Im roundin up parts to put another AR together (...300 ACC...). I've priced bolt carriers and they run from "mild to wild". Do i really care if i have a "super-duper" bolt carrier? I think the last one i bought was a simple, humble, military type staked carbon steel bolt carrier for about $50. Whaadda ya think?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen bolts break before but never seen a bolt carrier break or malfunction due to the carrier. I have seen a lot of pricey carriers though... not sure what they do except look cool and give the owner the ability to brag he paid twice as much for a carrier that functions just as good as mine.

As long as the BCG is shot peened, properly staked, and MPI tested then I don't care much otherwise. Finding a quality BCG will put you in the $115-150 range depending on brand.

for most the carrier does not make a difference. some the higher $ have very nice finishes that are very easy to clean and self lubricating.

if you are trying to shoot flys at 200 then a heavier for a longer lock time.

if you building a gun for racing with fast cycling and lower recoil then a light weight bolt, like a JP LMOS
