  1. I watched it a couple of weeks ago and it was captivating. The firearms and props appear to be period correct and the storylines really good. After I finished watching it I spent the next couple of days researching it online which was very worthwhile. I've always been a fan of the Carl Gustav m/45 and Vickers HMG which are very prominent in this film. Its interesting how the Irish Army of hat period had a hodgepodge of Enfield rifles, FN/FAL's. Swedish K SMG and the Vickers HMG. They just used what they already had and the little that they could afford.
  2. I've been researching Solar Cookers which most of us generally lump into the Solar Oven genre for a while now with mixed feelings about them. I also began looking at rocket stoves as a complement to the solar cookers. With either you can either go DIY or purchase a manufactured product. While I've yet to decide on the rocket stove. I've decided on and ordered two different types of solar cookers for less then $200.00 combined to experiment with. As far as the rocket stove goes I'm still trying to decide but should have one ordered in another week or so. Would anyone here care to share what they've learned or done with respect to solar cookers and rocket stoves? FWIW from a recreational and outdoor cooking perspective I'm experimenting with alternative options.
  3. http://elections.mytimetovote.com/dates/tennessee.html It's supposed to end a week prior to election day and the above link indicates Nov. 3. 2016 but as busy as its been I wouldn't recommend waiting to the last day.
  4. You'd either report it to your local police department of sheriffs department, it just depends on which is responsible for patrolling your area. If none of the documents had your FIL's name on them it makes me wonder why the BoA sent him credit cards with his name on them. He should call or go by the closest local law enforcement agencies office with the documentation he has and ask for someone to make a report.
  5. I went to do my early voting thing today and was surprised at the higher then usual turn out I found there, in many ways it was like a busy primary election day. It's really to bad that voting turn outs have been so poor these last few Presidential Elections, I like seeing a lot of people voting.
  6. Freshwater wells are expensive. Once your pump and wiring are replaced make sure to insulate the replacement well house. Whenever you build a house look at using water barrels and a cistern. It's a lot cheaper to use filtered rain water to take care of livestock and gardens then it is to use well water. Electrically powered pumps draw a lot of amperage which equates to a lot of money.
  7. http://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/asrx-cplt-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.htm Well it might look somewhat toyish but it's sure a lot more sturdy looking then the Keltec Sub 2000, but then the Sub 2k isn't available in the 10mm.
  8. Classic example of being so exhausted you've stopped thinking and are on autopilot
  9. I'm wondering if she's talking about the Aero Survivor rifle? Is it by TNW? If so it looks like it uses Glock mags
  10. I've seen canted mag pouches before and your set up looks better. The holster concept looks like a nice proof of effort project and your leather work is outstanding.
  11. You can even buy... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l2632.R2.TR12.TRC2.A0.H1.Xaircr.TRS0&_nkw=aircraft&_sacat=6038&_oac=1
  12. I've been pleased with the Ruger SR22 and like the Beretta 21a as well but have to say the Walther TPH 22 is the classiest .22LR pistol I've ever encountered.
  13. If you recall the original Ruger LC9 started out as a hammer fired DAO pistol and was updated to the striker fired LC9s. The LC9 was later discontinued with the LC9s being a much better pistol. Think of the striker fired LC9s trigger assembly as being very Glock'ish. That's my thoughts as well and I really don't see Glock making both a LCP and LCP II at the same time for very long. I'll have to see and handle one myself to know if its a better overall set up.
  14. I read about the LCPII earlier in the week and have been trying to visualize how much larger it is in comparison to the LCP. The "shorter, improved trigger" sounds interesting but the rest might be gilding the lily.
  15. *blinks* Well... that's certainly thinking outside of the box...instead of a super hero it's granny...

    New Toy.

I've been noticing more and more of those out and about lately. Very nice. Congrats.
