I find the whole situation comical.

Republicans have long been claiming the media is not fully reporting the details because he's black and now they're griping that the race card is being played against them.

Hey pot, this is kettle.....You're BLACK.

P.S. - +1000 to whomever said that they were amazed we survived the Carter presidency.

Also, a little over 100 years ago that little black kid could have owned his own slaves. Maybe he was related to William Ellison. I'm waiting for your response, Ralph. Here's something for you to listen to as you ponder and type. It ought to inspire your response.

However, it's equally true that there is no provision to PROVE citizenship, or even legal residency. Just as there is no provision to prove same right now when illegal aliens walk into your local hospital's emergency room. That was tried, but struck down both because of practical considerations (many legal citizens couldn't prove it) and legal ones (liberal federal judges).

Whether any better check on legal status of individuals would happen with a "public option" is anybody's guess - but I would guess there would NOT be.

So, in that sense, Wilson's blurted "statement" may well be true in a de facto sense.

I appreciate these reasoned and intelligent comments from a fellow 61 year old.

The problem with requiring proof of citizenship before giving health services is you and I and everyone else would have to provide it when we need care. I'm as exercised about the problem of illegals as anyone here. The places to enforce it are at the border, and by prosecuting people who employ them. My opinion anyway.

Best,

Ralph

In what alternate reality does Socialist = black?

Better question, why do the left consistently and loudly substitute 'black' for 'Socialist'? Answer: Because that way, they get to play the race card. Pretty neat trick. Criticism becomes automatic evidence of racism.

Huh. Just think - last year, dissent was "the highest form of patriotism". This year, it is racism.

Thing is, though, I'm beginning to associate throwing the race card with being a lying hypocrite.

Anyone that thinks illegal aliens won't be covered under Obama care has reality blinders on. Just because the bill prohibits it, without a method of enforcement, means nothing. It is also quite illegal to walk across the border and stay in this country. (Thus the term "illegal alien" for those that need help understanding things like that.) But illegal or not millions do it and are rewarded with government services and amnesty programs.

I think they should be deported, but while they're here it could be somewhat dangerous to the rest of us to deny them healthcare--I understand there's been a resurgence of tuberculosis in recent years, and there are other communicable diseases that could threaten the general population if allowed to gain a foothold in the illegal community.

A lot of people are claiming racism against Obama, Ralph. Obama needn't say it publicly. If you want to know how he feels about racism being alive and well in America, read one of his books, and use Google. I notice that you can't differentiate on who is calling who a moron. I also notice that I said the Obama administration, yet you still insist on insidiously twisting words.

I don't think any rational person believes that there aren't people out there that hate Obama just because he's black. Obviously those people exist. The problem is that any disagreement you may have with his actions or policies is written off to racism. I know there had to be many blacks who hated W, but did we label them as racist and ignore their ideas? I think the left writes us off as racist because it's easier than actually answering the questions we've posed.

Did I dislike Carter because he was white, or because he was a moon-bat?

Since when did liberals find it distasteful to question authority?

You were 6 years old when he took office and 10 when he left.

If you had strong political opinions at 6, I'd say your peer group back then saw YOU as the moonbat!

I was in the heat of running a business and raising a family. I saw Carter's actions gut the TN economy, raise interest rates to ridiculous levels, and kill the local agricultural economy.

At that time I was a Democrat, Carter is what changed that!

True, but my family (all lifelong democrats) couldn't support him. I've seen and read about his presidency. I can even see the moon-battery since he left office.

Would it help if I used Clinton instead?

buk

Ah, okay Buk, I knew it was more of a historical comment; my statement didn't come across as the ironic hoot I meant it as.

Anyway, I agree with you both...Carter was a HUGE disappointment to me, and continues to be.

I fully believe he's as "moral" a prez as America has ever seen, but just goes to show that that doesn't equal effectiveness or wisdom. And now he's proven that age doesn't necessarily increase wisdom either. It's almost like some wacko force has the Vulcan Mind Meld on him.

Senile dementia, is my bet. First signs appeared about a month after he assumed the office.

Obama seems to be more carter than carter was, hows' that for a scary thought? So far employment has been shot through the head, the deficit has gone to warp factor 9, GM was taken from the owners/shareholders and given to the unions, treasury has sunk dozens if not hundreds of banks with 'stress tests' and then given them to their buddies, and looks like obamacare is going to be passed notwithstanding the minor matter of a majority being against it. Taxes are about to take a huge hike; the middle class is going to become an endangered species. Third rate dictators around the world are dancing in the streets and cashing their checks, and our allies are discovering that our committment to freedom is as thin as the line between communism and 'liberalism', and our military has taken second place to funding welfare for the chronically useless.

