just fine w/o oversized grips and its a whole lot easier to carry. The key thing is to learn and "dial in" a functional hand hold of said grip while shooting. Then practice it until it becomes instinctive. It behooves one to realize the J-frames were and are pants pocket and coat pocket revolvers to most shooters. Aside from crappy sights they're also capable of accuracy far in excess of their stubby little barrels.
