    Mauve

Not too bad, looks like it took some "grain", a little darker on the high spots. The dye is said to penetrate a bit so I would only rough it up a bit, if any, as too much sanding may distort the contours. So is mauve the color you used or is it what pink and what color you used turned into?
  2. Well, mother nature decided to smile, or grin, on me today, about 8ish I spot my first doe, but she is silhouetted on the ridge, with the road and some trailers behind her so no shot. A few minutes later I spot her, or a different doe, but this time she is traveling toward my hunting zone. So I put the scope on her to line up a clean shot when I spot a second deer further up. I thought it was a wee bit bigger so now I'm in a quandary, I'm hunting for a small doe but now am thinking maybe I should take the bigger one, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking maybe it's a buck. So they both move around me, they started at about my 7 o'clock and couldn't really get clean shot until they reached my 11:30 or so. By that time, I know there are no antlers on either one, and they're small, so now I will go for whichever gives me the best profile for a DRT attempt. Well, the "bigger" of the two is the one so I line up a neck shot and fire, down it goes. But it lands behind a big tree so no follow up shot which I thought it may need since it was kicking a bit. The other deer jumped and ran up the hill when I shot but circled around to check on the other one, giving me some real good angles...but, I was only after one more so even though I scoped her, and thought about it, I gave her a pass. So after all that, I get to the downed deer and it's a button buck, again. I don't know how you guys do it, but at the 100 yard distance, and 4 power, there was no way I could spot those buttons, heck, I can't even count points on bigger bucks most times. Not that I feel bad or anything, they taste great, but I would rather of harvested does instead of button bucks.
  3. I marked my property lines with orange flag tape just for that reason. My neighbors don't mind but I would rather be on the safe side seeing as there is an agent out here that will always take the extreme view on things.
  4. Yea, I got "bit" in the knee the first week of gun season when the saw spun on me. Went through two layers of my wrangler hunting jeans and a couple layers of my skin as well. Luckily it barely had any energy in the swing or it could of been worse, as it was it took over a week to heal.
  5. I'll be out tomorrow, sure hope they move early as I (well, the wife) have plans for most all weekend. Anyone see any signs of a late rut? Or are we just hoping the straglers come along?
  6. Still think they are good, the problem is that everyone caught up. Their number one selling point, at least to me was the lifetime warranty and that there was a Sears just about everywhere. Now most tools come with the same warranty and since they are all made in China, made in the USA isn't a selling point either.
  7. I got one of those from HF, it was cheap, about $20, but never used it. I was gifted an Alaskan saw mill too but haven't found a powerhead big enough to run it so haven't used that either but want to use it to make deer stands.
  8. Yea, pretty much. There are a few YouTube vids on doing magpul..well everything out there.
  9. Depending on the material, it may take a darker rit die like the magpul mags.
  10. So if they need the regular license, what the heck is the apprentice license for?
  11. Post a pic of your trigger group, sounds like maybe a spring or pin may be amiss.
  12. Hmm, wonder if it applies to standard 10/22s as well? This one was built in the early 80s or earlier and still a tack driver, so yes, a head shot was always the goal. Never knew the case differences though, and never had an issue with them. And as for the Jennings, I think the hotter stingers are what made it work better, the others would either not eject or double/misfeed, probably why it was relegated to snake duty with snake shot shells, only one needed usually.
  13. Really? Back in the mid 80's me and my 10/22 wore out the fox squirrels with them. I don't recall them being any better or worse than what ever bulk .22 I happened to get. I do recall them being the only rounds that my POS Jenning would eat consistently though.
  14. They won't use snares or leg holds, probably a large Have a Heart trap like this one. But yes, they will probably relocate it unless they have a policy against coyotes.
  15. Yup, I did a self analysis and wandered back to this side of the line. I seen where the temp was going to be at 20deg overnight and thought I'd be stupid to get out in that...so I packed up and left. But the battery in the travel trailer was fully charged, propane bottles nearly full and at least two full bottles for the buddy heater so figured this would be a good field test. Turned up the thermostat before I left the house to warm up the TT , when I got here it looked level enough so just dropped the stabilizers, which go down fast with the drill attachment. Woke to a balmy 20deg outside but a cozy 74deg inside, a quick cup of joe and out to the stand I go. Well, with no heat the stand was 20deg inside but soon, bout 10 minutes, rose to 30 and now just over an hour later it sits at 40, and that's about where the bottle I left in the buddy heater started to flutter. I can still see my breath but relatively speaking it feels comfortable. Oh yea, so now to the deer. I have a personal belief that if I see deer on my way in I may be SOL, which I did, but I jumped a couple somethings getting to my stand and my solunar page on the Huntstand app says there's a decent chance of deer movement so I'm not counting myself out yet.
  16. Yea, a bit lost here too. So you get a gun from a friend for $500 he says will buy it back..doesnt so you sell for $500 to a member who borrows $ from a neighbor (?). Member changes (or loses)his mind, brings it back with pink grips and a missing screw so you give him $400 for it. If I have this right, I would buy a screw and keep it as is. First, imagine the humiliation for a crook being stopped or shot by a pink gun, then imagine the possibilities of what you can do with the spare c note.
  17. Apparently they sold out again but are taking orders for a January delivery. They have raised 50k so far, not too shabby, but is just a drop in the bucket for what will be needed I fear.
  18. I have a glass range top at the house but my travel trailer has a gas range so I will try both and see how well it works on both. The glass gets pretty hot, even though the entire surface is not contacting the glass it should still have enough contact to heat the pan up. My only concern is scratching up, or breaking , the glass. But I figure as long as the skillet doesn't get dropped or moved around a lot it should be ok.
  19. Just in case you were thinking of getting one of these, great cause and a good collectible to boot. These folks can probably use all the help they can get. http://shop.lodgemfg.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=2A9FEB410AC2488F8DD740AB1C8F8D00
  20. Chile Dip Serves 2-4 2lb Ground Venison Pinch of Sea Salt Pinch Garlic powder (adjust to taste) Half pinch Cumin 2-4 slices of mid size yellow onion (around the middle), finely chopped 3 jalapeños, finely chopped; adjust for heat 1 can of stewed tomatoes, again finely chopped Brown venison in skillet add onions and jalapeño and simmer until onions go clear. Add tomatoes and 1/4 to 1/2 can of water, sprinkle spices a little at a time tasting as you go. You want it a bit on the drier side, but not too dry, so add water slowly. Serve with chips as a dip, or with flour tortillas in a burrito.
  21. If deep in the woods, my RBH .44 mag is by my side along with a meticulously maintained rifle in an appropriate caliber for the game I seek. . But if deep in da hood, I carry my G23. and those 13 rounds are only to get me to my 10.5" 300Blk AR.
  22. That's easy, if you don't have any short comings to make up for, get a .40.
  23. I think he is right, I think we should look to the 2nd ammendment to help with this problem. But instead of keeping us law abiding citizens from being able to react to these situations, how about you let us help take these guys down when they decide to shoot, stab or run a bunch of people over. How did the shooting at the draw mohammed, little m intended, event work out, how about the Ohio incident, or the...well, you get the picture.
  24. More than likely he had something else going on, the incident just put him over the top. His version of having a bad day at work and coming home to kick the dog.
  25. I am actually pretty setup in my condo/stand. I insulated the inside with reflectix insulation on the bottom 4' ish, and a black closed cell foam on the upper portion. With my little buddy heater it is warm and cozy in there. Just wish the deer were more accommodating to my needs
