  1. I live in Bellevue. I'm about as far west as you can get and still be in Davidson County. Its worth the drive for me to Greenbrier to visit Guns and Leather. Guns For America is in the 100 Oaks area and seems to be a good place. Bellevue is about the midway point between Nashville and Dickson. The bad part is you are still in Davidson County and get to pay for the new convention center, stadium, arena, etc. through your property taxes. There are nice neighborhoods in west Davidson county where you don't have all the 'big city' problems.
  2. Spoil them when you can -- I'll never forget the times I spent with my grandpa. The time spent with him was worth more than anything else. Memories last forever. Sorry to hear they are moving.
  3. I should be able to make this one as well. I am also planning on bringing a friend that's not a gun owner yet. So be on your best behavior!
  4. Please have mine delivered by a female in the future.
  5. This is all AFAIK: if it has the finger grooves, its a Gen 3. If it doesn't, it's most likely a Gen 2.

    1911 advice

I've got a SA Loaded Commander. Very nice pistol for the money. I wouldn't trade my Nighthawk for it, but it cost a fair bit more! I'm a fan of the Commander for carry. It's still big but I manage to lug it around pretty well. The shorter barrel 1911's have a reputation for being a little more finicky that their big brothers. That said, I've had no trouble from my SA. I have had a couple of FTF, all in the first 150 rounds through the gun. Since then, no problems at all. If you are going to carry it, I'd recommend the Commander. If its a range only gun, get the full size.
  8. I stopped in there once just to look around. If you're into high-end shotguns, Game Fair is your place. When I say high-end, I mean they had smoked poles all the way into the $30k range.
  9. I hope you are right but that's the first I have heard of it. I'll try to do some investigation later this week.
  10. My company's HR literature says no weapons unless you have permission from one of the owners. My boss is one of the owners and he has a HCP. The other owner has been out shooting with me. Whenever I've picked up a new gun on my lunch break, they always want me to bring it in and show it off when I get back. BIG difference from my former employer - who would call in the national guard if you said the word 'gun'. Of course, they were HQ'd in Boston...
  11. PLEASE stop trying to compare what happened in NC with TN. The state's laws are very different. Open carrying in NC is legal. In TN, carrying a handgun is against the law. A HCP only gives you a defense against that crime. So, in TN, if you are carrying a firearm and a LEO asks for your permit, you are requred to show it. Otherwise, you are subject to arrest. That is not the case in NC.
  12. Smith & Wesson? I know of several people at my church who carry. My wife laughs at me for playing "spot the gun" at church every Sunday.
  13. You should considering what you paid for it! Glad it's got a good home...
  14. My better half bought me handguns for my last birthday and last Christmas. Yep, better than I deserve.
  15. Dang it, I live in Nashville! Any price breaks on 1 million rounds of 223?
  16. I ran the RC from mid May until the release was available to MSDN subscribers (late August). I've had a great experience with both. There is no way I would go back to Vista. 7 is what Vista should have been.
  17. I just don't follow the logic: "People are breaking the law, so let's pass more laws. That'll fix the problem." How about prosecuting those that broke the law? Seems like a win-win to me. The criminals get dealt with and the rest of us get left alone. I must be low on my liberal today.
  18. You get what you deserve for not making the last G&L TGO shoot... Luckily, your condition is easily cured - go punch some holes in paper!
  19. I have a new toy (from G&L) to break in - if the creek don't rise I'll be there.
  20. I can't even remember my first BB gun... I was young. I got my first 22 at around 8 or 9. A Remington bolt action. I got a Winchester 94 XTR for Christmas when I was 13. We always had guns around the house growing up. All I had to do was ask, and clean them afterwards, to take any of them to the range.
  21. I've been in there on Saturdays before. They are closed on Saturdays with a Nashville or Smyrna gun show. I'll second (or fifth or where-ever we are now) that they are good people. I've bought a few things off of them including the pistol in my pocket as I type this.
  22. The food has always been good there. I've eaten there several times with the wifey and had a few business dinners there. I've eaten at Buca's in Cool Springs, Lousiville, KY and Anaheim, CA and they were all consistently good. The fact that they haven't posted is a plus -- I can still eat there!
  23. I did Electrical Engineering. I spent several years working in the laboratory automation market so I got to work closely with some MEs. I actually shared an office with a ME for a couple of years. Welcome to TGO! This place will definitely feed your gun appetite.
  24. I just gotta ask: what kind of engineering? I spent many a year in engineering school (and grad school for engineering).
