Is a transfer of ownership needed?
Danger Rane replied to Steve M.'s topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
To my knowledge, this is not even a thing in TN. If he’s worried about it you guys could come up with a bill of sale as proof that he passed ownership to you. -
I’m transitioning from factory Glocks to the Shadow Systems offerings, which I have found to be superior “clones” thus far. In my opinion Glock is slacking when compared to keeping up with the features of its competitors. The only think they have done to the slide in the last 30 years is some shallow front serrations and a mediocre MOS cut. I’m always carried Glocks, and for what I’ve spent to make them comparable to a shadow systems pistol would cost almost double the MSRP on a shadow systems.

I used to use them in a couple of my issued M4s that had less than ideal upper to lower fitment. It helped some, but not as much as installing a free float rail and a better trigger. Even after those upgrades and shooting 75grn Hornady Match ammo I still couldn’t break into sub MOA at 100m with the M4 until I bumped up from an 4x ACOG to a 3-9x Leopold. When I was younger I thought anything Mil-Spec was the bees knees. But after my time in the military and subsequent time as a Gov contractor in the procurement field, I won’t let anything “Mil-Spec” in my safe…wouldn’t want my good #### to get lazy or catch an STD. On your M&P start with some match ammo of a weight that corresponds with your twist rate. If that doesn’t work throw a free float rail on it. If that doesn’t work throw a better trigger in there. If that doesn’t work throw a decent optic with 6x or better magnification on there. If that doesn’t work it’s probable you. On that note, have someone else shoot it at each of the above mentioned progressive steps to make sure it’s not you. If it’s you take a class.

As long as it makes the bangy thing go bang I don’t care. I have both, though at the moment my striker fired outnumber my hammer fired 2:1, so I guess my preference swings that way.
-
Are you interested in selling the pistol without the optic? If so what would your price be?

- People who don’t use turn signals. - People who think anybody cares that you don’t like Glock, sig, Taurus, tactical leverguns, etc…If someone specifically asks your opinion than freely give it. If they say, I really like my (insert whatever) and somebody comes out of left field to say, “well the grip angle”, or “that Tupperware gun won’t last”, or “back in my day” you are immediately getting tuned out. It would be like you marrying a blonde with big tits, and instead of me being happy for you that you have found what makes you happy I say, “well she’d be a lot better if she was a brunette with a big ass”. It’s weird, and rude. - Gun guys that open carry into awkward places for the sole purpose of making people uncomfortable or to troll for a reaction, while crying “because I can”. - People who don’t put up their shopping carts. - People who call 911 for an ambulance ride to the hospital (for some non emergency BS) because they think it gets them to the front of the line at the ER. Typically people that aren’t paying for their own healthcare, thereby jacking up the cost of it for everyone else. - People who use abortion as a form of birth control.

Kind of piggy backing onto what Hozzie said, if you don’t own any saws at all and are only buying one at the moment then a good skill saw (some places call it a circular saw) would be my first purchase. I have the sliding version of the Dewalt compound miter saw that you linked, and I love it. I’ve only ever used the compound bevel for trim, mainly crown. I’ve redone 3 decks so far this year, and I honestly use my Dewalt Skill Saw more than anything else. I use the miter saw for most angle cuts, but most cuts in deck work are straight cuts on deck boards and joist boards, and for those it’s much more efficient to do it with the skill saw using a carpenters square as a guide. It gets time consuming climbing down or walking over to your miter saw location for each cut on a deck board. Depending on the deck size, you can sometimes attach all your boards, chalk a line and use the skill saw to perfectly cut your hangover, which is the only way I’ve found to make them perfectly match. If you do go with a full blown miter saw look into the sliding model and definitely get a good stand. Also, once you burn through the first blade for any of your saws look into the Diablo blades (red). I like everything about the Dewalt blades except the price, the Diablos are usually cheaper and as good if not better.

I have the G48 and my Dad has the 43x, we both like them quite a bit. He’s running OEM mags due to where he lives, and I’m running the Shield Arms mags with their mag release. We both switched out the sights to Night Fision sights. He’s using a leather holster for his and I’ve got a kydex holster from Tulster. No issues thus far.

Not today new guy, nice try though.

Thanks for the info David. I agree that the hours and price will probably dissuade the occasional shooter, which could be good or bad. I long ago stopped going on the weekends, as it seemed like they didn’t have enough staff to keep up with the crowd. I never saw anyone being intentionally unsafe or negligent, but there was way to much flagging and such up and down the line for my comfort. I always prefer going on a weekday morning when it’s just the old diehards out there. I do think it’s a good thing that he is letting the 12month year start whenever you pay, as I know several people that were wanting to sign up mid year that didn’t because he wouldn’t roll the year or prorate.

