What's the rule on city festivals?

Recommended Posts

What is the rule when a city has a festival of some sort and cordons off a section of town and has a no weapons policy inside the festival area? I have been attending a festival for several years and always had my pocket pistol as I never saw any signs or notations on the ticket. Today while looking at their website I noticed a stern declaration that no weapons are allowed. Any other time, it is perfectly legal to carry in the area of the festival but because of the event it is now "no weapons allowed." Just wondering about the legal process of temporarily restricting weapons in a several block area of a town.

They do this in my town at events too. Doesn't bother me not carrying. I'm usually having beers anyway, but if I wasn't there are still dozens of cops there. It's one of the few times I have an expectation that LEOs offer protection and deterrence.

Watch showing knife clip, too. Reports here and there of them being confiscated also.

They better give me a receipt for my pocket knife... Because sub 4 inch blades aren't weapons under state law, and the police have no right to take personal property without cause.

Everybody says that.

And yet all knives can be banned with a simple sign. Or sign and a search, like the Knoxville City County Building. If you want in, you give up your "non weapon" knife or come back later without it.

I don't know of a definition for "weapon" in TCA?
