Military term. You pop a smoke grenade to let your helicopter pick up locate your position and get you out. Yeah, the way he used it sounded kinda dumb to me too.

On the NBC evening news, they brought up the fact that before the shooter could even buy a gun, he had to apply for and receive an Illinois FOID (Firearms Owner ID) card which required a background check. Further, He applied at age 18 and his father had to sign the form confirming his approval. If he's 21 now, that means that his FOID was approved in 2019, the same year of his previous Police encounters. Yet, he received his FOID and it was never revoked.

JustEd is correct. Every gun has its own unique personality. What works perfectly in one gun, may not work at all in another of the same make and model. All you can really do is experiment with different ammo. First requirement is reliability. Second is accuracy. Most any quality self defense round will get the job done. With the current ammo situation, I'd suggest you buy a box or two and give them a try. If one is reliable, use that. At some later time when prices and availability are better, you can fine tune then. BTW: hardball has worked successfully for over 100 years now. Don't sell it short.

Back on topic. I saw in the news this morning that the shooter has confessed. He gave details and said it was planned in advance. While driving around after the shooting, he came across another celebration in Madison, Wis. He contemplated shooting it up with the 2nd rifle, but decided against it because he hadn't had time to research and plan for that. He had two previous encounters with LE. From the story: "The first incident was in April 2019, when police were called a week after a reported suicide attempt, and mental health professionals spoke to Crimo and his family. The second incident was in September 2019, when a family member reported that Crimo was threatening to “kill everyone.” Police responded and confiscated 16 knives, a dagger and a sword." Illinois has a red flag law, yet this whacko wasn't on the "No Buy" list. Therefore he purchased a total of 5 guns legally.

I'd be looking for a different FFL. Denials happen all the time and are usually nothing more than a minor error that gets sorted out fairly quickly. Any FFL that wants to charge you twice is a crook. I'm also in Bartlett, who is this guy you're dealing with? I'd like to know so I can avoid him.

Not just buzz words. MSM is actively using these words to promote fear and to push their own agenda.

I'd rather take a serious ass whuppin' than move. I moved for the last time 30 years ago. I plan to die right here where I am.

For the record, I don't like Daniel either and frankly wish he'd just move on. However, AFAIK he hasn't committed a ban worthy offence. He just pisses people off. OTOH, preaching to the choir gets old and boring. Its good to have an opposing viewpoint now and then. What does bother me is that when a thread goes completely off topic because people can't seem to get along with each other, Surly all of you have had to deal with someone you just infuriates the Hell outta ya, but there's nothing you can do about it. Think of Daniel like that and move on. Now can we please get back to the subject at hand?

Getting back to the original subject..... I just saw reports that the rifle was purchased legally. The shooter was dressed in women's clothing. Most likely to hide his many tattoos. He climbed down off the roof and blended into the crowd to make his escape. He walked to his Mother's house and took her car. PD put out info on shooter and vehicle. A good citizen saw and reported the car. PD made a traffic stop and shooter was taken into custody peacefully. A second rifle was found in the car. He may be crazy or just plain evil. But the shooter ain't stupid.

Cold patch asphalt. You can get it at most hardware stores.

Completely agree about the two piece guide rods. Those damned things are downright dangerous. I once bought a 1911 that had one, Shot it and when I field stripped it for cleaning, the rod was almost unscrewed. It didn't go back in the gun.
-
I bought the Mag-Pul version a couple of years ago. I've been happy with it. Now you just need to dress it up a little.
-
The full length guide rod is a un-necessary part that only complicates field striping of the gun. Changing to a standard guide rod is quick and simple. I've done it several times.

Three years ago Brazil elected a new President. One of his first acts was to greatly loosen the laws regarding private ownership of firearms. To date the homicide rate in that country has dropped 34%. So much for the "more guns, more crime" BS. Story here

I got this in the Guns America e-mail today. Dog the Bounty Hunter expresses the opinion that gun owners should be required to have a mental Health Card issued by a doctor and it should be renewed every two years. Stupid idea, I know. But he's now made this public and some antis may latch on to the idea. Story Here

That may be, but it does pop up in the Recent Topics list from time to time. Maybe if we keep posting, somebody will notice?

C'mon now. Surely there's somebody here will the skills to pull this off. Anybody?

Talk to the future neighbors before you buy. It would be a shame to spend a bunch of money only to have the neighbors call the Sheriff every time you light off a few rounds. Also check County zoning ordinances.

I don't plan to have any work done until I get estimates. What they are will be the deciding factor of if I file a claim.
