I got my first Handgun Permit back in 1992. Yep, that was before the statewide permits. I used to shoot IDPA. I think my shooting skills are about as good as they're gonna get for a decrepit old man. I'm too old to be running up and down ranges in classes with a bunch of young bucks. However, I could use a refresher on the rules and laws of concealed carry and self defense. I have neither the time nor patience to wade through all the current laws. I've considered taking the on-line course for the Concealed Handgun permit. But I don't need the certificate or particularly want to spend the money. Does anyone know of a source for the on-line course that's free? Other alternatives?

TN Permit Holders to be classed as LEOs?

While I seriously doubt these bills have a chance, it would be a great opportunity to add an exemption to the NICS check for a EHP holder when buying a firearm from a dealer. -
Baldwin shoots two on movie set, accidental misfire???
Grayfox54 replied to TennesseeCamper's topic in General Chat
In the 1980s an up and coming young actor, Jon-Erik Huxem, accidentally killed himself playing around with a .44 magnum loaded with blanks. -
That's the old .38/44 High Velocity load. Predecessor to the .357 magnum. It should only be used in strong, large frame guns. It won't blow up smaller framed guns, but it will accelerate and cause un-necessary wear. Plus its downright unpleasant to shoot in smaller guns.

My Dad was a big quail hunter. A good bird dog is a pleasure to watch work. Since coyotes crossed the Mississippi River 30 years or so ago. There haven't been any quail. No rabbits either.

Question about police parked on the side of the road at night

Attract attention so that people will slow down? Maybe to see if the driver is wearing a seat belt? That's quick, easy money for the city and runs up their ticket count. -

The first click happens within the first 1/4 " of hammer movement. At that point the spring does not have enough energy to fire the primer. There are several videos on You Tube that show this and directly prove Baldwin's claim is not only false, but impossible. The old empty chamber under the hammer is in the event that the gun is dropped. But it would have to land directly on the hammer with considerable force to fire a cartridge. -

Its a Colt style single action. Unless it has serious mechanical problems, No way it could go off without pulling the trigger. It may have a very light trigger which led to the 3 previous NDs, but the trigger has to be pulled. Sounds like hollywood BS to me. -
Thin barrel with a front sight. Definitely a 760.

A wonderful family heirloom. Load for it, shoot it and pass it along.

Ok, let me reword that. Where would we NOT be allowed to carry? -
TN Permit Holders to be classed as LEOs?

I keep hearing so much about cops being bad. Granted, a few are. Most aren't. As you know I worked as a mechanic for my city for 25 years. Cops drive patrol cars. So it was quite normal to have cops in and out of the shop on a daily basis. I got to know quite a few of them personally. I can tell you for a fact that the vast majority of our Police Officers are good, decent people who have just chosen a tough way to make a living. I know I couldn't do it. The few bad ones we've had over the years didn't last long. I'm sure its different in large cities with higher crime rates. I know Memphis is so desperate for officers that they've lowered their standards to rock bottom. Truth is they have a lot of complete idiots in uniform. But that doesn't mean that they're bad or crooked. They are trying to do the right thing. I still firmly believe that the vast majority of Police officers all over this country are good people. Its only the bad ones you hear about. -
My guy here on the West side of the state charges $30 including NICS. But he's semi-retired and just does transfers on the side. As I understand it, the common charge in the Memphis are runs about $40-50. I do know of one shop where they charge $100, but they admit right away that's because they don't want to do them.

TN Permit Holders to be classed as LEOs?
Grayfox54 replied to Grayfox54's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Please clarify. Exactly where would a EHP holder be able to carry that we currently can't? Would or would not that include privately owned and posted property? Specifically stores, restaurants, sports stadiums, concert halls and other public venues. -
TN Permit Holders to be classed as LEOs?

AH! And there's the rub. We are NOT LEOs. I have no desire to be a de facto LEO. I don't see how our 2nd Amendment rights can over rule a property owner's rights. Schools, government buildings and such, yes. But if a private property owner chooses to post their property, No. Their house, they make the rules. Frankly, I don't see any way in hell this will pass. -
I just learned about this on another forum I visit. It appears that two bills have been introduced in the State Legislature that would classify Enhanced Handgun Permit Holders as Law Enforcement Officers. As I understand it, the purpose is to remove some of the restrictions on where we can carry. Basically, EHP holders would be able to carry anywhere LE are allowed. While I like that idea, there also appears to be much confusion about it as well. Honestly I just don't see this as passing. Can anybody provide more info? Just what do these bills really mean? Permit Holders to be LEO

Good for you Capbyrd. The Scouts always need good MB counselors. The fact is that for most Boy Scouts, the only chance they ever get to go for Rifle or shotgun is at Summer Camp. I often did the classroom teaching. I don't know if the requirements have changed, but for the actual range shooting, the rifle or Shotgun merit badge counselor had to be an NRA Certified Instructor. Fortunately, for my troop, we knew one who was happy to help. That's why we could teach those merit badges on our own.

Justice Department sues Missouri over new gun law

Hang 'em at noon and let 'em swing until sundown. Let everybody get a good look at what happens when you stupidly take another life. -
During my time as a Boy Scout leader in the 90s, our troop did two special camping trips each year. One to earn the shotgun merit badge and one for rifle. It was always our policy that parents were always welcome to come along on any camping trip. On these two trips we often had just as many parents as boys. I'm not sure if anybody even still teaches these merit badges today.

Here's my 1943 Inland along with a few friends.

Aw, what the Hell. I'll post my tacti-cool Carbine. Its a 1943 Standard Products rifle. I had to replace the barrel a couple of years ago due to a cracked gas cylinder. The new barrel is a 1970s replacement. No longer being original I brought it into the 21st Century as a shooter. Don't worry, My 1943 Inland is just like Uncle Sam issued it.
