  1. Welcome neighbor! I'm not far from you at all. I could go for that. But don't look to me to set it up. I'm about as unorganized as they come.
  2. A month ago the price for a decent USGI M1 Carbine was about $1000. Yesterday it was $1200-1400. Tomorrow the Midway rifles go on sale and who knows what the "going" rate will be after that. The age of cheap Mil-Surps is gone. Never to return. If you want one, now is the time regardless of price.
  3. I checked my Carbine mags. I have plenty of good USGI mags in both 15 and 30 rounds for my needs. But I also have two new in the package / never been used aftermarket 20 rounders. If things get as wild as I expect, I just might let these two go.
  4. I was curious about selling these rifles without magazines. So I asked Midway. Here's their response: "Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Unfortunately due to the M1 carbines not arriving to us with magazines in them, we will not be selling them with magazines. We will however offer several aftermarket magazines on our website that should be compatible." So it has nothing to do with restrictive states or just screwing the customers. Midway just don't have the mags. That's gonna make things very interesting.
  5. I e-mailed Midway and asked if any have the flip rear sight. They said the guns only come as pictured. All the pics have the later adjustable sights. So I guess I'm out. I'm waiting eagerly for somebody to get one and report on it. I do want to know exactly what condition these things are in.
  6. Even in today's market, these price are several hundred too high. Generally, the current pricing for a decent M1 Carbine is right around $1000. However, I bet they sell every last one of 'em. Notice that these rifles are sold without magazines and don't appear to have slings or accessories. As a carbine owner already, I have noticed that over the last few years that supplies of mags and accessories have been drying up and getting more expensive. Where surplus GI mags once could be easily found new in wrap for $4.99, now in some places they're up to $30-40. If they can be found at all. And on top of that there is the current ammo situation. I fear that Midway suddenly dropping thousands of carbines on the market will only make make prices on ammo and accessories skyrocket. I would kinda like to have an early rifle with the flip rear sight and no bayonet lug. But I'm gonna wait until they actually go on sale to see exactly what they have and pricing.
  7. Yup. Sounds about right.
  8. I also noticed that the kid is 10 years old while the father is 26. It seems that stupid breeds stupid.
  9. Maybe for international shipping they're good. About 10 years ago I bought a rifle from a guy in St. Louis. He shipped it DHL. It took a week for it to get to me traveling by way of Waco, TX. I use anybody else.
  10. I guess I'm now officially the neighborhood gun guy. I've never really flaunted my hobby. But I guess the neighbors have noticed when I load up and go to the range or occasionally go to the mailbox without covering my EDC. Yesterday one of my neighbors, an older lady around 70, knocked on my door. Seems that she had heard that I was good with guns and asked for my help. She recently bought a Sig P365. She had field striped it for cleaning but when she put it back together she couldn't get the take down lever to go back into proper position. I took a look. I know these are good guns and folks speak highly of them. However, I have no personal experience with them. Fortunately a few minutes on YouTube was all it took to discover the little trick of pushing up on the slide lock to seat it. I showed her how to do it and she caught right on. Today she came back. She had purchased four extra magazines. (smart lady) But for her model the floor plates needed to be changed out. The correct parts are included. Again to YouTube and I swapped out the floor plates in just a few minutes. She was very appreciative and thanked me over and over. I told her that helping is what neighbors are for. BTW: I asked her about ammo and she said she had gotten up at 4:30 am to be first in line at Academy. She has enough for her needs.
  11. The USPS distribution center in Memphis is a mess. I've had packages run perfectly on schedule from the shipper only to arrive in Memphis and suddenly disappear for a week or more. I've also had packages arrive in Memphis only to be shipped off again to some totally unrelated city. Calling this place incompetent would be a complement.
  12. I believe I'm good for at least two years. But I'm not shooting as much as I used to either. This is my fear. Congress just keeps on spending billions and trillions of our tax dollars like it was water. This can't go on without major economic repercussions.
  13. They got 38 guns. Atlanta is safe now!
  14. From the reports I've seen, westbound traffic seems to be moving pretty well. Its eastbound on the Arkansas side that seems to have the most problems. Is that about right? On another board I visit, a trucker reported that yesterday there was a minor accident on the I-55 bridge that clogged up eastbound traffic all the way back into West Memphis. He just found himself a motel rather than fight it. . Thankfully, I currently have no need to travel west. I'm trying my best to keep it that way.
  15. Oh, far from it. Local news is digging fast, hard and deep. Trying desperately to fling poop far and wide.
  16. You people are weird! I like that!
  17. I'm not saying the didn't deserve getting fired. He most definitely did. What I'm saying is that government wasted no time at all in finding someone to blame. That's their normal procedure.
  18. I seriously doubt the bridge is in any danger of collapsing. I would be more concerned with the added flexing causing damage to the roadway above the crack. Cracks, separations or holes in the road surface would be very dangerous to traffic.
  19. Well they may not have a real plan of action yet. But in typical government fashion, they quickly found somebody to blame.