I agree with Chucktshoes, that’s a low budget for entry into the NVG game. I have looked through a couple sub $1k offerings and honestly they were worse than what our military was using back in the 90s. If you’ve never used any you might not know the difference, but then you’d be pissed when you had a chance to see what another $1k could have gotten you. Not saying this to discourage you, just wanting to save you some frustration. It’s not like the difference between a $1k rifle and a $2k rifle. You can shoot and enjoy both of those from day one. It’s more like the difference between putting on a pair of sun glasses that sat at the bottom of a river all year and a pair you just bought at the store. -
For about 15 years I’ve been storing my ammo in 50 cal cans with the rubber gasket. Ive weeded out all the plastic containers and any containers with a foam gasket. I keep https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1022530137?pid=465276 one of these desiccant packs in each ammo can. All my ammo cans are stored on a shelf unit in my garage. It’s not exactly climate controlled. Every 6 months I pull the desiccant packs out and “recharge” them in the oven. Often times they have not turned all the way pink when I recharge them. I had a few Harbor Freight 50 cal cans that weren’t up to snuff and they would not last the whole six months without the desiccant turning pink, so I got rid of them. Some of these cans I get into a couple times a month, some not at all in 6 months. I figure some moisture naturally occurs in the cans due to the bipolar temperatures changes we have here in TN, which is why I use a larger desiccant pack than needed for that size. I have been pretty meticulous with this, as I am admittedly OCD about my ammo storage/inventory etc… I have seen similar situations like what 1gewehr described above, and been completely mystified about how the ammo can stay good in horrible conditions like that. Also noteworthy, at Fort Lewis in the mid 2000’s we were being issued green tip ammo dated from the Vietnam era, and it was shooting just fine. Down range we would get brand new stuff of course, but for range use we were still burning through the old inventory. I got to take a tour of the base AHA (Ammo Holding Area) one time, and man was that a site to behold. Several warehouse type buildings with pallets of ammo as far as the eye could see. Oh and that Vietnam ammo was just stored in ammo cans, no desiccant. And the warehouse it had sat in all those years wasn’t really climate controlled, just reasonably dry.

I only have about 500 rounds through mine, mainly because ammo is expensive as you noted, and it was hard to find for awhile so I wasn’t wanting to blow my whole wad. I just looked at my round count notes and I have had 11 malfunctions from mine, which is in its original configuration. I’m not sure how I missed the memo about the 40grn ammo being preferred… just hearing that for the first time here, but according to my notes at least 8 of those malfunctions were shooting other than 40grn. I can also see how the rim overlap in the magazine could easily happen. I have really enjoyed mine so far, shoots accurately and is light enough to throw in a camelback when hiking.

Somehow my unvaccinated immune system is having an identical experience to yours. I’m on my 5th day of mild symptoms and can’t wait to get back to work. Glad to hear that you are fairing well, Happy New Year!

Is there no such thing as an affordable lever action anymore?
Danger Rane replied to bobsguns's topic in Long Guns
I think you hit the nail on the head with this Spots. I’m 41 myself, and as you described I started expanding my firearms pallete a bit once I hit my 30s and had a bit of fun money to throw around. The best thing about the modern day firearms industry is that there is literally something for every taste, and some of the manufacturers are blending old with new, as noted in several of the new lever gun offerings, which has broadened interest for some of the “old timer” guns. Not sure how many of you are on instagram or watch firearms channels on YouTube, but I’ve been seeing almost as many leverguns as anything else lately. -
Damn. Hate to see this. Glad to hear he and the family got out ok. From what I’ve read so far about that fire, the wind was pushing it faster than they could get fire breaks in place to stop it or slow it down. Our prayers are with your brother and those effected.

I was fortunate enough to track down a Marlin Dark 45/70 late last year, after looking for one ever since they released them in 2019. The last two times I’ve taken it to the range I’ve had guys offer more than double what I paid for it. Henry also released a dark line, though I don’t like the look and feel of it quite as much. I’ve been watching several YouTube videos this week about the Ruger/Marlin SBL 45/70s that are already in the hands of the community influencers and it sounds like they are pretty nice. I’ve always had a think for the Chiappas as well, but they are REALLY proud of them.

I’m stuck at home with COVID as we speak. Myself and two coworkers all came down with it on Monday, presumably due to several recent exposures at work. There have been an uptick of cases that we’ve been transporting to the hospital, almost all vaccinated but elderly or with obvious comorbidities. Of the three of us one is vaccinated and boostered, his only symptom is loss of taste and smell. His wife (also vaccinated and boosted) came down with it yesterday and she is not having as smooth a go as he is. I think she got the infusion therapy today. Myself and the other guy are unvaccinated and having very mild symptoms. I honestly would have thought it a head cold if the other guys hadn’t got it too. So far OTC cold meds are keeping me normal but certainly going stir crazy. CDC changed their quarantine from 10-5 days, so if I’m not feeling any worse by Saturday I get to go back to work. The best thing ANY of us can do going forward is take some steps (big or small) to improve your personal health situation. Regardless of your age or situation, it’s not too late to make some tweaks in your day to day life that will literally pay dividends toward the quality of time you have left. A Doctor once told me (while encouraging me to loose weight) that once we reach 50, we have the body we deserve. From my observations I’d say he was spot on. The majority of medical patients that I personally interact with are 60 and over, and there is a HUGE spectrum of quality of life at that age. We will all pass on some day, there’s no cheating that, but we do have some say in the quality of the days leading up to that.

Shield Arms S15 mags??
Danger Rane replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have two of them for my G48. No reliability issues at all thus far (300ish rounds). I am waiting on a mag release to come in. Was back ordered around Black Friday but should be here any day. I have noticed that the OEM plastic one is getting chewed up by the metal mag, which is exactly why they recommend switching them out to the metal version. The first few times loading the mags it was REALLY tight getting the 15th round in. It’s gotten a little easier but it is still tighter than most mags I load. The first time loading the mag it was even a challenge to get the full mag inserted and seated with the slide forward. After the first 100 rounds or so that was no longer a problem. At this point I have as much confidence in them as anything else. I will eventually get a few more, maybe if they ever go on sale. They have called the G48/43x the G19 killer. I’d say these S15 mags are the nails in the coffin.
