Remington layoffs

Who knew this would happen? They were told the new regs would not affect them.

They all knew; Remington announced they were consolidating a few facilities to AL a few months ago. I think they were given an option to apply for open position in AL or take a severance package. AAC is also getting moved along with other Freedom Group (now Remington Outdoors I think) facilities.

Oh there's more than that going on, this from May, Bushmaster and Rem 1911  production already moved out of the Ilion plant.

Seems likely they'll do the Beretta thing eventually.

Bloomberg and these NY anti-gun politicians could care less about these employees loosing their jobs and probably hope Remington moves out completly. I'm sure they see the employees as enemies of socialism for working for such an evil company.

“Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer joined Remington officials and plant employees to announce that Bushmaster Firearms is relocating a manufacturing facility from Windham, Maine to Ilion, NY, bringing over forty new jobs to Central New York in the process. Schumer has been a long-time supporter of manufacturing at the Remington plant, urging top Army officials to open up competition for the Army’s small arms contracts to other U.S. manufacturers and domestic producers across the country like the Ilion, New York-based Remington.

All about the money and revenue, jobs are a convenient by product. No guns for Americans but we will see how we can get DoD funds into the hands on my constituents.

Nothing makes me more naseaus thank politicans taking credit for business expansions. Strangely they're never around to take "credit" when businesses downsize, close or any other bad news. Its gross and needs to stop. And our TN senators are among the worst offenders - namely recently taking credit for VW jobs in Chattanooga.

Bushmaster is a Freedom Group company as well, there was an announcement back a few months ago that a few Freedom Group companies were being consolidated.  Apparently executives were sent to many of these plants to make the announcement and answer some general questions about the move.  I see this as a business move with a happy political statement as a byproduct. I wish more gun companies would make these moves out of gun un-friendly states to states that support the gun industry.  To me it does not make sense to support state governments that restrict your product in their state.  Here is a list of all the companies that make up Freedom Group:

REMINGTON
BUSHMASTER
REMINGTON MILITARY
REMINGTON LE
MARLIN FIREARMS
H&R 1871
DAKOTA ARMS
TAPCO
DPMS / Panther Arms
PARKER GUNMAKERS
BARNES BULLETS
ADVANCED ARMAMENT
PARA USA
REMINGTON PMPD
MOUNTAIN KHAKIS
REMINGTON 1816
