Dude, I thought the whole point of boot camp was to be UN-noticed by being good at what you do?! I've been going about it all wrong!!!

I know what I need, a nice set of dress blues to show them I already know how to put the uniform on!

I want to be the guy that, on graduation day, has the absolute lowest number of screw-ups next to his name, and that the DI's have to ask each other what my name is from lack of yelling it for the afore-mentioned screw-ups. Including showing up in EGA gear--though I might decide to rock my Infidel shirt.

The longer it takes your instructor to learn your name the better you are doing. That goes for any boot camp. ;)

I think the recruiters do this crap on purpose, which actually makes me laugh. I see more and more people ship out wearing the t-shirts they give the DEP'ers with whichever branch logo across the front. So they show up, much to the pleasure of the DI's / TI's, sporting the shirts. Then the fun begins.

Definitely show up in clean, conservative, clothing... well groomed in appearance, with a conservative haircut. You'll be wearing these same clothes for several hours (possibly overnight into the next day) as you in-process, so you do not want to pick something that will paint a bullseye on you.

I've actually witnessed a trainee show up sporting all three things I mentioned above... military branch t-shirt, GI haircut, and huge military tattoo across his arm. Needless to say, it wasn't fun for him during his entire stay there.

Noted. Clean-shaven, jeans, polo shirt, decent haircut . . . all noted for future reference. Kinda figured though, just good to know that's definitely the route to go.

We use to cut cards to see which of us Drill's were coming to pickup at the Reception Station. The rest stayed in th Company AO to wait on the cattle trucks with the Splibs to arrive. I have fond memories of my 24 total first day experiences of picking up recruits.

Oh reception isn't that bad in the ARMY, I wouldn't know about the Marine Corps. My big gripe was lack of sleep and fireguard in my basic training unit we were the 3rd cycle to go through brand new barracks so we did alot of cleaning too. But I went to Relaxin Jackson so I don't have much room to talk.
