  1. Good info here.  I'll be trying to get some turnips and cow peas planted in the next week or so, hopefully not too late in the season.
  2. The camera is about 6', maybe slightly less.   Yeah, been seeing lots of tracks there this summer so I figured I'd move one of the cameras to see what showed up.  Nice thing is it's less than 100 yards to the cabin.  I'm thinking the young one triggered the camera and got out of the range of the camera when mama moved in.   Going to my hunting property this weekend and I'm changing all my cameras to video.
  3. Thanks for the video, very helpful Caught this doe on one of my cameras.
  4. That dad is awesome.  Would love to do that for my kids, but lack the time, money and skill set to get it all done.  Wonder how much he'd charge to build me one?
  5. That was great.   Loved how many of the women didn't seem to care, but the guys were like "Let's get out of here!"
  6. Well, last time I went to visit my Dr at Baptist in Memphis, the usual "no firearms" posting on the door was gone, and has been since my last visit 6 months ago.   This was not the hospital itself, but the Dr offices that are next to the actual hospital, the "Medical Plaza's".
  7. here is a link to when i started refinishing the rifle. https://www.dropbox.com/s/cn5fiwdtkkclrcx/2012-04-21_19.01.25.jpg I'll have to take a current picture as I completed the restoration over a year ago but never took any pictures of it.
  8. yes, i have shot it, and I am starting to reload for it, the rounds are expensive.   I did have to get some work done to it before i could shoot it though.   The screw holding the lever in was a bent nail, the firing pins appeared to be 2 nails, missing screws and it needed a new magazine tube spring.   I also stripped and re-blued it.  Someone in the past painted it black (appeared to be spray paint).  Now that was  a fun job.   Most expensive fix, was getting the barrel re-lined.  The original lining was either worn out or old corrosive ammo was used and it wasn't cleaned properly.  The barrel was so far gone that a bullet dropped down it would travel all but the last 2-3 inches without resistance.   All in all, it's a good part of my family history that I will thankfully pass down to my son (actually, after my father passed my mom gave it to my son but he was just a few months old at the time).
  9. I have a Marlin that's chambered in .25-20.   The rifle was my great aunt's.   I've been told that the rifle took many a deer to put food on the table, but I'm suspect due to the velocity and size of the round.  Not saying it didn't happen, but stories due tend to get exaggerated over the years.
  10. I have one (2 trash cans tied together).  No pics but this is what I based the build on. http://www.familyhandyman.com/smart-homeowner/how-to-build-a-rain-barrel/view-all   Had no problem running a soaker hose on it, just had to pull the flow restrictor out of the hose.   The difference I did from what the article was that I used floor drains on the bottom of the barrels.  The use of the union joints allows me to expand/reduce the system as needed (still has to be drained).
  11. Well, I would imagine that AZ (and the other places that don't change the time) has the same problem, yet they've managed to work it out.
  12. Isn't that what kids/grand-kids are for?   Here make yourself useful, spin this thing around until my phone is fully charged!
  13. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2014/feb/17/no-more-falling-back-tennessee-lawmaker-wants-make/   Would you support TN opting out of the spring/fall time change and remain fixed on one time?  I personally would, I don't understand the need to adjust the time in the fall/spring.  All that accomplishes is a messed up schedule for my kids and myself.   I would like to see the nation as a whole get rid of the time change, but, hey one state at a time isn't bad.
  14. I have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-Smartphones-built-flashlight/dp/B0013G8PTS/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t Works ok, can charge pretty much anything that has a USB charge cable. I re-charge this by plugging it into the 12vdc jack in a vehicle, or off of any USB port on a pc/laptop. The newtrent battery charger has a laser light (why, I don't know, entertain cats and dogs maybe) and a small LED light. I use it while dry camping to keep my phone and my wifes phones charged.
  15. WOW, this guy is a total jerk.   I've read conflicting reports as well.  One article said "the helmet was tossed into the air", another said "the helmet was thrown".    But how hard do you have to get hit to damage the tendon.   Oh, and this is a little league game, winning run, someone, somewhere has video of it.       If the jerks suit is tossed out, and I hope it is, I hope he's sued for the legal costs of defending such a frivolous charge.   If the helmet was thrown at him in an attempt to do harm, I could see the suit and possible criminal charges, but it wasn't.
  16. I'd help you out but I still lean on my FIL for help on most things that deal with hunting.
  17. Man, i'm torn.  Last weekend to hunt and my hunting partner is down with the flu and my brother in law has to work.  Trying to decide if I want to head out in the morning and try to get the ones that got away earlier in the season.   sigh, I'll prolly head out, I can work on the cabin if I don't see anything in the morning.
  18. WOW, what a great way to put the 3-d printing tech to use!
  19. This is the 2nd year hunting some property (20 acres) near Sardis, TN.  Last year we saw 2 does in the field as we pulled up the drive.     This year my FIL saw 2 deer from his stand, they didn't stop long enough to get a shot, dang it. About 3:30 sunday, sitting in my stand had a small buck come into view.  Waited, patiently while it meandered around in front of me.  Got my shot off but went low.  Oh well, the deer are there, I'll be back out next weekend, praying I get something then.   Got to admit, that this was only the 2nd time in my life I've shot at a deer. The first time was prolly back in '91.   Over the summer got lots of pics of does on my trail cameras, trying to figure out where put my stands and food plots.
  20. well, it's the "tractor" only part and they've fitted it with lights and sirens.  My guess is if you floor to get away the'll have traditional squad cars near by to get you and tack on a few extra tickets.
  21. So somehow officers of the state, police, etc. are better drivers than the rest of us servants and are exempt from the law.   I honestly don't see the need to make "texting" while driving "illegal".  It's called distracted driving, if you cause an accident while distracted your fault.   I don't know if it passed, but a year or so ago there was a big push to make it illegal to let your little dog ride on your lap while driving.  really?
  22. http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/23838525/highway-patrol-officers-drive-semi-trucks-to-catch-drivers-texting#axzz2jIWuxblh     Guess using a SUV just won't cut it, gotta burn lots of diesel to catch those bad drivers.
  23. all great info.  I can as well, but I don't produce enough in the garden to really have much to can, especially tomatos.  So we go the local farmers market (at the agricenter) and ask the vendors for the "canning tomatos".  We can usually get a big box full of tomatos for about $7.00.  Now these tomatos are brused, busted and sometimes look really bad, overripe, etc.   Last time we went I think we spent around $30.00 for 95lbs of tomatos.  Spent the rest of the day juicing and canning them.  Need to make one more trip to the FM like that to be set for the winter.
  24. I'm in for one, two possibly depending on the price.   Thanks
