The answer to that seems to be no. I think John takes a dim view of it.

I'll be there, G-d willing. I went and practiced yesterday just so I wouldnt look like a fool in front of you all.

And the 636 is a 5-shot if I recall correctly. You can certainly use one, but you'll be at a huge disadvantage because the stages generally go in 6 shot increments.

im off, ill try and make it. I joined the nra... i havent joined idpa hopefully i can still shoot.

IDPA rules state that you can shoot one match without being an IDPA member. After that you are supposed to join. We aren't counting the "introductory" shoot as an IDPA shoot so you guys should be good to go for the 13th.

A few tips for those who may be coming to VPC for the IDPA shoot Sunday the 13th:

1) don't try to go fast, that usually will slow you down. Try for smooth, smooth is fast.

2) when wearing a cover garment be careful when holstering your gun that you don't stuff a bunch of cloth into your holster along with the gun. This is really easy to do and can cause the gun to fall out of the holster resulting in a DQ.

3) when drawing from the holster while wearing a cover garment be carefull not to grab a handful of cloth along with the gun. This can also cause the gun to end up on the ground resulting in a DQ.

4) slow down and get good hits on target. In real life as well as competition only hits count. You can't miss fast enough to win.

5) practice your reloads. At the 5th Sunday shoot I noticed several people having trouble with reloads, mostly not getting the magazine seated all the way.

6) ask questions. That's how you learn things. All the guys at VPC will be glad to answer any questions you have.

7) have fun. IDPA is a great way to practice self-defense shooting skills but you won't do it if it isn't fun so enjoy yourself.

Thanks for the Info wheelgunner, you and rabbi have hooked a bunch of us!!!

So far my plans look good to be there as well.

Just to double check we need to be there by 1:00?

I'm in. I might shoot a 1911 this time, just for funsies. (Plus Dunndw loves to drool all over my Kimber!)

Directions are pretty easy. I-40 heading east out of Nashville. Exit at Alexandria exit, turn right. Drive a few miles, look for white sign for Gunsmith on left. Turn left at this sign. Gunsmith will be on your right just down the road a bit, turn right into lot, follow gravel road down to the range.

Cost for non-Volunteer Pistol Club members is $15.00. If you are an NRA and/or IDPA member, bring your member # -it gets recorded on your entry.

100 rounds should do you. Bring at least 2 extra mags/speedloaders. Eyes/ears, cover garment. If you use hi-cap mags, you can only load 10+1. A cap is good too, especially if its sunny. Bring water/juice and a snack. You burn a few calories running the stages and talking guns with 20 guys. (There is NO gas station or store at the exit or beyond -you are in the middle of nowhere, so gas-up and get your road snacks before you get on the interstate.)

See y'all there.

Don't guess I'm gonna make this one, you all have fun.....I have a date with a seriously hot chick (way, way, way out of my leauge) and being as dates have been few and far between lately ( ok the past few years)...... hopefully it will be worth missing the shoot but if my usual luck prevails I'm gonna be wishing I was shooting instead.

As Len said, it's not hard to find. Exit 254 off I-40, turn south toward Alexandria go approx. 4 miles, Brush Creek Rd crosses the highway there. Just before you get to the railroad tracks, turn left on Brush Creek Rd and go 4/10 of a mile. You'll see JMR Gunsmithing on the right , a small white block building. Follow the gravel road beside the building , thru the cedar thicket and under the power lines. When you can't go any farther you're there.

Shooter's meeting is at 1:00. If you haven't shot with us before you will need to fill out a waiver as well as get your score sheets and give Alyce your money. It's better if you get there a little early though we will try to work with you if you just can't get there any sooner.

Besides, getting there early just gives you time to talk with the other shooters which is half the fun.
