I guess the 10,000+ deaths per year due to drunk driving is socially acceptable...

Nor are the gun grabbers lining up to see the alcohol makers nor the car mfgrs. No sir, they're only hellbent to sue the gun makers out of existence. 🤬

FYI, the recently passed “Infrastructure”  bill mandates that within this decade all new cars must have built in drunk driver detection.

Wouldn't it be less complicated and costly to the general law abiding public to take the approach that if you get a DUI conviction, you permanently lose your car and drivers license?      Seems like that would be a pretty good deterrent for most folks.     I know it would never fly, but at least it would punish the actual offenders rather than everyone.

Actually, I kinda like that idea. I have about 1000' of frontage on a public road, and every other week I pick up a dozen or so empty beer cans and often an empty liquor bottle. There's a LOT of drinking and driving going on. I spent 25 years as a volunteer fireman / EMT, and the vast majority of the auto accidents that I responded to were alcohol related.

That might get sued out of existence, IMO.

Imagine buying a 10 year old used car & having an emergency or being stuck out in BFE because that sensor failed. That has lawsuit all over it, IMO.

Most 10 year old cars now are nothing but rolling computers.  I personally don’t think this is going anywhere but it’s being thrown up against the wall.