  17. I knew an army helicopter pilot from another forum who'd taught himself how to fly small toy RC helicopters prior to going the warrant officer pilot route. He was convinced that his experience with that RC helicopter made his helicopter flight school easier for him to understand and complete. I have some other friends who are just tech savvy...ham radio, computers and hobby electronics that took to quad rotor UAV's like ducks to water. But then they were the only ones I knew with the readily disposable income to drop $800+ dollars on a UAV. Me? The only RC aircraft I've ever flown were string controlled.
  18. FWIW if the gun was reported as being stolen that information would have been amoung the earliest press releases. It would be very useful to the department or media. It's probably a gun that's gone through more then a few previous owners and ended up in a previous convicted felons hands. It may have even been stolen and never reported as such due to another owners legal status.
  19. I suggest you explain that in front of a judge then, no other traffic or not its still you in control of the vehicle.
  20. @56FordGuy you keep playing that same old record of who is harmed by someone being in possession of weed and a handgun at the same time. You refuse to accept that a statute or law was in place and its violation hurts no one. Go out in a multi family residential parking lot in daylight and pull out your makings while people are out and about. Make up a big doobie and fire it up. Have your handgun in sight of the public to while your smoking that joint while sitting behind your steering wheel. When someone calls the police or someone you don't know is a police officer sees you and the police respond then argue your case to them. You tell everyone "hey, no harm here, I can do this".
  21. Oh I'd long since realized several of you were radical anarchists, you might look at Somalia and see how well that's worked out for them. As to the actions leading up to the incident you continue to insist was just some guy who wasn't doing anything because there wasn't a victim of a crime. Well, first of all your more interested in proving your point then accepting that the observance of the infraction or violation(s) led to the contact. How about you get caught driving while impaired. Say its an empty highway with no other traffic aside from the police officer who sees you weaving about and all over the place. You get stopped, fail field sobriety tests and are arrested, subsequently you either fail a blood alcohol test or refuse to take it and are charged with an implied consent violation. Guess what your going to find out. The community as a whole is the victim. Your argument that none of this should have happened because it shouldn't be against the law to smoke weed or be in possession of a firearm while smoking weed is specious at best. As for ex-cons who've been convicted for violent felonies being in possession of firearms being alright. I actually hope your never the victim of a violent crime or have a family member victimized by a career criminal.
  22. @56FordGuy take the marijuana and handgun a few steps further. The subject was seated behind the steering wheel of a parked P/U truck located in a multi housing residential area. IOW he had the opportunity and means to drive the vehicle and potentially endanger others after being observed using what officers believed to be marijuana. Would it have been any different if he was drinking a beer or sipping from a half pint of hooch in a brown paper bag? Now factor in the handgun that by some accounts was pointed at plain clothes officers. So now you've got a guy toking a joint with a gun. Someone ingesting a mind altering substance and armed with a handgun is kind of concerning to me. I believe it would pass the reasonable prudent man doctrine as well. So the police are kind of in a duty to act position. What happened later was pretty crappy but came down to not putting the gun down. As to the why marijuana and firearms laws are in place your preaching at the wrong people. Trying to tie that into the police interactions on this is moot but I don't disagree with your dissatisfaction on marijuana and firearms laws. But again, parked or otherwise the marijuana and handgun with a subject behind the wheel of a motor vehicle made for additional urgencies. It's only after the fact the past criminal history of the subject came to light which provides some insight as to how Mr. Scott had responded in the past. Now whatever was going through the minds of the Charlotte, S.C. officers involved in all of the above is supposition on my part but I've been in similar circumstances with less dramatic endings. If you want to limit police citizen contact powers then go after your legislators.
  23. I agree it looks interesting and also appears to be in that in between G-19/G26 size that some other manufactures have embraced. W/O doubt I'll at least try to take a look at one when they become readily available but at this point the next purchase I make isn't going to be a compact 9mmP or .40S&W.
  24. As I understand it originally the Ruger American was to be another product line in addition to the SR product line. Some initial concerns pertaining to the SR series being discontinued were discounted. Now its looking to be more likely the Ruger American is replacing the SR's which if correct will be another orphaned Ruger model. Ruger is very smart about upgrading its product line to draw new customers and induce current customers into "upgrading" their own personal firearms.
