I have a Leatherman Charge, and it's awesome. I used to be a Gerber guy, and they aren't necessarily bad, but I'm converted to Leatherman.

I get that to some of you it's fun to piss off hippies and all, but making a big to-do about it seems like bad form, especially the part about someone bleeding out. That's not the type of conversation I'd have with a stranger, and I wouldn't feel it my place to deliver a lecture. Whenever I'm asked why I carry, I just tell them "I refuse to become a victim without a fight," and leave it be.

This is like the proposed green tip ban, where enough public resistance can make BAFTE back down. Admittedly, it's not as impactful to the gun community as the green tip ban was, but I think the fact that it is going after dedicated shooters is a deliberate act. The NRA could shake the tree, spin up the grassroots, put Congressman on notice know they expect them to support or sponsor legislation to prohibit it, lest they find a challenger getting the funding, or their own rating downgraded, etc... I'm not sure if BAFTE is really going to go through with it in December, but that's the best time if they were. America will be focused on Xmas shopping, vacations and their own personal lives, while the beginning of next year brings about the Presentational primary season, and plenty of other issues will push this down in importance. Perfect time to slide in something they've wanted for a good bit.

If the NRA can leverage their power and beat this back, I might take back some of the mean spirited things I've said about them. Time will tell.

SOWF is a very worthy charity, and they put the funds they receive to awesome effect. Charity Navigator rates them at four stars, with 98.96 out of 100 on their scoring matrix, which is pretty damn high. -
I think the current applicable laws are good enough. A good enough DA or ADA would be able to comb through the TCA and find plenty of charges if the evidence was good enough. Your standard variety thief isn't going to steal a gun for home defense. Odds are they don't have a HCP, so they can get hit with a charge on carrying it while out and about, if they use it while committing a crime that will be an additional charge, and if they tried to sell it- probably to one of their friends- I'm pretty sure it would qualify as deliberately selling a firearm to someone they know does not qualify to possess one, which incurs a charge as well. As to the restoration of rights (voting, firearms, etc...) I think that in non-violent crimes, once a sentence and any probation time is complete, the person should have all rights restored automatically. Violent offenders are always going to be a case-by-case basis.

Awesome story. My father spent a few years in the mid-late 60's serving in Germany and eventually made it to Vietnam. I'll have to ask him if he was ever on a troop ship.

Finally bought an armorer's tool

I bought one a year ago, it worked good for the lower I was building. I also paid $10 less than Amazon is selling it for now...guess they've been selling well. -
Comcast's blocks any foreign router until the customer calls to active it by giving them the MAC address. The customer service rep has to manually add it to their network. Then you get to repeat the process when it "mysteriously" drops off at some point.

I found it funny that the cable industry and their lobbyists got quite pissy when the FCC changed the definition of broadband internet to 25Mbps download/3Mbps upload. The National Cable & Telecommunications Association actually said this change would, and I quote, "dramatically exaggerate the amount of bandwidth needed by the typical broadband user." That would mean the serves they push on customers with as much enthusiasm as a drug dealer- often well in excess of the 25/3 standard- should be defined the same way.

You can still plug your computer directly into the private modem. If you need more than one port, you can just get a switch like this one for an extra $20. If you don't need wifi, then you don't have to connect it to a wifi router. My private modem cost $70. It basically paid for itself after seven months, and I've had it for a year and a half now, so the savings also paid for my wireless router which cost another $50.

You had one of those promotional rates. The fine print had the timeline for it. Depending on if you agreed or not to a fixed period, you can call to negotiate it. I was on the same thing with my service package, but I wasn't locked into anything past the promotional rate. When the raise in the bill came, I called them, told them I wasn't going to pay higher than a certain amount, and they magically found a combination of discounts to get me under that number. This last time they tried to sell me more speed at the higher price, but I told them I live alone, 25Mbps is all I need, and $50 per month before taxes and fees is my limit. Just be firm with what you want, but don't expect them to give you more service or less of a price than you've already had at some point. Renting one of their modems is out of the question. They can't BS me since I actually know the specs of my modem. The Motorola Surfboard I've had since I signed up with Comcast can handle six times the speed I'm paying for right now, so if they ever tried to tell me their lies, I'll call them out on it riki tik.

Pete, I'll remind you of this story next time you compare yourself to the Rolling Stones with regards to sex appeal.

Unless you've got an exception to policy from an admin or moderator, the TGO Trading Post is for all buying, selling, and trading on here. You'll need a Benefactor membership to participate in it.

Two questions... 1) Why does someone concerned with the "end of days" need money? 2) Can we just slip this into the Jade Helm thread as part of a containment protocol for all the crazy?

