1. Timthetoolman and I just did a night time pig stalk. Two were over a rise and couldn't see them but there stood one at the 50 yard mark. I waited until I heard Tim start to squeeze the trigger and I pulled 3 more a fraction of a second later. Needless to say the ol' girl dropped in her tracks with 4 300 blackout bullets in her. She had 3 piglets within a week of being born so we effectively took out 4 hogs so the owner should be happy. Pictures will be posted as soon as we hit civilization.
2. Well I've created another photobucket account with my phone and uploaded the pics but I have searched the account from top to bottom for the photos and can't find them to copy the link. Anyone got any pointers? I'm on an iPhone but don't have enough service to download the app so I'm on the regular page.
3. Dave, we're in Graceville FL. at a camp right now and the trail cams show lots of hogs and even a group of 10 piglets. The property owner has said to kill as many as possible but they seem to be nocturnal right now. The wind has been brutal and seems to be keeping things bedded down. I got my third deer of the trip today. I was standing outside the trailer at camp and something caught my eye. I looked up and a doe hungry buck was strutting across the field. Luckily my rifle was hanging on a post between us so I snatched it up. The buck had gotten behind the well house so I ran and grunted stopping him shy of the tree line. Dropped him in his tracks. I've got a poor pic on my phone (Tim's dad had strung him up and skinned him before I could get a good one) we have little cell service but I'll try to get a pic up shortly.
4. No shame in a little support Joe! I'm sitting 25' up a Florida Oak tree overlooking a spot that the trail cam shows several bucks and several hogs frequenting. One looks to be 350+ pounds! The hog, not the deer ;) Leave it up to me to stir the pot and cause a relapse.
5. Interesting photo,
6.  Not sure if I just missed it or if it's just common thermal knowledge and my ignorance is showing but does anyone know what kind of range this thing has? The only range I saw on their site was the temp range.
7. Talking about the survival rifle I assume?
8.  Leave it to MSNBC... Semper Fee... what an idiot!
9.    Exactly what I was about to say. But to answer his question,  make a smaller hole going in and immediately start ripping a much larger one turning once normal flesh into hamburger meat.
10. Hey there's nothing wrong with working ahead a little bit. Why put off today what you can do in 10 months :) Well it was raining pretty hard this morning so the alarm got turned off and the eyes got re closed. We headed back out this afternoon at about 2 and saw nothing. Again when walking back to the truck we jumped a couple but they never showed themselves. Just stood there and blew at us. Tomorrow morning is our last chance here before we move east so I'm hoping for success.
11.    Thanks, I have internet here at my family's place but the camp we're going to doesn't have a residence on property so we'll be in a camper. Myaybe there will be enough cell service to update as we go and more importantly than cell service, here's hoping that there is something to update about  :x:
12.  Well I'm bringing this thread back until Wed. or Thurs. Another TGO member and myself have traveled to FL (we're staying with my grandparents and hunting land that my family settled way back when) to work some deer over and possibly some hogs if we're lucky. We got down here late last night and went out and hung stands for this morning. I saw nothing this morning and Tim had a doe sprint out of the woods, make a turn and never checked up. I took one this evening as we were headed in from the blind so we won't be coming home empty handed no matter how the rest of the trip goes. We'll hunt here tomorrow and again Monday morning before leaving to meet Tim's dad at a deer camp 45min - an hour east of here and hunt there until Thursday. My goal was to come home with at least 4 deer between the two of us so hopefully we'll meet and (fingers crossed) exceed that goal. Cell service was poor(actually non existent) and my cell battery was dead but i'll try to do better taking pictures of anything we a fortunate to take.   There are hogs getting really close to my family's property but so far have only been spotted once on a trail cam so I figure as fast as they multiply we'll be seeing them with some sort of regularity in the next few years. My cousin has killed a few within 2-3 miles of here so they are awful close and part of me is excited to get the chance at them but the other part dreads it because of the damage they are responsible for. The place that we are headed to on Monday has hogs move through often but is not overrun with them so i'm hoping we get a chance to take a couple while we're there.

Definitely! I think you would be hard pressed to find a better and more economical "blaster" rifle to destroy paper, clays or whatever else you had scattered around down range. I would have a hard time passing up on a cheaply priced AK74 or even an AR in the caliber. The first time I shot a 74 was when I met Sonny and a couple of his buddies at the range and his friend that owned the rifle was tickled to have others give his new rifle a test drive.

