  1. I'll jump in here...I built a 28x40 with 12/12 pitch attic box trusses which gave me a 16x40 room upstairs with 8ft ceiling and 4ft knee walls.  This is great storage and could be turned into an apartment if needed.  These trusses are self-supporting for the span so I don't have any support poles in the way.  I used a 4inch fiber mesh concrete  with wire mesh for the floor and and have no cracks after 12 years.  I had a block foundation that rose 24 inches above the floor and then 8 ft. stud wall construction giving me a 10 ft. ceiling.  I used 3 standard doors on the front and one 12 ft door on the rear for large items.  This also allowed me to "drive-thru" with my boat as opposed to backing in.  The interior walls are finished off with 4x8 sheets dry erase board (White Board) that does not collect dust and is an easy way to write down ideas and measurements.  This also reflects light very well and when it comes time to clean I use a swiffer to wipe down the walls.  Oh yeah, I had the floor poured with a 4 inch drop from back to front.  You don't notice the gradual drop and with the drop and the two feet of concrete foundation at the base of the walls, I can wash a car inside and the water flows out under the garage doors on the front.
  2. I forgot what they cost when I looked at them to begin with, I have a Marlin Lever action already...I guess that is why I don't have one of these yet.  Maybe I will pick one up used.
  3. I have the same questions and will watch this thread for answers.  I have been intrigued by this myself...
  4. I just hope that those are the numbers provided as intel to our enemy in the event "that day" were to ever come.
  5. I have been in the store 5 times over the years.  Three times at the original location and two at the current location.  Each time was not a pleasant experience and required a good amount of time before I decided maybe they were having a bad day and would give them another chance.  My last trip was about 4 years ago and I won't be back.  I have purchased many weapons and a lot of ammo and accessories over the years but but not from them, they will not get my business.  The owner and his wife are simply rude and disrespectful toward customers.  It wasn't so much a personal experience for me as it was seeing how they interacted with other customers while in the store.  It caused me to lose all interest in whatever inventory they had for I could easily get what I wanted elsewhere, and do.
  6. When I was about 20 I gave my Dad a Case Kiowa fixed blade hunting knife in sheath.  I had the blade monogrammed for him.  Years later after Dad died my mother found the knife tucked away unused with a note that said "make sure Scott gets this."  It means a lot.
  7. I grew up hearing my Dad say "the only way I will let go of my guns will be to feed the family".  He's passed now and I have his weapons in the back of the safe.  They periodically get cleaned, admired and returned to the safe.  I have mine for shooting.  It's a personal choice but I would keep them.  Very sorry to hear about your Dad.
  8. After reading the load list the only thing I could think of is...wheels.  Just kidding, you put a lot of thought into it and others have made some good suggestions.  You can lighten the load if needed, but you won't always be able to find it, if needed.
  9. When I was researching generators and trying to decide exactly how I wanted to set up my system, all I heard was "are you looking at generators again?"  "When are you going to make up your mind?"  "Do you think we will ever need that?" etc.  Then I heard her talking to a friend on the phone -- " He's just killing time on the computer looking at generators."  After the first use I heard "Thanks to that power system Scott put in I was able to catch the CMAs when the power went out"  "you should think about getting a system, it is really nice when the power goes out", " I can do anything I need to even if the power is out".  Yeah, I heard a different tune. ;)
  10. How much do you need for it and could you provide a picture?
  11. Got the chance to run my system for about 4 hours a while back.  Power blacked out right as the Country Music Awards were coming on.  My wife had been looking forward to watching that all week.  In about 10 minutes I had my Smarter Tools unit hooked up and running with everything we wanted in the house operating including the TVs.  I was a hero.  The system ran great without a hitch.
  12. Looking to buy an original Gerber LMF with sheath.  Not the LMF II that is currently marketed but the first version from the 80s to mid 90s.
  13. As they say Honda is best, yep I agree.  But my wallet wouldn't support.  I got a Smarter Tools Propane/Gas duel fuel and a healthy supply of propane.  Wired a transfer switch.  I don't plan on putting gas in it unless I have too.  It is a Chonda engine (Chinese engine built on Honda patent design).  6200/7500 Ran it through break in and so far have no complaints.  Also picked up a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 5250/7350 with tri-fuel conversion also only run on propane.  Two is one, one is none concept.  Wouldn't run them day in and day out but are great for short outages (week or less) and emergency needs.  Can't beat fire and coal oil lamps and candles for long term.  Glad to have them.
  14. So how has the heater been working for you?  I too have been trying to decide how to heat my garage/shop 28x40 with a 10 foot ceiling.  A wood stove is not really the answer for my garage is 2 story with a 12/12 pitch and would require way too much stove pipe.  I have been thinking about a propane heater and was curious how yours is doing and about how much fuel it uses.
  15. Unless I have missed a report there has not been any debris recovered that would confirm this plane went down.  An emergency exit door, the plane could still fly.  Bodies recovered does not confirm the plane crashed, especially in the condition they were found in tends to indicate otherwise.  I would really like to see recovery of debris such as wings, fuselage etc. confirmed to be part of the missing plane that would support actual crash.  Just something that would negate the possibility of the plane being stored somewhere still capable of being flown.  The thought of there possibly being two delivery systems out there still exists until which time proof exists that either of these planes are out of commission.
  16. Is it me or does it seem that every high level action/decision being made with regard to Ebola is more conducive to the continued spread of the virus than to the containment and eradication of it?
