Teflon tape like you use on pipe threads will work to stop leaks around threads if that is where your leak is around the threads of the jar to feeder. I have used it a couple times with good success.

Buying it cheap and stacking it deep!!!
bersaguy replied to owejia's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Well where I live now I feel I have enough ammo on hand to keep myself defended and between my son in laws stock pile and mine we are good to go. If things don't calm down pretty soon it may not wait for the elections. I just don't see the marches and riots getting this far out but when the bigger ones are going on I do make a few changes on house things. I have a camera system installed that was here when I moved here that SIL's company had installed when they were storing equipment in this house and it is hooked to my computer and I can see everything going on all around the outside of the house day or night. -
Well your luck sounds like mine on that lake. I know a lot of people go down there and have a great time. I'm just not one of them and it sounds like your trip was not all that great. Glad you got out away from things for a while. They say a bad day on the water is better than a great day at work. I think that is from people that just hate their jobs.....LOL. About the grass on lower units. I have had friends or known several people that burned up their lower units trying to push their boat through that grass so I never did get in the grass but just fished from the weed lines with motor in clear water.

Well I guess I got it right cause I have 5 feeders and I made a gallon of Sugar water using 4 cups of sugar and boiling it just right. I still have that one very small hummer coming to the feeder he has laid claim to and as of now he has no competition and has all 5 feeders to himself but he has picked out one that is out of site of the other 4 and he seems to like the water cause he will come on the feeder and drink 10 or 15 times and then fly up in a tree across the yard every time. He is the smallest Hummer I have ever seen. I don't think head to tail he is over 1.5 inches long and grey with a red throat. I am hoping to get a few more soon. I will be changing out the fluid in a week in all of them. I have a gallon made and in the fridge!!

I use to ask my boys if they had hollow legs that they were feeding. They were only 13 months apart in age and both very active in Sports so they were always hungry.....LOL!

I would like to get some opinions on how much sugar they use in making the water for Hummingbirds. When I make it I make it by the gallon and use 4 cups of sugar. What do ya'll do in making yours? Looking to make sure I am making mine sweet enough.....LOL

Thank you Quavodus but I wouldn't say I was tough. I think having a wife and two bay boys depending on me was what drove me the most. I was hurt while at work so I was getting workmen's comp pay but it was hard for my wife to stretch that with two boys eating everything in site.....LOL. Between workers Comp and truck owners insurance all my medical bills were paid and I hired a lawyer to sue the guys insurance company and we won in the 1st court and they appealed and we won in the second court and they appealed again and I learned later before it ever got into the third and final court hat my lawyer without my permission filed a Non-suit and the case was dropped and my former lawyer became a corporate lawyer for the Aetna Insurance company which was the Insurance company we were fighting and beating in court. They bought my lawyer off and put him to work and all I got was a 15% permanent disability settlement from Workers Comp. I tried to hire another lawyer to sue Aetna and the lawyer I could not find a lawyer back then that would sue a fellow lawyer so I just lost 1.3 million because that is what the lawsuit was for and we were very close to winning. Life is what it is and I made sure my family was cared for and went back to work before I was released by the doctor but was close to losing a few things like house and car...LOL.

I think most of the numbers depend on who your listening to at that time and moment. Every station you watch has different numbers. If you stop and think about it a few minutes of course the numbers will change each day depending on how many test results get reported that day but many of those test may be a couple weeks old and just now being added to the total. That goes for local numbers and nation wide numbers. Until they stop testing for a 30 day period nation wide and locally and give all the test results time to all get in is the only way the numbers could be accurate. Testing only keeps everyone not knowing the real total. Even then those numbers will not be true numbers because there are still millions of people that have not been tested. The daily numbers are what the politicians are concerned about so they know if they can begin to re open the country or a local area can reopen certain businesses. Those daily numbers are no more accurate then the monthly numbers because many of the tests being reported are probably at least a week or longer old and mixed with tests from a couple days ago. This entire operation from day one has been a cluster of not really knowing what to do about the problem and will be as long as the Virus exists with no treatment for it. I think both the Governor and Mayor of Nashville have both figured out that they are chasing their tails and have quit doing the daily reports because they really have no solution to fix the real problem. I think the 2 million dollars worth of tainted masks they were handing out was the final straw in their effort to give their daily reports to the public.....JMHO

