Hi All,

Guess what I got for Mother's Day? My very own semi-auto handgun.

I grew up around guns but never really figured I needed to carry one myself until I recently began working in a not-so-good neighborhood. So in order to figure out what I wanted to buy, I researched and asked opinions and read articles and talked about handguns with everyone I could until I became way too confused to make a choice. Then a great deal fell right into my lap, with all the features and requirements I was looking for so now I'm the proud owner of a Smith & Wesson SW9VE, and I LOVE it!!

I've already taken my permit class and sent in the application so now I'm just waiting. I know they tell you to give it 30-90 days for it to arrive, but does anyone know if it will actually take 90 days???? :D

Welcome aboard Dixie G. I'm one of those few ppl waiting myself that Tower mentioned. It'll be 5 weeks tomorrow.:D....Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

I have a SW9VE as well, that I just picked up a couple of months back. Nice little gun IMHO, though some will disagree.

Welcome to the board, there is a lot of good people here. I bought my wife a Glock 26 for Mother's Day and she is also waiting for her permit, and a month has already past since she applied, she can not stand the wait. :D

You know, I wonder if the State prints the permits in batches or something. It seems that some folks get them in 30 days and others get them in 5-6 weeks. Maybe turnaround time depends somewhat on what day of the month you submit everything to them.

This coming Friday, it will have been 4 weeks since I applied, so hopefully I don't have much longer left.

I truly like everything about this gun, but I've definitely been to other forums where it got trashed pretty badly. So far, so good for mine though.

Both my parents own Glocks, she has a G17 and he has a G19, but neither felt comfortable in my hand. I don't know how to explain it, but it wasn't right for me. The G17 seems to be almost identical to the SW9VE strictly based on appearance and features. I still have plenty to learn though so someday I may decide I need something else. But for now, I'm one happy camper.

Im guessing they do it whenever they choose to do it. At their own slow little pace!

Sounds typical of the government. Never in a hurry.

Welcome. I too am waiting for my permit, almost 5 weeks so far. I've joked around about starting a permit waiting support group :D.

My wife got her permit today, it took about five weeks. She thinks she is the stuff . Now when we go some where ( like church ) and there is a gun in the car, I do not have to worry about unloading it, if she has to go somewhere and I do not go with her.
