Opinions on Ammo storage needed.

I think storing them loose is the way to go.  It saves space and also reduces the amount of air left in the can when you seal it.  This makes it easier to reduce the residual moisture for long term storage:

I keep my ammo in ammo cans, and the cans in an old deep freezer with a hasp and padlock on it.  The old freezer is well insulated and seals tight so I don't have to worry about moisture or temp extrems, and the padlock keeps it out of unwanted hands, and my neighbors don't think I am a gun nut with all the ammo cans stacked...

My first storage method was to use a Hazardous Materials Cabinet I bought in a salvage store.

That worked for a time for small amounts and loose ammo to shoot.

Then ammo cans came along. I'd stack them in a garage corner, but if anyone came by; sometimes they were visible. And in my very liberal neighborhood, that's considered a no-no.

So, after the 2010 floods, I took my old safe and gutted it. Now stacking ammo cans and cases in it. Properly dated of course. Although it is a pain to rotate the new to the bottom of the stack.

Then father-in-law gave me some old navy 20mm shell cans, and I loaded them up. Found quickly I couldn't move them, let along easily pick them up. So I got cheap furniture dollys at Harbor Freight, set the cans on them, and am able to roll them around.
