  1. Something similar already happened to Roman empire Byzantine empire Persian empire Ottoman empire Imperial China Russian empire Third Reich (Germany) Soviet Union Yugoslavia Finances and market are secondary to production, because you can not eat money When existent way of governing of production makes production unprofitable the way of governing changes. It literally means the change of government. It usually comes with fallout of an empire and elimination of central power which is expensive and inefficient. Small states are easy to manage. Small government has less room for corruption. The trouble is the people who hold the power never surrender it. Good thing about XXI century: Information technology makes most of the branches of the government unnecessary Bad thing about XXI century: Complexity of manufacturing makes world wide cooperation essential for prosperity Industrial society can not live with barter economy. Attempt to do so will throw any country to the level of XVII - XVIII century
  2. I was originally trained with Czech optical simulator and break barrel air guns. I believe that I've got unnatural habits due to the lack of recoil of the optical simulator. It is valuable for tactical simulation, when you can not use real gun. It makes your reaction time shorter. I do not feel that it improved my accuracy Speaking of fun, I think it is worth $220
  3. Hello All, I need to dig several tranches on my yard. I would rather pay reasonable price to some of you guys. I have extremely bad experience with the equipment rent from local Home Depot. I am in East Knoxville
  4. Glock 17 has Tenifer finish while Beretta has Bruniton finish Tenifer means nitrocarburized diffision into the steel. Bruniton is baked on finish. Glock internals are better protected from water splashes and sweet coming from your body All it means that Glock would survive longer in harsh environment Glock has fewer moving parts which means superior reliability.
  5. Rare foreign language is more flexible than code words. Because you can not predict when and how you will need to counter attack. Transition to particular language is an alert by itself My girlfriend learned some Ukrainian. The language is so rare and difficult that nobody would understand. Just do not use French. It is already used by ethnic gangs originated from Caribbean islands.
  6. I recently loaded 1000 ACP rounds for my friend. I shoot about 200 of them from his XD. I do not recall any failures The load: Winchester large pistol primer 8.5 grains of Alliant Unique Rainier 185 gr flat nose bullet Overall length 32.4 mm
  7. A mosque is meant to be a temple, a place of pray and place of peace. It should not offend civilised people of XXI century regardless of their beliefs. Koran and especially Hadith were written in violent language. It is responsibility of Imam (prayer) to accommodate the teaching of Mohammed to nowadays society. If the prayer takes the route of Omar mullah, such practice violates the law of our land. And then the mosque should be taken from the followers as a place of conspiracy and the leaders should be prosecuted according to the law. Acting in advance by revoking construction permit is the way of bureaucrats and cowards.
  8. I can suggest a simple test Load the gun with 1 round Keep it as weak as you can (it is safe with 1 round) and fire If the slide goes on the slide stop your problem is related to the cartridge geometry If not, it is related to the powder charge (I assume you do not have occasional media particles in your primer pockets)
  9. I need to build concrete slab foundation for a garage. Any contractors you would recommend?
  10. Type: Double Action Caliber 7.62x41mm SP-4 special purpose noiseless cartridge Overall length 170 mm Weight loaded 850 g Magazine capacity 6 rounds The PSS (Pistol Special Self-loading official index 6P28) has been developed for special personnel of the Soviet KGB, as well as for Spetsnaz of the Soviet Army. Adopted circa 1983. It is much more compact and much more silent in action, than 'conventional' silenced pistols like Soviet PB or Chinese T 67. At the present time the PSS is used by most elite Russian anti-terrorist teams. The PSS looks like the conventional blowback pistol, but it has some quite uncommon features. First, it has a two part barrel, with the separate rifled par, which is fixed to the frame, and the breech part with the chamber inside, which is allowed to recoil inside the frame for a short length against its own return spring. This recoiling part increases the weight of the moving parts at the initial stages of recoil, and also is used to slow down the slide on its final stages of movement, to dampen the sound of the slide hitting the stop on the end of the recoil cycle. The slide return spring is housed in the slide, above the barrel. the double action firing mechanism has open hammer and slide-mounted decocker. Sights are of fixed type. Magazine is a single stack and holds six rounds of SP-4 ammunition. SP-4 cartridge: metric designation bullet weight muzzle velocity 7.62x41 9,3 g / 143 grain 200 m/s / 655 fps The bullet resembles old Kalachnikov 7.62 bullet widely used in Asia and Middle East. So nobody exactly know how many bad guys were taken down by operatives armed with PSS Fanny enough, that without suppressor PSS is not "any other weapon".

