  1. very nice. Only gripe I had with the minis was the mag system, they just do not swap out fast & easy. That is a great looking result, couldnt ask for much more (maybe a scope, but thats about it).
  2. Looks like an AR to me. Lets see... standard barrel, plastic stock, check. Standard mag, check. Standard caliber and action, check. The chrome firing pin is $5 extra, I guess. The polymer is surfaced hardened? That may do it, if somone would care to explain how that works? Same for the stress relief, what is that and how much is it worth? It has a gas tube. So all I am getting here is the ultra hardened plastic and the stress relief, are those worth $300-400?

    what is the deal

Several things work against you. First, people today are all in a hurry, or a lot of them are. I am very guilty of that, I would never hit someone in the store by going down the middle but I do go around slowpokes and move very fast and expect people to at least get out of the way. I do not like stores and spending more than 10 min in one is 10 min too long. Second, when a stranger speaks to you, put one hand on your gun and the other on your wallet. Unfortunately, 7 or 8 out of 10 of them are about to ask for money or something. A very small % of those who speak are getting close to attack/rob/something as well. People are very wary of strangers that approach. Finally, people are not even paying attention. 2/3 of the people in a store are on a phone, wrangling kids, concentrating on getting their stuff, and so on. They are aware of you, as an obstacle, but not as a person. Most people are not trying to be rude to you. A few are, but most are just rude as a side effect of the above sorts of things, not by any intent. There is no excuse for the guy walking into you --- you should be more careful of that and not allow people to get that close next time. Instead, let them walk into your cart.
  4. They lost their FFLs and several key designer/smiths in the drama caused by the show, as I understand it, and a lot of the company was sold off, a small part of it keeping the RJ name to keep the TV stuff and overpriced "custom" shop going while the main branch was sold (???). This is probably a little garbled since I do not follow them nor watch tv, so its just what I picked up from people that DO watch the show and keep up, but their company has had some chaos and confusion in the past couple of years --- I would do some homework before buying anything pricy of theirs.
  5. you can get a fairly cheap camera that will wireless broadcast the stream to a PC to record. Might be useful if you had a laptop anyway.
  6. the stages are supposed to be doable with a 6 shot revolver as a minimum. Someone got a little carried away with the stage, and you should protest it if you care...
  7. get 1 pound of another powder, one a little less hot, make a light load, and use them up with that. Should make a fine load if you take it easy with the powder to make up for it.
  8. I would stay away from red jacket. Some of their stuff may be neat or OK, but I do not trust them at all. I would vote for the nighthawk or HK, but not sure which I would personally prefer without a lot of research.
  9. Its happened before, it will happen again... I would say turn him over to the afgans for their justice, and the next guy may think twice about doing this sort of thing.
  10. It is a fine pistol, and a good starting point. If you have around $1000+ to spend, wait and look at many options. If you have $750 or less, you will be hard pressed to do any better (apart from cosmetics).
  11. Only identicals I have are because the wife wanted her own, so 10-22 is duplicated, sig 238 is duped, fullsize 1911s are sorta duped (different brands but same thing). I have enough guns that if my carry gun were broken, I could use a different gun easily. I see no reason to have exact copies of a gun, or even very similar ones -- the important thing is you have *something* you can use as a backup, and that you are familiar with it.
  12. Its a great idea. I was thinking something like a 2 barrel revolver, fire bottom and top cylinders in sync. Double tap em with one pull. Its sort of goofy in this setup, but the general idea has a couple of useful applications, whether the double tap idea or the alternate barrel idea for a full auto gun, or just to poke twice as much ammo into a gun in a different way. Needs work, and not sure 1911 frame is the way to go, but there is a kernel of an idea here. Edit, I turned adplayer on to see it. It should only have 1 trigger, so this is either a joke or a prototype. Probably a joke, there was something like it on the web last year. Edit 2: Its not that hard to make the bullets not hit each other. Its not a target gun anyway, just make both of them straight and with some seperation in space, or angle the barrels apart a few nanometers. If the 2 rounds hit within a handspan at 10 yards, it is good enough. You want tricky, look at the early efforts to put a gun on a plane without capping the propellers.

