Whoever invented the small primer 45ACP case....

Recommended Posts

I read in an article, I think in handloader, that spp cases produce smaller sd's than the lpp cases. I have no way of testing it but I have been separating them out for a time when I'm short on lpp's and have a surplus of spp's.

Back when I was loading 45acp I liked the small primer brass since I could use the same primers for my 45acp as I used for 9x19mm and 38spl/357Mag. Since I load on a single stage press it's no big deal to sort them out for loading.
By the way, the Reason behind them is because they only make lead free primer in small right now so for Non-Toxic ammo you need a case that'll take a small pistol primer.

I know the $30. per 100 Federal Champion .45 you can get a Walmart uses small pistol primers, figured it was one of the ways they sell it so cheap.

They'll make your day when you have a couple thousand with seven or eight mixed in and you're flying along

at the press until that one illegitimate case stops you dead. I throw them away, also. One of the brands I've

noticed, with small primers, the case is concave. Don't know what that's about, but they don't decap easily,

either.

It's about like the few .380's I used to pick up when looking for 9's. I just pick up my pistol brass, now.

That's why I go through and toss them. If I had a large quantity, I would probably load them and just keep them seperate.

I already have that problem with Remington 6.8 brass next to Silver State and Hornady. If I had a pile of

Silver State brass set back, I would chuck that Remington crap. That's one tedious chore I don't care to

do.
