  1. I believe there were $999 w/ 2 mags.  Extra mags (the ones they took out of the original purchase from century) were $50/ea.   Same dealer had a ton of beat up Mosins and a couple of Suomi's too.
  2. Was nice to see some more surplus stuff getting back into the mix on the tables.  Lots of slings, bayonets, stocks, and mags.  Saw a stack of very new looking russian 30 round ak mags for $25/ea and russian 40 rounders for $30/ea.  Not pre panic pricing I know but not romanian or chinese either.  Picked up a mosin accessory kit for $20 otd.  Found a table selling .223 Wolf 55gr for .28/rd - jumped on two cases.  Most surplus ammo cans were at $10 this time around - picked up another good looking one.   The dealer with the Century PSL's still had two left from the last show.  He's still stealing two of the mags from the deal but the PSL's look nice and they do have the non-pinned breaks if anyone was looking for a PSL.   No beef jerky though
  3.     Just sent in my order last Friday as well - first timer here as well.  Been roaming the web every day reading and watching anything I can find on Garand maintenance, etc.
  4.   Will do - love the one called "Pappaw's Jerky" or something close to that.  That stuff is addictive!
  5. Sent my last two big bags of beef jerky to my brother over in Afghanistan so I need to restock - hope to make it out on Saturday.
  6. Just curious but do you remember their price on the case of 556?
  7. Most of my recent clothing buys have been either Walmart, Sams Club, or Amazon.com.  Wally and sams for the lower end more casual stuff and Amazon for the nicer things.
  8. The staff said earlier in the thread that CMT might be putting together some upper options based on this group buy of lowers but nothing has been promised or set up as of yet. If we do not show interest in it then I'm sure they won't bother. But if we do then it really could open the door to several things depending on what CMT wants to do. I'm not saying that anyone is expecting anything on an upper but we should have the ability to show interest without being chastised by the membership here. Based on what has been said so far in this thread by the staff is that the only things are are for sure out of the question are customized serial numbers and calibers other than .223/5.56. I don't see anything wrong with showing what our interests are and letting CMT be the one that limits what is possible and not possible. Sorry for the rant but this bothered me.
  9.   I don't see what's so hard to do about a matched upper?  I mean it would seem like all they need to do is pull one off the shelf, do a quick Q/A check for fit/etc, serial both of them, then put the logo on both right?  So the logo on the upper might be reaching but the rest isn't so tough right?  Has anyone asked them about a small logo on the uppers?  Like maybe at the top rear of the optics rail where the charging handle clicks in?
  10.   Well, there were several folks selling mosins at $200 but only one older gent had some that were numbers matching, excellent condition, excellent bores.  I ended up picking one up from him.  I believe when they are in stock online currently that they are currently pressing the $160 mark and that's for come as they are random condition.  So figure in $15-20 hand select, shipping costs, and transfer fees and you are in the ball park of a very good condition, non-numbers matching 91/30.  He had also cleaned the cosmo off of these rifles so the only real cleanup I've got left to do is on the bayonet.  Plus he threw in a pack of 15 rounds on original strippers; those are $2 a piece.  Very nice guy from Mt. Juliet who makes some bad ass looking custom knives as well.  Also picked up a gently used ammo can for $10 and a over the shoulder tactical-ish bag for my trip to Knob Creek in the fall.   Overall the show was exactly as described above with many more vendors than patrons so it was very easy to walk around and look at everything.  If you were wanting a PSL but missed the boat one of the vendors there apparently got in on the recent batch from Century and had three for sale at $999 but he did steal two of the mags from the 4 mag deal and was only giving two with the rifle; charging $50 each if you wanted extra.  Saw a couple of nice Makarovs for $350.  Prices overall were coming down but several vendors were still hanging on for those who didn't know better and had money to burn; $800-900 wasr's etc.  Oh, did see a Saiga 12 for $700 too - was tempting but couldn't justify it.
  11.   Way ahead of the curve on that one.  Been stashing stuff away for him since before he was born  :pleased:   Might have to pick up something from the toy vendors though if any show up there today.
  12. Plan on going tomorrow and taking my little guy to his first gun show  :woohoo:
  13. I would be down for a matched upper and lower.
  14. My vote would be a nice milled ak or a mosin pu(sniper model). Or maybe a 23" vepr in x54r - I have one and it is a keeper for sure. Centerfire just dropped their prices on them too. Hard to beat a good rifle in x54r!
  15.   This.  FAL's are pretty much just wrenched/screwed together.  As mentioned you need a receiver wrench, head space gauges, and locking shoulder kit if memory serves.  Youtube can pretty much fill in the rest but they are really easy to put together.  Maybe one notch in difficulty up from an AR.  If you are building up a metric kit then try to find an Imbel receiver.  They are pricey($300-$500 range on gunbroker) but regularly praised as the best.  Failing that DSA probably has the next best option in receivers all things considered.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

I keep seeing references to MOA and accuracy in this thread.  I thought this was about battle rifles and not DMR's?  I love seeing the varying opinions on this - just think its gotten a little bit away from the boundaries of the base question.  Maybe my definition of "battle rifle" is off base.  To me that means stock or very close to stock as issued to a major military force, able to hit minute of man, rugged/reliable, and combat-proven.  What is your all's definition?   This is where the M14 fails in my mind.  It's HEAVY and cumbersome as a battle rifle.  I believe it had its shot in a combat theater and was replaced pretty quickly.  I think the reason its still around after 57 years is that the weapon did find its true calling as a DMR and the military already had thousands of them on hand and couldn't sell them to the public due to NFA laws that were on the books by the time they were being traded out for better battle rifle choices.  They had no choice but to keep them, melt them down, or sell them to other countries who were already more than happy with their HK's, FAL's, and AK's.   To me it really boils down between the '91 and the FAL but my personal experience with the FAL is that they can be very picky on the ammo that they eat.  Also, the mags are an issue; heavier on the FAL and not all are interchangeable depending on the origin of the upper.  Lastly, the optics are an issue with the FAL.  On the '91 you can take an out of the box rifle and clamp down an out of the box HK optic and are ready to go.  On the FAL you would need at least an aftermarket dust cover or similar to mount something.  I know that doesn't seem like a big deal but just trying to think of how much difference that would make to the soldier who couldn't just hop onto the web and order whatever his issue rifle was missing.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

Not to mention the weight difference between them.   Weight of the mags + rifle, ergonomics/controls, (imho) better optics options, and easier modernization via aftermarket parts/accessories is why I put the G3/HK91 at the top on my list.  Not to mention recoil is practically non-existent in this platform.
  18. I use and like Uncle Classic Barber Shop.  Expensive but they do a good job.  I've never heard of sports clips - might have to check them out.
  19. Don't know much about Frontier but would avoid TDS at all costs - their Fiber is really just DSL service once you read into it.
  20.     This is why I keep one of those higher end Gamo's around.  Silly thing can kill just about any small game at close range; especially tomato-stealing squirrels.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

I've owned semi auto versions of all three and I would definitely choose the G3/HK91/CETME.  The M14 would be my 2nd pick with the FAL bringing up the rear.
  22. I read somewhere that the bolt is a little sticky on this rifle.  Have you owners experienced that?