Question: Assuming Obamas' intent is to destroy the country as an economic, political and military source, what would he be doing differently?

(Don't bother to answer, Ralph, I already know - I'm an ignorant racist.)

What do you most dislike about Carter--his work with Habitat for Humanity?, his work for peace in the Middle-East?, the "CAFE" standards (later removed by Reagan) which would established auto mileage standards and would have reduced our dependence on Arab oil? Give specifics if you want to be taken seriously.

>>>Senile dementia? You're thinking of Reagan, the great deregulating tax-cutter whose legacy is the national debt, the healthcare crisis, and the energy crisis.

Obama seems to be more carter than carter was, hows' that for a scary thought?

>>>Less a thought than a brain-fart.

So far employment has been shot through the head,

>>>The result of the financial collapse (see Reagan, Bush, deregulation, repeal of Glass-Stegall)

the deficit has gone to warp factor 9,

>>>see above.

GM was taken from the owners/shareholders and given to the unions,

>>"given to the unions?"....explain the origin of your misinformation.

Should we have let GM go away? Should we have bailed them out with no prospect of the taxpayers being paid back? That was the Republican model.

treasury has sunk dozens if not hundreds of banks with 'stress tests' and then given them to their buddies,

>>>"given them to their buddies?"

and looks like obamacare is going to be passed notwithstanding the minor matter of a majority being against it.

>>>Actually it looks like it wont be passed despite a majority being in favor of it.

Taxes are about to take a huge hike;

>>>If you make over 250k a year--a "huge hike" all the way back to where they were under Clinton--39%. If you're really concerned about the debt you wouldn't oppose the most logical means of paying it off.

the middle class is going to become an endangered species.

>>>Thanks to Reaganomics and predatory capitalism.

Third rate dictators around the world are dancing in the streets and cashing their checks, and our allies are discovering that our committment to freedom is as thin as the line between communism and 'liberalism', and our military has taken second place to funding welfare for the chronically useless.

>>>You should seek out a program for the factually challenged.

Question: Assuming Obamas' intent is to destroy the country as an economic, political and military source, what would he be doing differently?

>>>He become a tax cutting, corporate tool i.e., a Republican.

(Don't bother to answer, Ralph, I already know - I'm an ignorant racist.)

>>>You're not a racist.

Sorry man....I'm a little shorthanded here.

>>I don't think any rational person believes that there aren't people out there that hate Obama just because he's black. Obviously those people exist. The problem is that any disagreement you may have with his actions or policies is written off to racism. >>

I don't feel that all criticism is race-based by any means....though I've heard some who do--that's an oversimplification, and inaccurate. I know that there are fiscal conservatives who oppose any additional taxes...regardless of the President's race, etc. I do believe there's a lot of disinformation out there regarding Obama, and a lot of unfair criticism from those who believe it.

<<I know there had to be many blacks who hated W, but did we label them as racist and ignore their ideas?>>

I don't know. I do think that there is an assumption by some whites that blacks are racist...that's one reason they fear Obama. While of course true in some instances, I believe it's exaggerated.

<< I think the left writes us off as racist because it's easier than actually answering the questions we've posed. >>

I don't believe that race is the reason for most of the opposition to Obama. But for some it's the main reason. I try to answer questions posed by the other side and don't just say "you're racist....case closed." I do point it out when something seems to have a racial element to it.

<<Did I dislike Carter because he was white, or because he was a moon-bat?>>

What do you mean by "Moonbat?" I voted for Carter but was disappointed by his inability to understand how Washington works.

He was an embarrasement on occasion....much like W. was to some Republicans. I voted for Reagan in '80. In defense of Carter, he has a good heart and has done good work both in the White House and later.

Those 20% interest rates sucked, but OPEC's decision to raise oil prices are in part to blame.

<<Since when did liberals find it distasteful to question authority?>>

That's what we're about. However, not all challenges to authority are based on facts and reason.

Go easy on the Nyquil....hope you're feeling better.

I believe there needs to be some middle ground here. People should provide proof of citizenship to get healthcare, however I realize that there may be occasions where you may not have proof at the moment. In cases of an emergency, I don't think anyone should be turned away. This is just showing human kindness. I mean if someone has a broken leg we shouldn't say "Sorry no ID, we can't fix you up, now run along". But if you need cancer treatment you should bring your ID with you, or if you need antibiotics for a cold, I don't think it unreasonable to require you to go get your ID.

I for one never leave without ID of some sort. I mean really how hard is it to carry a wallet?