Well I have read a bunch of ailments here and I will be the first to say that getting old is part of life. I have been told that all my life. The part they left out was the aches and pains that came with the getting old part. I feel blessed every day when I wake up and am able to put my feet on the floor and stand up. Yea , it hurts like hell when I begin snapping all my joints back in shape so I can actually walk and use my arms but a doctor told me back in 1978 that I would go through that if I lived to be older. He was telling me that getting smashed between a pickup truck and a brick wall with the truck going about 30 MPH could not have been a pleasant thing I would like to do every day. I think he was trying to be a comedian and get a smile out of me. That did happen to me back in 1978 and after 5 major abdominal surgeries and numerous broken bones repaired and spleen removal among other things and over 400 x-rays I should glow in the dark I'm still here. I did spend from April 17th to December 15th in the hospital fighting infections. Since then I have undergone 4 more surgeries for hernias caused by my weak abdominal wall from the truck and being a mechanic 25 + years. In 1990 my last hernia repair was the end of my working career as the doctor had to rebuilt my inner abdominal wall with 30 square inches of Mylex mesh that is stitched into my body with stainless steel thread. I have had an abdominal aneurism repaired and under went open heart triple by pass surgery 2.5 years ago. The doctor that caught my case back in 1978 told me because I was a young man my recovery would be good until about age 50 and about that time I would begin feeling that truck. He was off by about 5 years. I really began feeling the effects of the truck at age 55 and it had gradually gotten worse. I have really felt many more effects since the open heart surgery. I never needed a cane to walk any long distances and now I do but I have come to terms with the fact that with all my body has been through and I am now 72 years old I have finally accepted the fact that I am better off than many others and I will not complain about the aches and pains but just be happy with what I still am able to do

Back where I use to live at one time I had 2 feeders up and more birds than I had feeders for so I went and go 2 more and soon I had more birds than 4 feeders could serve so I went and bought 4 more for a total of 8 and that seemed to work. I can remember one day in particular, hot mid summer and I was gone fishing for three days and when I got back home the birds let me know right quick that something was wrong and the feeders were empty and I always keep a gallon of sugar in the fridge for emergencies and this was one so I went and got two feeders took the in the house and washed them and filled them and as I went back out and started for the patio to hang them on the house hooks I had birds on the feeders and eating while I was carrying them and after I hung them they continued to feed. That happened with all the feeders I filled and took back out and once I got inside I started making more sugar water and that evening I needed to fill them all again. At that time I had about 30-35 birds or more and they sure would put on a show just before night fall when they would come to feed up before going to roost. I miss my birds and hope I get a swarm of them here even though I know it might take a season or two. I'm going to have my daughter plant some vine type horn flowers along the base of my deck so they will grow up the deck and along the laddus to attract more birds next year.

This is a new place for me to have feeders up and my daughter told me that she as lived here 18 years and not seen any but I think if you hang feeders they will come eventually and the other day I had one small male show up and he has decided to hang around and has been on the feeder everyday since the first test of the nectar. I figure where there is one there is more so I will start watching the feeders more to see if I get more.

When I lived in Gallatin I had these same feeders up and could not keep them full. I would have 25+ birds fighting over them all day long. I was thrilled to see that youngster show up and he came back today several times. I have been looking from time to time all day but still only the little one but I know if there is one there will be more or already is and I just have not looked at the feeders when they are on them. I get great pleasure watching them perform their games......

Well, I'm late to this party as usual and have read about 6 pages before jumping to the last one. When I first heard and read about it I began to prepare with the necessary items such as food and paper products but didn't go crazy on paper products like many people did. I can't eat those and I focused more on the food end of it. I made sure my freezers were full and cabinets were full and my SIL and daughter do my weekly shopping for me when they do theirs. I have not been off the property in almost 3 months but I do go out and walk the property as we have 5 acres to walk around on. I have company come by and visit from time to time and we visit while doing social spacing. mostly out on the back deck. I do have about 10 N95 masks my SIL got for me from his work place. They have to buy them by the cases because they are used in the performance of their job. They spray a product that is a fire proofing agent in commercial buildings while they are under construction. I really don't care about going out and tempting fate. I have a heart condition, I am diabetic, I have had lung conditions since the both collapsed when that truck hit me back years ago and I am 72 years old so don't see much need to push the envelope and tempt fate!