    Beretta Nano

I have to stop trusting beretta and vendors. It was described as a striker fired, sigh. Perfect in every other way, but you need a crowbar to pull the trigger.
  14. A variation of a 1911, probably a 9mm compact variety. But I would really like to have 2, a 22 target pistol as well, just to save $$. If I had to pick one I already had, it wouldnt happen. I have at least 5 that I will not part with under any circumstances.
  15. Your home? No. Your car? Absolutely, its been done, is done, regularly. Evidence that can easily be destroyed or transported has long been searchable by the police. I happen to agree with it as far as the car goes, for physical evidence. There is nothing they can see or do on your phone, however. They can get a warrant & examine the call records. A phone should operate under the same rules as a laptop --- whatever those rules are --- and probably should require the warrant under most circumstances.
  16. A brand new H&R handi rifle is like $275 or so, or was the last time I priced one before going in another direction. Burris makes a good scope; most of their models are about $200 or more new (a couple of $100 and $150 models exist, however). So you are looking at a package that would probably cost $350 or more NEW, pre tax and pre fees. It could be as much as a $450 package. So the price, at the worst, is probably reasonable.... if its in like new condition..
  17. You might try a "lewis lead remover" which is some sort of hard rubber tool designed to take the lead out. Several folks swear that it is really, really good --- I was going to get one but so far, I have not had enough leading issues to justify a tool for it. I have shot my ruger p89 or whatever the number is with cast bullets and zero problems. That gun is one of the least picky about ammo that I have *ever* shot, and yours and mine are virtually the same gun. This one I have also shot 115 grain 9mm lead as well as the 380s. I would almost bet money that unless you try to make a stout, hot load, your first try will be a success with that gun.
  18. 243 is a nice caliber. It is versatile, good for a variety of game in a variety of sizes. It is, I think, a necked down 308 (but I am not sure if you can resize the brass to work??), though a bit less powerful than the 308 in terms of momentum/recoil. A good round for shooters who do not want a harsh recoil, young shooters, etc. Very, very popular caliber and a good choice as its one of the ones you can always find ammo for, and a variety of ammo not the 1 box take it or leave it supply that you find on a shelf for more exotic calibers. The cartridge is capable of great accuracy and good range in a solid gun. A very solid choice for deer, or say 500 yard shooting. You can't go wrong with owning a gun in the 5 or 6 most common calibers, and this is one. I cannot really comment on any modern guns, my 243s are old, a 700 and a finnbear.
  19. I think I have found the problem! The intent to go armed is not a crime: it is a right granted by the 2nd. That makes these laws a violation. The problem, then, is not the school or other voting facility, its the illegal law!
  20. I have not seen any of this surplus powder anywhere... and shipping fees jack the price up a fair amount. Anyone know a place around chattanooga with it? I have been using 2230, and it has served me well, the loads have been dead on all the way out to 200 yards, which isnt much but its all I ask for from a 223. I use the hornady 55 grain slugs, and will for the next year or 3 since I found 7k of them for cheap.
  21. I actually use hard-cast 380s in my 9mm (90 grain). Soft lead is a no-no in a poly rifled barrel (mostly glocks) but you can use harder lead in those. Hardness of 12-14+ should be OK, roughly. Just check your load data, you will notice that the powder is always slightly different between lead and jacketed (you always use just a little bit less powder for the same weight bullet for lead! typically about 3% less for 9mm loads). After that, check your barrel after every magazine for lead. If it is not happening, you did it right. If you are getting leading, you will have to tinker with the load or powder until that clears up.
  22. Ah, the bailout. I am sure if they had worked just a little harder, they could have found a way to acronym it to TARD instead. WB is out to make money for WB, or was (I am 100% ok with this!). I personally think he has seen the light at the end of the tunnel, realized that billions does not stop old age or even slow it down. Not sure *what* he is up to right now, but I think he is out for something new, perhaps merely increased political influence or just wanting some camera time, or gaming the system in a new way by being buddy buddy with the liberals, I have no idea. But I get the feeling he is looking for some new form of entertainment. Hard to say, but he has been rather erratic the last couple of years.
  23. trade you a ghetto "rec center" where they honest to goodness had a sign that said "keep your pants up" and another "no hat's allowed" (yes, thats right, the hat owned something apparently --- the sign had a major typo to help edumacate the kids) for your no-carry school. Of course, I don't think you can carry at the "rec center" either, so its not much of a trade they use whatever public buildings are available, with decent parking and access, no matter what the building is for. Some are schools. Some are churches that allow it because they are nice. You get what they have available. The root of the problem is not that you had to use a school, but that the school has the no carry nonsense rule.
  24. kroil might unfreeze the shotgun. Its good stuff.
  25. my bad, I thought the uniflow was a volume based tool. I know he was asking about buying electronic, my point was, he may or may not need it.
