  1. .308 isn't bad as far as cost of ammo, in fact I'd say that it is cheaper than most anything in its class.  If you start chasing down the cheapest ammo you will drive yourself nuts trying to achieve accuracy.  If your goal is to make noise and send lead in the general direction of your target then cheap ammo is fine.  If you are trying to shoot tight groups anywhere past 50 yards, please buy decent ammo.  If you don't believe me after you buy a rifle get something cheap like Wolf or Monarch then buy some quality ammo, shoot a few 3 or 5 shot groups of each at 100 yards from a rest and see which groups better.     A couple of notes on Mosins.  Yes, they are cheap and the surplus ammo is fairly cheap, though not as cheap as it used to be.  Any other 7.62x54R ammo is not cheap, and you will need it if you are shooting at game or going for accuracy.  A scope can be mounted to a Mosin but there really isn't a great way to do it.  Nothing wrong with a Mosin, 5 years ago they were a great value for what they are, with what they are going for today I would buy something better.
  2. You can always use the trick where you put out a cheapo camera as bait and have another well hidden camera close by to get pictures of the theif, just depends how bad you want to catch them and how much risk you are willing to take.
  3. Very cool Dave S!
  4. I'm in the same boat.  I'm attempting to change positions within the company.  I like the company that I work for but my particular position simply requires more time than I want to give.  Maybe it's because I've had some really good employers in the past, I just don't care for the attitude some employers have where they act like they own employees and don't care of their employees have something else they had rather be doing, like spending time with family.
  5. There are plenty of self centered people out there that would do anything imaginable if they think it will get them ahead a little, we call a lot of them politicians and there are plenty more willing to roll over for a dollar.
  6. With this cold front rolling in I'm really regretting not participating in archery season.  I think anyone that has a half decent spot should see some deer this weekend.
  7. Dead serious, sorry I don't believe everything NBC tells me.   I also don't put it past our government to blatantly lie.
  8. That's what I was wondering, the ATF would need a starting point.
  9. I listened to news radio for a good part of the day today.  At one point I heard a recorded press release from the ATF special agent in charge of the case and she was talking about the shooters firearms being traced, she used this term, "traced" several times, she stated that they had traced some of his firearms and were in the process of tracing others.  I don't know about yall but I'm kind of thinking that the tin foil hatters that said that they believed that the government was using 4473's as a defacto registration may have been right.    I'll give props to the local sheriff up there, he is refusing to release or say the name of the shooter so as to not give him any attention.
  10. I thought that exact thought today.  Some say I'm a crazy conspiracy theorist, I say they are crazy for not taking the conspiracy into consideration.  I've said it once and I'll say it again I don't think what we were told happened at Sandy hook was what actually took place at Sandy Hook.  I'll say the same about several other shootings as well.
  11.   I haven't ridden since I moved back to middle Tennessee.  The bikes are either gone, are for sale, or will be for sale after I finish one that is a project.  Drivers are way worse here than in East Tennessee, not saying that the ones in East Tennessee are good, part of the problem here is that there is more traffic volume.  That issue paired with the fact that I have to travel an hour to find a decent road did it for me.  There is no way I would commute the 8 miles to work, too congested, too many people not paying attention.
  12. They have been off of my list since they posted.  Waffle House is just one of those places that you DON'T visit without a gun.  There are a bunch of weirdos and drunks there so you never know what could happen.
  13. I believe that they already have though I could be mistaken.  Seems it was a hospital or some other medical entity in the Chattanooga area.  I'm not a tobacco user but I fully support someone else's right to use tobacco so long as I'm not inhaling their smoke or getting spit on.
  14. Very frustrating.  If the name of the game were choking we would be national champs.
  15. I saw tons of deer today driving out to the boat after work and from the boat to home.
  16. That's just un American.
  17. Good luck everyone!  I had too much going on this summer to get any archery practice in so I'm sitting out archery season, it just wouldn't be fair to the deer to go out without proper practice.  I will be hunting black powder though and I'm really looking forward to that.  I'm still getting my gun dialed in just the way I want it but I'll be ready before the season starts.  I'll be watching this thread tomorrow at work, hope to see some pictures.
  18. Step 1:  Buy a stripped lower receiver, a mag block, and a rifle kit from Palmetto State Armory (they have one right now for $299) you will also need magazines and an optic or iron sites.  This is EVERYTHING you will need to complete this gun, the only other needed item is ammo. Step 2: After you have all of these items search Youtube for videos about assembling an Ar-15, trust me there are plenty.     Tool wise you will need a punch set, some small  needle nose pliers, Allen wrenches, and a vise.
  19. Looks like a job for zebra print or the Hello Kitty pattern, I'd go with zebra print as the Hello Kitty stuff is outrageously expensive.
  20. Duct tape, you need duct tape.
  21. If I were the buyer in the transaction that you describe I would expect to pay $40 give or take less than I would otherwise expect to pay for that particular gun due to the background check and transfer fee that I would have to pay.  A bill of sale, verification or residency and asking the buyer if they are legally able to posess a firearm (get that in writing if you want) should cover issues that you may encounter.  Then again I'd probably be more willing to go through the transfer process than give a stranger that much personal info.  As a buyer I'd rather not go through any paperwork that I don't have to.
  22. I've switched to NAPA for parts.  I've had too many bad experiences with Advance/Auto Zone/O'reileys. They are still good for air fresheners and seat covers though.
  23. That sucks.  I already have that T-shirt though.  Let me ask you, how many bikes have ridden by you and either waved and not stopped, or not even bothered waving for that matter?  I was stuck on the side of I-81 for about 2 hours last May with a blown out rear tire and literally dozens of bikes passed me and not a single one stopped to offer help.  I think  it was even more insulting when they waved and didn't stop.  The "brotherhood" ain't what it used to be, used to if you saw a bike stranded, you stopped and helped, period.  My personal opinon is that East Tennessee is a major motorcycle destination and the tourists don't want to interupt their vacation by stopping to help another biker, that and too many self centered A-hole professionals RUBS (rich urban bikers) are out there.
  24. I guess this has been in the works for a while.  I know a guy that took a job with Remington in Alabama several months ago as an engineer.