That is about when I put mine out and didn't see any birds for all that time. Took them all down and washed them and put new nectar in them and that one little male showed up and he came back to the same feeder all afternoon and evening. As far as a month ago, I was not expecting to get any homesteaders but thought I might get a few travelers that will find feeders, stay a couple days and get back in the migration. I may have had them and just missed them but I think this little male will stay here till Fall.
-
Well I have said if you hang them they will come and my daughter told me I was wasting my time cause she has lived here 18 years and not seen 1. Well I hung them a month ago and have not seen any. Today I brought the feeders in and wash them and put fresh nectar in them and about 1 hour ago I had a small bird on one of the feeders and so far he has been back about 5 times. He is a small Redneck male. I am guessing he was born this past year since he is so small but 1 is a start and were there is one there is usually more. I have 5 feeders up so we shall see!!!!!

Sounds like you have the same problem with Sig's I have with Bersa's ……….

I fished a very similar rig like that but I used top water baits in the beginning. I use a bait called a front runner made by Norman bait company which I think are still sold and a Zara Super Spook Junior. The Front runner had a front and rear line ties and 1 Treble hook hanging from the belly. I would add a 12 inch leader to the back of the front runner and nose ring of the Zara spook. I used a 7.6 foot road and I couldn't count the times I would catch doubles on the rig. Bass are very competitive and normally there will be a couple around that will compete for both baits. Normally the front runner bass was the smaller one but it was tough fighting 2 fish at the same time but was also exciting too!!! I did a lot of experimenting with that rig and found another bait that worked better then the front runner and that was a SSR 5 Shad Rap with and would remove the rear hook and tie a leader about 12-15 inches long and put a Rattling Rogue bait on the leader and fish it in 5 to 10 foot water. Caught a lot of fish on it also. I don't know how many people like to experiment but it can be a lot of fun and sometimes very productive!!!

If I was going and wanted a chance to catch a big fish or 2 I would go to Lake Chickamauga down near Dayton Tennessee and you would not have to buy a license and have a much better chance of catching a big fish!! Use same baits you would on Guntersville.

Don't look for that to happen any time soon. There are far to many tournaments on that lake that have an average of 100-150 out of state anglers in any one tournament that has to buy out of state licenses. If the tournament directors would talk to the merchants and motel owners and tell them they will not be coming back if they have to keep buying the licenses the merchants and the motel owners might be able to apply enough pressure to get the Game and Fish of Alabama to waive anglers from neighboring states that have their home state license and get them to start working together.

The last tournament I fished was on that lake and it was the most miserable trip and week I ever spent fishing and it was the last time I fished for about 5 years and then I went back to night fishing for smallmouth's on Percy Priest Lake and have not done that now in 3 years. We got down there on Tuesday to begin practicing and it was raining dogs and cats and winds 30+MPH It was that way all the way thru Friday and wake up Saturday to zero wind and high bluebird skies. We started the tournament and about 2 hours later my partner said did you hear that? I said what and he said never mind and then about 15 minutes later he said it again and I said you hearing Gallatin calling and he said you heard it to huh? An hour later we were back at motel, packed up and got credit for that night coming and we were back home before the 1st day weigh in started. We fished the first day for 3 hours and never got a bite is why we went home. Went thru Hell in Practice for 4 days and then wake up to a beautiful day told us the bite was not going to be on and we left. I had looked forward to fishing that tournament all year long and it broke my heart! I never fished another tournament since. All I can tell you about the lake is make sure you have plenty of Hollow Body Frogs and 60lb Braided line and fish all the grass or weeds you can find. The closer you get to the dam the better the grass bite is. Just sit on the weed line and chunk them frogs. If you can't get bit on Frogs try soft plastic swim baits both in the weeds and on the weed lines. If those don't work it's pot luck from there.

I own one of those in black and I got it in a trade on a couple fire arms and forgot I had it in the safe for quite a while. I finally took it out and actually put some rounds thru it and I have to admit I was impressed. It is very accurate and will eat any brand of ammo I fed it and I could run it as fast as I could pull the trigger and it never failed to fire or jam. I cleaned it up and put it back in the safe and ran up on 3 more mags for it. Holds 10 rounds.

Well, quite a few things have changed or been updated since I was here before my move so I need to ask a question. I want to sell something not firearm related but not sure were to post it. Hope someone can help me out. If you can help send me a PM and I will tell you what I want to sell and you can maybe tell me were I can safely post it. Thanks Bersaguy aka Doug

Goodwill has become very picky what is dropped off at there store and don't want but certain items left at their trailers so if DAV is gone it will be dumpster food.

I have already asked SIL and daughter about a second hand store in the area and they have lived here 18 years and never seen one but I will do some research on line to see if there is one in the area before I trash it. I might see if my SIL would drop it by one of the DAV stores in Nashville since he is in there every day for work and there is one on Gallatin road in East Nashville I think.
