Speedometer cluster repair in the MidState??

Recommended Posts

I need to find someone that can rebuild a speedometer cluster from a 2005 Suburban. I know there are plenty of places I can send it to, but I’m trying to find someone that can do it on Monday (or even today).

Thanks for any help. Edited by DaveTN

I did my own, but I'm tooled up for circuit board work. Good luck finding a local. It doesn't require much time, and the parts are cheap. The vehicle will run without the cluster (at least the Trailblazer will), so you can pull it and send it off if you have to. Needless to say, Mr. Goodwrench will make you their bitch if you take it to them.

I think 2000 Suburbans are the old twist in type?
Either way, It only tkes about 5 minutes to take a cluster apart and solder in a new one.

I can send you a stepper motor for free if you wanna try it yourself. :)

If you're gonna swap a stepper yourself, you need to watch a video on the procedure. If you don't know what masking tape and a fork is for, don't try it.

If you want to get a stepper from Strick, I'll swap it out for you. I have the real rework tools. I don't be using no wick. :)

Mike,

Thanks for that video. My wife was talking with her brother who will be here today and leaving on Thursday. He told her he knew how to take the cluster out and reinstall it if she could find someone to fix it while he was here.

I made her watch that video so she would know removal and replacement is not an issue.
