  1. Oh geez, the snowflakes get offended over anything. Give us a break. If Santa was smart, he'd up armor his sleigh and mount belt fed weapons.
  2. I've known for a long time the democrats were stupid and crazy. I thought the republicans had at least a bit of common sense. But after all that's happened since Covid came out, I now know I was dead wrong.
  3. Yeah, that statue was terrible and a disgrace to Forrest. However, the man deserved statues. Forrest was considered by both sides to be the greatest cavalry commander of the Civil War. There used to be a very good statue of him in Memphis. But the history haters had it removed several years ago. I've said it many times. The worst mistake you can make in the study of history is to judge the past by the standards of today.
  4. Most people don't know that sildenafil (Viagra) originally started out to be a heart medication. But during development researchers discovered this strange side effect it had. It was quickly decided that there were already plenty of heart medicines.
  5. A lot of folks use and like steel cased ammo. I'm not one of them. There are lots of stories out there about it doing lots of bad things to guns. Mostly connected to the varnish coating the chamber of the guns its used in causing extraction and ejection issues. Years ago I bought a case of Wolf steel cased .30 Carbine ammo because it was cheap and I didn't know better. Dadgum stuff broke the extractor in my rifle not once, but twice! I've never had any problems with brass cased ammo. I'll never use any steel cased ammo of any caliber again. But that's just me.
  6. Sounds like it would make things hard to forget.
  7. I have the Browning version. Absolutely wonderful rifle! Shoot It! You'll get a "kick" out of it.
  8. The Biden administration is trying hard to build a back door gun registration scheme. I've received several e-mails from various 2A groups about this. Apparently, being illegal doesn't bother them one bit.
  9. Sounds like long days behind a desk and a mountain of paperwork.
  10. This right here. ^^^^^^ Components are very hard to get right now and what is out there is priced outrageously. You'd be better off buying factory ammo.
  11. Of course, they're in the same profession.
  12. If what is being reported is true. I think the parents should be held accountable. However, involuntary manslaughter seems to be a bit of a stretch. I think the charge is more for show than actual reason. The state is trying to look tough.
  13. Nope. I keep telling you that the half cock notch would catch the hammer if the trigger is in the forward position. The trigger has to be pulled. Now if it were to fall off that table and land directly on the hammer with enough force to break parts, then it might fire. But that's highly improbable. The old, well known problem of a Colt SA going off if dropped is based on the hammer being fully forward. In that case the firing pin only has to travel a very short distance (maybe 1/4") for it to contact the primer and there's nothing to get in the way. For Baldwin's gun to go off, the trigger had to have been pulled OR the gun had very serious mechanical problems. Surely one of you guys has a Colt style single action. Try it and back me up here.
  14. Even if the sear did slip, the half cock notch should have caught the hammer if the trigger was at rest. That notch is much bigger than the sear and designed to stop the hammer fall unless the trigger is pulled. I, too, would very much like to have a competent gunsmith examine the gun and see what his report is.
  15. Contact local city/county building inspectors. Have them take a look. They'll tell you if it meets code or not. Then go from there.
  16. On a SA revolver, especially a Colt copy, there is no safety. The gun can fire if dropped or other hard strike to the back of the hammer. This is why there has always been the practice of carrying them with only 5 rounds and the hammer resting on an empty chamber. However, there has never been any claim of the gun falling or being hit. AFAIK only Ruger uses a transfer bar action. Baldwin was using a Pietta SA which is an exact copy of the Colt Single Action Army. The hammer has to be partially cocked to load or unload. This is the purpose of the half cock notch in the hammer. By setting the hammer in the half cock position, the cylinder is free to spin. The half cock engages with very little backward motion of the hammer. Maybe a 1/4 inch or so. if the hammer should slip before half cock, it shouldn't have enough power to fire a cartridge. If the hammer should slip at some point beyond half cock, the half cock notch should catch it if the trigger is at rest. But not if the trigger is pulled. There is a method called slip firing where the gun is fired by holding the trigger back, cocking the hammer and just letting the thumb slip off. Its been a while since I've owned a SA revolver. I don't think a hammer fall before half cock could set off a primer, but I can't absolutely swear to it. Any current Colt style SA owners care to offer their opinion? I didn't watch the interview. Did Baldwin say if his thumb slipped off the hammer at any time? I don't recall him saying so in the past. But again, it doesn't excuse him from not checking the gun himself.
  17. Anybody with even a basic understanding of single action revolvers knows that there are only a couple of ways Baldwin didn't pull the trigger on purpose. First is the gun is defective and the hammer either didn't lock or slipped the sear. Second would be if Baldwin already had the trigger pulled back with his finger on it but didn't realize it when he cocked the gun. Thereby slip firing the gun when he released the hammer. If his thumb had slipped while cocking, the half cock/loading notch should have caught the hammer. But no matter how it happened, the gun had to be manually cocked intentionally. And none of this excuses Baldwin of not checking the gun to begin with. Baldwin is trying hard to play the victim here. That ain't gonna fly.
  18. Sounds good. But as usual, I'm at the wrong end of the state.
  19. I spent 42 years turning wrenches. Mostly on trucks and heavy equipment. Its hard, dirty, physically demanding work. I'm well aware of the physical toll it takes on your body. I'm a bit of a rarity in my profession. I retired with my back in decent shape and all my fingers. Of course the rest of me is a wreck. I've lost count of how many times I've been in the hospital. Been cut on 8 times. Twice is was life threatening. But all in all, I came through it pretty well. Just don't get around as well as I used to. Damn! Ain't we a bunch of decrepit old farts!