  12. Ford Focus is build on global Ford platform. Same car as Ford build in Europe. Actually designed by Mazda engineering in Hiroshima. It is exceptionally reliable. Can not say how much American it is. Definitely more than Mexican Fusion. Mustang is stylish and fast. However it is build on outdated RWD platform. It means less efficient and less reliable. Focus should last well over 250 000 miles. Mustang will never make it. With all these considerations, I should admit: I rented Mustang twice and really enjoyed driving
  13. Sam Colt patented his first revolver February 25 1836. It was completely different gun
  14. I use my bicycle as everyday transportation in summer months. It means March to October. It is average 24 miles every day. I definitely feel better than in winter time.
  15. I used a rope wet with the diesel fuel around my tent in Kazachstan. It worked. I also know that none of native Tennessee snakes attacks human. Copperhead does not even protect her eggs
  16. For some reason Saudy Royal army uses Brownings and Berettas.
  17. I had PT-92. It was built better than Beretta, however the frame and slide finish were inferior to Italian counterpart. The anodising on the frame was soft. The slide was not nitrocarburized. It would be fine for XX cantury gun. Now I have better choice
  18. Majority of the scopes for SVD were made in Belarus, not Russia The marking on true Russian scope would be KMZ (KM3 Cyrillic) LOMO (can not type it in my keyboard in Cyrillic) I can highly recommend the scopes made in Kiev (Ukraine) the marking would be Zenith Be aware that Kalinka also sells Yugo and Romanian scopes of questionable quality
  19. It was year 1990. Israeli Jericho 941 was may be the only high capacity high power pistol in mass production. Americans had to do something or loss the leadership in gun design. Smith & Wesson and Winchester made .40 cartridge. It got the energy equal to Israeli .41 Action Express. S&W designed the first pistol for new cartridge 4006 based on full size 4506. The cartridge was intended for rigid large frame guns specially designed to handle high pressure and muzzle energy. Original load was capable for 180 gr at 1200 fps. Design of a new gun is long and costly task. Glock took first shortcut and put .40 S&W into standard Glock 17 frame. Glock 22 was born. Quite a few manufacturers designed dedicated .40 guns. Taurus PT 100, Slovak K 100, H&K USP I do not remember any others. Wast majority of .40 pistols are 9mm on steroids. Due to multiple failures recommended load for .40 was reduced. Now we know it as .40 Small and Weak round with 240 MPa maximum pressure. If you'd like to feel what it was in its days of glory, fill the case full with Norma R-1 powder and put 180gr bullet. Keep overall length < 29mm
  20. 7.63x25 and .30 Mauser worked in my Chinese Tokarev.

