I am sure that the resulting dialog will be mature, positive, reinforcing, and educational. /yeah right.

Folks...this is very good advise that will save you a lot of money trying to find a good holster. If you want to do anything smart in selecting an IWB holster - Do this first and foremost!

I agree with him 100% in that it is still major taboo and people are ignorant and cowardly in discussion of anything race related here in the USA We still have segregated Churches. Only now it is is personal preference rather than law ....same with schools ....and neighborhoods But the thing is - is it also 100% legal to do so. That being the case it is much to do about nothing. FYI...Bill Cosby said the same thing a while back (only sugar coated) and everyone seemed to agree with him.

The difference between the maverick and the 500 is the location of the safety. The 500 is tang safety and the maverick is a TG one like Remington. The only problem is that the engagement of the maverick safety is STIFF!!! to the point of almost being difficult to push. The relocation of the safety is the only material difference between the two...enough to pass $30 to the customer. Every thing else is identical.

I am just sad that you are ditching one of the best lever guns made. Gotta do what you gotta do, but 20 years from now you will certainly miss that beauty of a rifle.

Pay the $35 and when at the gun shop...make sure the person doing the transfer lets the seller know that he is 7 shades of stupid. After the sale is done...Can also personally tell him he is a fool.

If you really want a personal opinion...It is kinda ugly Also...there is a piece made to look like a heat shield around the barrel that may affect accuracy. 10/22 is quite sensitive to this with respect to the v-cam shifting. Barrel and sights being on different parts and all.

I think that 2400 is the best full-house .357 powder...even in short barreled guns. It does not "peak" at the upper load limits, meters well, and always fill at over half capacity to prevent double charging. For target .38 plinkers...Bullseye is king

Any 3rd generation S&W is a great gun. They are WAY underrated by many people.

Ruger MKIII Suppressor
I_Like_Pie replied to mdlave's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
The only problem with that is that a PAC-Lite threaded barrel will cost you more than the used gun you bought. They are nice and light, but do not offer any accuracy advantage over the factory MK pistol barrel and are considered firearms in and of themselves. Hero Gear is giving you good advice folks ...the easiest and "best" way to do is to have the existing gun threaded. When not "canned" the threads can be covered with a threaded nut that matches the barrel. Even better if your gun is stainless as there is no re-blue required. -
This is the nature of retail. Not exclusive to gun shops. It is a tough thing to do...running your own business.

Hey musicman...for a bit of entertainment put a small mirror in front of one of those guys. They get PISSED OFF in thinking the reflection is another beau picking a fight!!!!

Smith & Wesson is now making the 442 and 642 without the Hillary hole. The great thing is that they are a regular catalog item that has the exact same MSRP as the ones with the internal lock. Great news for people who have traditionally hesitated to buy a S&W...hopefully they will transition it to other models.

I am not disagreeing with you about them being correct. I just seem them as folks with strong convictions and no compassion ...in other words I wouldn't want them to tag along on a Sat. morning fishing trip.

Yeah...I feel the same way about the other old fart on FOX who likes to argue. They put it in writing and it makes perfect sense, but listening to them talk about anything makes one want to jab a pencil in their ear. You know the saying "They put on their shoes like everyone else?"I am not sure that they do without first thinking on how to make it a dem vs Repub issue and showboating about it for 5 minutes. Remember folks...The louder you talk...the more correct it makes you.

I understand the distaste, but they aren't that bad.

Funny how a couple of years ago you could pick them up for $90. Now they are fetching over $250. Forget my 401k....I could have invested in these things and retired at this rate. Too bad the $90 Mosins that C&R folks are ordering have little chance of doing the same.

I love a good night spent at the reloading bench!

Yes...It is my "escape" time. -
Probably not...they stopped dying their stuff last year or so. Might be able to call and ask. Tell them what it is for and they may do it for you. Top notch business they run.

Take the grips off and soak it in kerosene overnight. Swab it, blow it out, lube it and you are good to go. Do this only if the loaded chamber indicator is metal and not one of the newer plastic ones. Don't laugh...I know a lot of people that do this with great success.

Generalist/Blanket answers work...specific/answers offer different route to same destination. If you can't learn a .22 Rifle then you have no business with a gun. The people you taught did fine, but you could have done it another way using a .22 rifle. There are very few situations that have only right and wrong as a result. Something to toil over nothing about...Huh? Your hands are not as buttery smooth and soft as mine. The first half of my life was spent as the resident fluffer at a cow farm...I had lotion on my hands 8 hours a day. Depends on your eyes and your nerves. From 0-10 yards it is irrelevant. You could completely shave off the sights and it would still be capable of use as a self defense gun. Willing to bet even then I could shoot it better than some of the clowns at my local range. What if a pistol is all you have? Is there a good reason to limit your tactical options in such a way?Are we talking about a person learning to shoot with a snubby or seeing how much ammo we can carry? Sure...it is perfectly valid to expect 5 or 6 rounds to be sufficient enough to stop an intruder or protect oneself. If 6 isn't enough then how could one expect 12 to work? Loading a gun has nothing to do with marksmanship. If you can put 5 cartridges in 5 holes...then yes...you are proficient in loading a gun. It really is that simple. Unless you happen to know of some other way to reload a revolver. Note: I do not suggest starting a new shooter on a Black Powder Revolver. Isn't that the type of comparison we are talking about...if they are no worse then what is the problem? Actually you are wrong. A .40 out of a G27 (lighter gun + heavier load) does, in fact, have considerable more recoil energy than all but one or two really expensive .38 specials. As you mentioned this is a totally subjective thing. Besides, keeping it simple may not save their life?If that is the case...then semantics about firearm choice is the least of their worries.

If it truly is a new shooter...either one would be stupid. Start every shooter with a .22 rifle. For a noobie/self defense perspective...I disagree with every one of these ------------------------------------------------------ The cons: Difficult trigger pull Short sight radius Limited capacity More training required to reload proficiently Recoil ------------------------------------------------------ ...Here is why Difficult trigger pull - As in long travel or to heavy for people with weak hands? If you can't muster enough strength to pull the trigger...there is no way you can rack the slide on a semi. DA on most semi auto pistols is no different than a revolver. For a new shooter...a .5inch 4 pound glock trigger can be more of a liability. Short sight radius - A 10" barrel is no more accurate than a 2" one. Your ability to see it is better, but at the ranges you shoot most pistols...practical accuracy is not affected. You could train a monkey to hit the Carry permit targets with a snubnose...it is that easy. Limited capacity - If you need more than 5 or 6...you don't need a pistol. More training required to reload proficiently - ??? Cylindrical bullet fits in hole. Pretty simple to me. Recoil - Nobody said it had to be made of titanium. An SP101 is a snubnose and it weighs 10oz more than a Glock 17. ------------------------------------------------------ For an advanced shooter your comparison is valid simply because one will have mastery of anything they put in their hands. For a beginning handgunner there is nothing simpler to fire, clean, load, store, and use in a practical manner. KISS principle applies 100% Given just 60 seconds...there is not a single, english speaking person on the planet that I could not illustrate how to load, point, and fire a revolver to where at least one bullet hit a 5" circle at 10 feet. Mastery is a different story, but we are not talking a bullseye shoot here. Which would you rather a 75 year old grandmother use? How about a person who only wants one gun in a house for self defense...will sit on a shelf for 20 years? How about someone who really doesn't like guns, but needs one for a purse or pocket?

That is AWESOME!!!!! So....How much $$$?
