  1. Get him hooked on shooting.  Gently remind him that the guy who shot his friend would not have stopped at the door due to a sign, and that the only people he stops are the good guys.    Best of luck with it.   Most of the places I would like to go that have a sign are corporate policy.   In at least 2 of those, they have given me permission to enter and ignore the sign, though that is of no use to anyone else.  I should try out more mom& pop stuff, might have better luck.
  2. watch the spell checker or typing, "fallow" sneaked in there twice.    Otherwise, good job!  I have been sending out similar stuff, but I have also been including 1st and reminding them that video games and TV are ALSO not to blame.
  3. And I support that:   his 50 bmg is not legal there anyway and he refuses to sell it to their police etc.   Good for him.   But that isnt the same as S&W doing it, which again, would screw the gun owners and harm no one else.
  4. I liked REM until they sold out and went big, they kinda lost too much when they did that.   I will also say that I would LOVE to have the REM & B52s combine for a bunch of songs.  They did 2 or 3 with the REM singer & b52 girls and they sound awesome together.   I dunno if they ever did more or not, been a long time since I listened to the softer stuff.  Takes a pretty special vocalist to get me into anything less than thrash.   The female voice MADE shiny happy people work.  Without it, it was just an idiotic song, but with it, its a whole lot better.   Saw REM in chattanooga in the early 90s, 91, 92?  Have not thought about them a lot since those days.
  5. Let me say it this way:   I am 100% OK with any law that the government passes that dictates that I must OWN something SO LONG AS the government PROVIDES THE ITEM FOR FREE and DOES NOT RAISE TAXES TO PAY FOR IT.   Now, that said, feel free to buy me as many guns safes as you want, Mr president.
  6. its not always that easy to move, get a new job, etc.  There are a LOT of pro gun people in NY and CA and other places.  They are in the minority and they get screwed every which way, but they do exist.  Look again at the thread showing off CA complient AR15s ---- they may have to obey stupid laws, but a number of folks want to own these guns and do own them, and shoot them.     While I understand where you are coming from, its attacking the wrong people.  Refuse to bulk sell guns to their PD/guard/etc -- fine.  Refuse to sell to the folks that live there individually, not so hot.   The only ones who would suffer would be the folks that cannot afford to move to a better state.    Remember: they would not have to BAN AR15 in NY if no one had them.  They would not have to ban mags over 10 if no one had those.  Someone up there has these things, and those someones are probably a lot like you & me.
  7. Small rifle powder will make an excellent sub 300 yard paper puncher in those big rifles --- I use 2230 in mine for a gentle target load.  As a side effect the light load can be tweaked to fit the sights, which are sighted out too far and off with full loads at shorter ranges.   Its probably poorish to try to make a full power load with these powders though.   Small pistol is going to be hard to find but large rifle should be found with a little bit of luck.   Sportsmans has had powder, as have other stores, every time I have gone, though I have not looked to see what exactly it was I noticed a few jugs.
  8. Its nothing personal, its just with their rocket "technology" they needed a very big target to test on.  The continental US is about right, though they may try for the ocean again like the last few if they need a sudden change of plans.
  9. Yes.  The leftys DO think that the BEST way to stop crime is POWERFUL GUNS in the hands of the STATE faced off against a DISARMED society.   This is just standard police state mentality, nothing new or exciting or interesting to see here.
  10.   don't stop there, let us know how *that* project goes.  People do it, but its a royal pain.
  11. "Gimme your wallet or I am going to kill you" --- "You seem angry and hostile, how do you FEEL about that"    Nope, not gonna work methinks.    If you throw out the assaults that are pure evil (rape, robbery, or just murder for fun),  the criminal element (rival gang, rival drug dealer, double crossed ilicit transaction, etc),  the whackos (mass shootings, rampage for fun, etc), and accidents (derp, it was LOADED and just "went off")  what you have left is a very tiny number of shootings where to idiots, often under the influence of something (back to being criminals and victimless crime again) get into a fight (often they know each other, relatives or even drunk friends) and one of em shoots the other.    For that 0.1 % of shootings where the guys get PO'ed and shoot each other in anger, they might be on to something.   But this is a very, very low number (again, ignoring the criminals that know each other, even if it is out of anger --- that does not count for me).
  12. It will save you a lot of money if you USE your prep gear and replace it as you go.   Rather than find yourself facing zombies with 15 year old granola bars and expired asprin, for example, use it, buy a new one, and "rotate the stock".
  13. Heh, you do not need to work that hard to deal with a liberal that insinuates you are a dumb hick.   Its really, really simple actually.  Not a ONE of em can do any math beyond high school level.   Soon as they bust out the dumb hick thing, hand them a sheet of paper and let their ivory league education go to work.   A good one is AX+XB = C (a,b,x,c are matrices...)  find X.   With any luck, they will blowout their cortex and go home drooling.
  14. HP one had NO .22 today.