I miss typed, the price I saw was $175 not $165. I saw it in an email back before Thanksgiving (may have been the end of summer) and was part of a clearance deal. I can't remember which company it was though. I get email from probably 30-40 different gun related companies so they get lost. I thought I may have saved the link since I had gotten pretty hot about buying one for my wife so i'll dig around tonight and see if I can find it for you. I do remember that it was in one of those wooden crates though, that's what they had pictured anyways.

I wasn't meaning that surplus was the only source of 5.45 but that it is a major source of it and once that stock dwindles you will be left with mostly commercial ammo and I would think that it would be a fair bit more expensive which for me would remove the draw to the caliber. I was really surprised at how little recoil there was and I thought that it would be a great caliber choice for my wife to plink with.
16.    Beat me to that one. Funny thing is that I would have thought it was an unfinished part until two days ago when I was reading over a guys AR10 build that had a good picture showing the bolt catch. I was excited that I was gonna get to solve the mystery...  :ugh:
17.    I agree, a two day class sounds to be quite extreme! Our "range time" consisted of being handed a 20ga shotgun and 3 shells for it, one of the TWRA officers had one of those red plastic handheld skeet slingers and we got to shoot 3 clays (or in a lot of folks case, got to shoot AT 3 clays  ).
18.    I've never been fooled with before but I've also never hunted public much less federal land so i'm sure that has spared me the meetings. I was just curious because one would think that if they really wanted everyone that hunts, to go through the course then they would require it to be able to purchase a hunting license. I've never even been asked if I had completed the course let alone asked to prove it. I reckon if i'm going to venture of of very private land then i'm going to have to request a new card because I can't remember seeing it since I was 11-12yrs old.
19.    I haven't checked Outpost's website in quite some time so i'm not sure how current it is. I pass by it on my way to work most days and stop in usually 2-3 times per week for some little something or just to kill some time so i'll let you know if I spot any.
20. I want to build my own can but I just can't get my head wrapped around me sending off paperwork and cash and wait damn near a year just to walk out there and use my equipment to turn my material into something I want to use in a legal manner. I guess this thought pattern translates into other things besides guns such as personally owned private property and having to go get permission to build a new shop or even a friggen outhouse.
21. I gotcha. Not sure which powder I'm thinking of. There were a few 8# jugs of Accurate powder on the top right of the shelf but guess not only are they not the 2520 that I need but also not the 2230 that you need. I'll keep my eye out for you though.
22.  IMO until someone has been over there and had their buddy shot, blown up or mutilated or worse and dealt with all the emotions and thoughts first hand, they have no right to judge these Marines. My cousin was over in the first Gulf war and the things he saw the Iraqi "soldiers" do to others (dead or alive) completely numbs be to anything imaginable happening to the insurgents. Anyone sitting all cozy in Washington in their $2,000 office chair that thinks the Marines did something the wrong way should be on the first thing smokin' so they can get there and show them how to do it the "right way". We ask an awful lot of these men to then turn around and struggle to find a way to charge them with something. Why are we obligated to handle a dead muslim in any certain way anyhow.. Who cares,, I promise they wouldn't think twice about pissing on an American's head that they chopped off. Make ashes out of them.
23.  Has anyone ever had their "hunter safety course card" checked? I remember taking it as a kid and even then it seemed a large waste of time. I guess that stems from the fact that I have been being dropped off in the woods to hunt since I was really young as well as handling firearms from a young age... It, kinda like the HCP classes, seem more a formality than anything useful. I reckon if you weren't raised around it all, it wouldn't be second nature and I guess those are the ones the need it. I'm not even sure that I could find my hunters safety card if my life depended on it.
24.    My almost brother in law is Irish and he said he can go buy a can for his rifle just as easily as he could buy a can of Coke. Of course they can pretty much only own bolt action rifles and pump shotguns and even then they have to provide the police with a reason for them to "need" one as well as the police having approve that reason so I think I much prefer it to be the way it is here. Sure would be nice to have the best of both worlds though.
25. It seemed easiest to find for a while but it's like they just completely quit shipping now. Not sure if you ever get towards Nashville but A&H Reloading had every powder Accurate makes... except 2520 that is. You might check with them. I am thinking the outpost here in Murfreesboro had an 8# jug of 2230 the other night but I may be thinking of something else. I'll be by there in the next day or so and I'll check for you.
