Perhaps he thought you might be next? :)

I saw that before making the OP. It is fast: however, perhaps too fast? Thinking of the instances where people have shot family members by mistake because of waking, drawing, and firing before they were awake enough to identify their target. Also, I'd hate to swing my arms back in my sleep to wake up to the firearm smacking me in the face.
-
I'd also think that you'd want the sliding mechanism to be made out of metal. Wood will swell risking it binding on you at an inopportune moment.
-
I think the bumper/shock would be absolutely necessary - particularly if you made it a full oak slide on a Kommifornia King bed. It would have to be straight up and down too like in the picture otherwise the mattress/frame would get in the way. If I had a planer/joiner I'd be all over this.
-
That'd work! EDIT: As long as you had a good latch in place.
-
I did think of roll-top desk-ish type of front after I wrote that. :) Not wild about that look, however.
-
But it would also be obvious that it's a sliding door. :(

I was thinking a secret release. I have a safe to keep my stuff protected, but a place to stash quick access firearm that can't be easily accessed by my grandchildren when they are over would great.

Concealed Carry on Military Installations - Possibly

Ain't that the truth! They'd also reserve the right to officers and senior Staff NCO's -
One made in oak without the star would be great!

"Manufacturers in the U.S., such as Remington Arms Co. LLC and Winchester Ammunition, have been able to ramp up production of centre-fired, higher velocity bullets to meet increased demand, but they are unable to do the same for the rim-fired .22s, which are tougher and more expensive to make." And just how are they tougher and more expensive to make?

How to survive a carjacking

Yep! -
I said "CLEO" not some guy on the phone. That would really translate to the TWRA as well. The approach you espouse is purely speculative and not worthy of 3-page debate since it resolves nothing, IMHO. I don't know about Tennessee, but in Missouri where I was a LEO we had discretion as to whether to enforce the letter of the law which was governed by common sense. The only time that a LEO was required to arrest someone was if there was an arrest warrant issued for them. When you tell the responding officer that you've checked with their Chief so-and-so who said this was the appropriate action to take in this situation they are going to think before they clasp you in irons and drag you off to a jail cell. No officer in their right mind wants to be perceived as being void of common sense by his command or the court officers. EDIT: Also, absent of a witness or self-incriminating statements, no department is going to go through the expense of forensic testing just to prove that you shot a wounded animal that they would have to shoot to begin with.
-
Anybody interested enough to call the TWRA and actually ask them? I would certainly think it wise to ask your local CLEO.
-
So there seems to be other issues coming out of this. Stories about people who were not involved in the violence being arrested for simply being there are emerging as I thought they would. The "police cancelling" another motorcycle rally somewhere else in the state? What happened to freedom of assembly? I suspect there's a mess of lawsuits on the horizon.

How to survive a carjacking

I'm sure that as a LEO you were shown videos of prisoners practicing disarming techniques in the exercise yard as I was. Most non-LEOs don't think about such things: therefore, they don't know that a lot of thugs are better trained than they are. -

My doors lock automatically. Even with the windows down it would be tough for someone to open them from the outside. As stated, criminals not only look for the easy mark but also count on shock value to ruin identification. Making eye contact with people at intersections demonstrate awareness and "I see you" to criminals. No way at my age and medical condition am I going to try and beat someone off. I'll just do my best to shoot them in the face. -
To add to it he was targeted: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/shooter-was-fixated-on-george-zimmerman-police-report-says/ar-BBjXHiZ

I've know several bikers that carry a chain for when a car gets too close.