    Bought a Draco

You can shoot any AK at Rifle Range road in Knoxville. I like the place more than Coal Creek range
  22. Evolution of the cartridge The good muzzleloader of 1850th had better reliability than Glock or Kalashnikov. Percussion cap always worked and there were no failures to feed or eject. However better rate of fire brought breechloaders to the armies of all European countries. Mid XIX century witnessed many different version of cartridges. They were made of steel, brass and paper in every possible combination. A primer could be located on the bullet, at the button or even on the wall of a cartridge. The most common feature of early cartridges was low reliability. A primer integrated into early cartridges was subject to misfire. An army company with 30 cartridge fed rifles was superior to a company with 30 muzzleloaders. However as an individual weapon breachloader did not match expectations. For this reason majority of revolvers of that time were of “cap and ball†design. They were slow to load, but they shot for granted. What was wrong with primers? A primer reliably ignites when it is smashed between hummer and anvil. In case of percussion cap the nipple served as an anvil and the hummer served as a hummer. Early cartridges did not have stable anvil. Advanced armorers of mid XIX come with idea of rimmed metal case. The outside diameter of a case was smaller than inside diameter of a chamber for easy loading. The base of the shell had a rim with the diameter greater than chamber. The rim prevents the shell from “sinking†into the chamber. How to prevent hot gases from streaming in cartridge to chamber gap? It was absolutely necessary for 2 reasons. Leaking gas means lost of the pressure in the chamber and loss of the muzzle energy. More important such streaming gas is directed toward the face of a shooter. Preventing the gas leakage called obturation. The obturation was achieved by expansive shell. First efficient expansive shell was made from brass by the French gunsmith Casimir Lefaucheux in 1836. However his pinfire ignition system was far from perfect. His shell had never seen mass production. The key point of his invention was thin brass cylinder. The brass is somewhat unique. The brass shell expands from the force of burning gunpowder . It perfectly fits the chamber and forms an efficient gas check. After the shot the brass shrinks a little bit. This “little bit†is enough to extract the spent shell from the chamber. The other bright idea belong to French engineer Flobert. He managed to make a shell with double walled rim by rolling stamped metal caps. He placed priming compound in the rim. The priming compound could be ignited bu smashing the rim. There is common belief that British William Eley invented rimfire ammunition. Some even call rimfire primer “ Eley primerâ€. William Eley established an ammunition company that later produced the best rimfire ammunition, but he did not invent this cartridge. Flobert obtained his pattern as early as 1831, however his cartridge missed the main part. It had no gunpowder. By 1845, this had evolved into the Flobert .22 BB cap. The .22 BB cap was essentially just a percussion cap with a round ball pressed in the front, and a rim to hold it securely in the chamber. Intended for use in an indoor "gallery" target rifle, it relied entirely on the priming compound for propulsion. Velocities were very low, the cartridge was ignored by military. However it was the grandfather of all rimfire cartridges. The next rimfire cartridge was the .22 Short, developed for Smith and Wesson's first revolver, in 1857; it used a longer rimfire case and 260 mg of black powder to fire a conical bullet. A rimfire cartridges are cheap in production and relatively reliable. They were a popular solution for revolvers and early rifles. They can only be used for low powered cartridges. The case has to be soft enough to be deformed by the firing pin, which detonates the priming compound in the rim. It means thin metal on the base of the cartridge. The thin metal can not withstand any significant pressure. In the past, rimfire cartridges from 2.34 mm to .58†were in production. The trend of XIX century was transition to small bore, short barrel and high pressure. The high pressure killed most of rimfire calibers. Only .22 and .17 survived nowadays. The .22 Long Rifle is still the most common cartridge in the world. To be continued

  24. Hello All, Searching through multiple holster at local Gun shows I did not find one that would be convenient for hiking/biking/camping. I had designed some outdoor equipment and I can design a holster. I like to make a prototype of such holster. My choice of fabric is 1000 denier coated nylon AKA Cordura. Who had experience sewing such fabric? What sewing machine can handle 6 layers of Cordura? If anybody is interested in making holsters for outdoor activities, I am open for cooperation. I can provide fabric, webbing and hardware. I need powerful and reliable sewing machine
  25. It all started many many years ago when one smart bureaucrat told his tribesman: You are special people, you deserve better than you have. Let's get what you deserve. The quest was so successful that it changed the human history. The key word here is "special". It is usually the language and national origin, but could be anything. Majority of people try to identify themselves as part of respectful social group: crusaders, alchemists, knights, academy of science, bikers or MIT graduates. To do so you have to have at least some identity. A lot of people don't. Then some charismatic leader can find such identity for you and promise you a bright future based on this identity. Followers do not usually question the ultimate goals of their leader. The name of the fist leader was Moses and he carried holly mission. Other successful leaders mined only their personal goals: Atilla the khan, Karl Marx, Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin), Joseph Jugashvily (Stalin), Benitto Mussolini, Emperor ShÅwa (Hirohito), Adolph Shiklgruber (Hitler). Hitler united the people who spoke German language in the quest for world domination. Such a great purpose justified burning millions of non-Germans in the ovens of Dahau and Buchenvald. Whenever a leader seeks supporters based on their national or ethnic origin, the supporters become Nazi. Nazism in any incarnation brings injustice and violence to the society.