Welcome!  What are you looking at,  pistols?
  16. Thank you very much for the kind offer.   I have my fair share stockpiled, I just want to score a box here & there to replace what I use so I do not have to stop shooting.  We managed to get 2 boxes of 500 out of sportsmans not too long ago on top of what I had already, so I am probaby as well off as anyone right now.   But it was awesome of you to offer!     Supposedly hixson academy has some today, if not gone already, 1 per and behind a counter?  I cant get there from here in time...
  17. about that lee disk system:   First, and MOST IMPORTANT:  the data that comes with it is a complete work of fiction.   The weights listed for the given powders in the given holes are usually flat out wrong.   Second, and key to getting anything done:  they disks are linear --- that is, its easy to figure it out.   So, the aggravating but simple way to deal with it is:   1) put in a large disk.  Assemble it all and throw a charge of powder into a case.  Weigh the charge.  Do this 10 times, take an average. 2) compute the desired grains.    So... say you wanted  10 grains.   Your randomly selected disk is "Disk .62" and it throws 8 grains.   Its proportional...   disk ?? = 10 grains and disk .62 = 8 grains.. so  ??/10 = .62/8 therefore you need disk that is closest to .775  I dont have the actual disk sizes and all on hand, its just and example.    While this works, you absolutely MUST weigh the charge thrown when you put it together with your computed disk.   It should be very close to your desired value.   It is also addative.   So if you need .775 but the disks you have are .5 and .25 using the double disk, those add to .75 for example which is "close to optimal".  So you stack those 2 disks together, for example.     Let me know if that does not make sense.      Also, you can throw a charge twice instead of double disking for most rifles.   The biggest disk is a fine charge for my 223 but anything bigger than 223 I have to hit it twice.    If you cannot concentrate enough to do this, DON'T.   I only make a few rounds of bigger stuff here and there and in small batches, so I find that I can do it safely by concentrating on the task at hand fully.  If you go this route be very, very careful not to triple up.

    Kimber .380

It looks exactly like the sig.  Probably costs more, though it would be a tossup, both brands are "proud" of their stuff.
  19.   Probably.   Bullet buttons are supposed to prevent rapid mag changes, and were allowed to get around the ban / rules in CA.   Because they allowed people to retain their guns, they would have to be made illegal under the new law, of course....  because the goal is total disarming of the people.     Yes, I suspect the good liberals would LOVE It if our ARs had a 5 round box mag that you loaded by opening the chamber and shoving them in one by one like a bolt action.
  20. There were some antiques that had 3, british design I think?   for example http://www.gunsinternational.com/-4798-Ward-Sons-triple-barreled-shotgun-rifle.cfm?gun_id=100068251   kinda interesting to bring that back, but why bother, if you need 3+ get a semi/pump etc, its gonna be heavy with 3 barrels...
  21. Most of what you hear about is getting stranded in your car without food & water for a day or 2.   Assuming you have a carry gun anyway, I would keep it small & light with ...   first aid kit, one of the better "glove compartment" types.  skin bonding superglue, because most first aid kits do not have it and I would much, much, much rather glue up a serious cut than try my hand at stitches.  It works great. food and water. a box of ammo for your carry gun. an old cell phone that can be used to call 911 and a car power charger/supply for it.  It does not need a working contract, all phones can dial 911 as I understand it (?). A tarp.  You can make a tent, or wrap up in it for warmth, or make a raincoat, or many other things. A flashlight and unopened batterys that you replace at least yearly. possibly, a GPS so you can tell 911 where you are exactly. A good book.
  22. something seems different.  I really, really want to see the scene where he shoots the lamp with THAT.
  23. I like the one in your avatarrrrr better.
  24. I agree with this 100% --- that they will not move out or refuse to grow the plant over the issue --- but they do have considerable pressure on the govt right now, and at the moment, the govt is spineless enough to let them push so.....     BTW I have met a few of the germans at the shooting range.  They LOVE being able to own and fire a weapon for recreation and are impressed with the freedom to do so.   Just like any group of people, they come down to individuals and the few I have talked to were friendly and glad to experience america.
  25. dunno about who you could take it to but you might be able to find a part for it and put it in, if you are certain that you can ID the broken part and such.    The stop probably can be pushed down against a spring.  Its possible (if you have not taken it down that far) that all you need is a spring .....   So I would take it down & see if you can determine the issue yourself if at all possible.  If not, good luck with it, I am sure someone out that way can do the work, just can be hard to find a skilled smith in  some areas.
