  1. I often us a matech sight and a holosun red dot together that uses 1/3 lower co witness. This has a number of advantages. 1. Matech sight can do elevation adjustments out to 600 yards with presets. 2. I still have my front sight available for range estimation 3. When shooting for distance, I set the iron sights for the distance and then move the red dot to sit just atop the front sight post 4. I can then flip down the rear sight and raise my sight line ever so slightly so that the fsp is no longer in line with the target providing ample view I have used this combo to great success at a know distance Appleseed event scoring a 44 out of 50 and earning the KD rocker for the rifleman badge. Unless you have some other object available for range estimations, such as mildots or other ranging reticle, I find the front sight post to be a fairly critical tool on a rifle for more than just aiming. 2. Well this was a fun trip down memory lane. So battleground Vegas has found holosun built red dots to hold up well and they have fantastic battery life. Primary arms 3x magnifier has really good clarity. Add on a flip to side moubt and you have a fantastic combo. This is what I use on my hunting AR pistol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Lancer mags are better than Pmags. Steel feed lips on a polymer mag. Some are transparent. I love their mags. Pmags are good, lancer are better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Lots of reports of accuracy issues on the 224 Valkyrie. JP rifles first line of barrels will not have an accuracy guarantee. There was speculation that this was related to 1:7 twist not being sufficient for 90gr but recent evidence seems to disprove the theories around twist. JP, airborne arms and others have been measuring the ogive of the 90gr FGMM and found that the jump from ogive to lands is too great. 60gr Nosler is showing good accuracy and to apprears to be related to this. Based off of this, I think Federal was buying into their own propaganda and released this caliber prematurely. Chambers, or maybe bullet design need to be re-evaluated. My hope is that new chamber specs are released so as to come up with a more consistent ogive to lands jump that allows the current 4 factory rounds to all perform well. So, it’s a bit early to jump on the bandwagon. Personally, I like semi auto rifles that can perform well at long range and are weight conscious. It’s a bit of a unicorn, but I think this round has the potential to fit that, but still needs some evolution. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Do I misunderstand the laws or did your friend manufacture your firearm. Did he have an FFL that allows him to? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. My sig M400 Enhanced been tossed, jolted, dropped, shot in prone, rested on the Magazine and never had a problem. The only reliability issues I have had is with Tula steel cased ammo. I recommend Sig for AR-15s. All that said, what Sig told you is a bunch of crap. Have dolemite call Sig on your behalf ;-). Seriously, I would call them again if I were you and call them out on saying that it isn't a problem with the gun. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  7. My new Adam arms upper doesn't like Tula steel. Even now, after having put nearly 200 rounds through it, it seems to be not happy with the steel ammo. However, it has been flawless with brass after the first 40 rounds or and a small application of hornady zero shot. As for accuracy, 1-2 moa for various 50g and 55gr loads. Most of my 77gr haven't faired really well either. However, 69gr has done very well, with 69gr fgmm making two small holes with 5 rounds and coming in at .64moa. If I can make a load that closely mirrors that performance, I will be a happy man. Probably time I invest in either varget or rl-15. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  8. I don't have personal experience with any bolt rifles for long range beyond a Savage 10fp. I have read a bit from others who claim to have experience with FN SPR bolts. Reddit's /r/longrange loves them. Best out of the box rifle on the market seems to be their viewpoint over there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  9. Welcome home. Just remember, there are media sources that prey on the fear they try to generate. Usually they are about 75-80% accurate but the 20-25% extra distorts the truth solely for the purpose of generating fear. Infowars every now and then has good stories but often times they are wolf criers. I have started categorizing Glenn Beck as a wolf crier as well. However, he usually has well researched and validated information, he just sees nazis everywhere. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  10. Am I reading this right? Did you say you are going to SBR an 80% lower? That seems counter to why 80% lowers are built... As for your mk12 build and 416 or other barrels. It is a myth that 416ss barrels are more accurate. The barrel manufacturing process is more important than whether or not it is 416, 410, 4140 or 4150. 410 and 4150 are your stronger steels, and will typically last longer than 416 or 4140. Decide how much you are willing to gamble/spend for a highly accurate barrel and then shop for a manufacture that will provide you the barrel profile you want that fits your budget. Douglas, Krieger, Pac-Nor, etc... will be some of your higher end barrel manufactures that have a better chance of providing you an extremely accurate barrel. However, if all you are looking for is sub-moa, your options really open up. Good barrels for 1moa or less: Wilson Combat, Stoner, Brownells, Rainer Select, Prairie Tactical, Saturn (know to make Brownells), and much, much, more. Remember, the lighter the barrel profile, the easier it is to carry, but the more likely it is to start walking (or becoming less accurate) after it starts to heat up. I have seen many a gun that fires a great 3 round group in under a .5 inches, but if not allowed to cool off some, round 4 and five really open it up to about in inch or greater. Decide what your goal is for the rifle and what your budget is, and get the barrel that is right for you. There are a lot of really good articles online that go into some very detailed depth about barrels. Also, don't overlook the trigger. For my money, the SSA-E is the way to go for precision, but the RRA 2 stage, is a very good second in my opinion, and costs about 1/2 the price. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  12. interesting article. Makes a very good case for using 77gr for defensive purposes. However, I couldn't find any info in it about twist rate and its effects on bullets tumbling to flesh or similar mediums. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  13. Dolomite, I have been trying to find data that confirms you assertion that twist affects tumble and fragmentation within a body or flesh. The only thing I can find that provides any data one way or another is the post buy molon on arfcom. Do you have any links I can read? http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=512635 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  15. Troy 16" quad rail AR for $600 if you are in the market, this is probably the best quality AR you will find in its price range. Some people are still boycotting Troy industries for some poor personnel decisions they made but have since corrected. I for one, have no problem with them since they fix the problem and their rifles are top notch. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