If that logo and the price paid for it turns out to be the result of a corrupt free process, we're in a lot more trouble than I envisioned.

I think anybody would be proud to have a son like yours. Book smarts to set him up in life, and protection instincts for his family in a real world situation. The whole mowing thing is very correctable for a kid that smart.

I'm taking Astronomy 1030: Exploring the Universe and the lab for it during the June semester. As a former space geek kid, to say I'm syked would be an understatement. The syllabus for the lab has night viewings, which I'm very much looking forward to. Concur with wanting this guys Facebook page. Hopefully it's not locked so I can see what he has posted.

An official national police force like some think isn't going to happen. Using the FBI to make more cases- especially race related ones- federal cases could. And I think we all know that coercion through federal funding is standard procedure for both parties. So, that's nothing new Wrong. It wasn't all equipment, just very specific types, with added requirements to get others. From USA Today: "Banned will be tracked armored vehicles, bayonets, grenade launchers, camouflage uniforms, and large-caliber weapons and ammunition. "So we're going to prohibit some equipment made for the battlefield that is not appropriate for local police departments," Obama said. "There's other equipment that may be needed in certain cases, but only with proper training." That equipment will be placed on a "controlled equipment list" that includes aircraft, wheeled tactical vehicles, mobile command-and-control units, battering rams and riot gear. To have access to that equipment, police departments must meet national policing standards, track their use and receive approval from the federal government before selling or transferring them. To be eligible to purchase that equipment, agencies must adopt "robust and specific written policies and protocols" covering not just the use of the federal equipment, but their policing practices in general. Agencies that violate those rules would be barred from future equipment purchases for at least 60 days and, in some cases, be referred to the Justice Department for a civil rights investigation." Unless someone thinks the local police department needs tracked vehicles, camo uniforms, and bayonets, I'm quite fine with those bans. Not sure if the grenade launchers include all types, or just automatic ones like the MK-19. Or if the armored vehicles they get that normally have launchers mounted will be taken off. But don't worry, local PD's can still get a vehicle meant to protect against IED's in Iraq, they just have to do some more paperwork and training. Of course, nothing is stopping local and state agencies from going out and buying all this stuff themselves. Nothing except having to justify the cost of it to their taxpayers, of course. I'd love to see the day where the Federal teet is cut off for these agencies. Then we might get to have a real conversation about some laws that need to be repealed (cough *marijuana laws* cough...no pun intended) and the techniques that drive just how much equipment law enforcement says they need.

I picked up a few things from Primary Arms that should get here tomorrow. The savings on one item pretty much paid for the shipping. PSA's lower build kits are a good deal, though I wish they would let you upgrade to an H2 buffer for a small upcharge without having to buy it separate. The PSA Bolt Carrier Group for $90 is another good deal they have going on.

I have coverage from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee that I bought through the federal exchange. We'll see how much my rates go up when the time comes.

CZ Scorpion Evo S1 Pistol Project
btq96r replied to jmevis's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
While I completely understand the allure of SBR'ing one of these, given current TN law, I think when I get one, I'll keep it as a pistol with the brace adapter and a CAA cheek weld saddle on it. Gives me more versatility where I can take it out and about on trip. That said, SBR'ing this thing would be something I'm open to down the road as it would make shooting a lot more fun. Like hipower, the CZ folding stock doesn't blow my skirt up. I think it actually looks okay with an AR collapsible stock, though some would call me a heretic. I'm also glad the adapters for suppressors are coming along. The CZ Scorpion thread on AR15.com has some good pics of them. I think this gun with its versatility is going to be around for a while. -
That price for a new logo was absurd. $46k for what is essentially a 12yr old level of graphic design? They could have had a held a contest for high school & college students with a $500 gift card as a reward and gotten some decent submissions. They need to probe hard between who had authorization for that contract and the people of the agency it went to for links. If this was simple stupidity and not corruption in some way I'll be...well, still pissed, but astoundingly pissed instead of same old corruption pissed.

One more thing I'll add: I really wish Veterans Day was the last Monday in May and Memorial Day was November 11th. If we're going to have a holiday where people take a long weekend and kick off summer, it would be more appropriate for it to be have a joyful holiday such as Veterans Day to justify it. As it stands now, not many people really take the meaning of Memorial day to heart. Putting our Memorial Day in alignment with other countries around the world who celebrate Remembrance Day and Armistice Day would make it more powerful, and weather-wise remembering the dead just seems more natural on single cool fall day rather than a warm weekend. Plus, it could be easier to get the public involved without a long weekend associated; schools could center activities around it, ect... Just my thoughts.
