  1. A while back my mom was big into getting our family history, both sides of the family hers and my dads.   She put it in a binder and gave the info to her kids, now I'm looking to expand and update it.   She managed to go back to 1815 on my dads side and about 1834 on her side.   I've thought about using ancesotry.com to expand it more, but just don't know if I want t pay for it righ tnow.   Nice thing is, is that when she was doing this she got old photos from family members - some of them on the metal plates, and had a setup where she could use her 35mm camera and take a photo of the photo.  Turned out pretty good.   Thinking of family history, anyone know of a place, either in the Memphis or Knoxville area, to have old, OLD, 8mm film transferred to digital?  We have some old home movies from when my dad was in the navy that is on 8mm and the film is starting to degrad to the point we can't watch it.  Now that my dad has passed, this is one of the few ways we remember him.   Thanks
  2. in it, my daughter could use a new gun :)
  3. That is a lousy excuse for not voting.  Most areas have "early" voting that have hours that extend past most working hours.  Additionally, I heard one person at work say "they couldn't get off on voting to vote".  Isn't there a law that says employers must accommodate someone that is voting in a state or federal election?   And we will get change, it may not be what the majority of the population wants, but it will happen because the minority of the population will get out there and vote and do what it takes (even voting 3 or 4 times).
  4. yes, waste of a good firearm.  Along with his other videos, waste of time and ammo (and sometimes guns).
  5. WOW, just WOW.   Watched the video, just love it when someone's "Facts" are proved incorrect and their response is "I don't believe it".
  6. An idea for flash freezing, if you don't have access to dry ice.  Spread the food out in a single layer on a cookie sheet, then put that in your deep freezer.  I've done this when I didn't have enough to justify going to Kroger to get some dry ice.   Since my garden isn't big enough to get a lot to can from, I supplement by going to the farmers market.  Picked up 138lbs of tomatoes for $32.00 - i now have 13 qts and 11 pints of tomato sauce (11 pints are pee-seasoned).   We also get items from a CSA, not enough each week to can/preserve so we just freeze and build up the supply.
  7. I know of 2 that work great.  Mine and a buddy of mine both have the mosquito.  I had a couple of jams within' the first 100 rounds, and only a handful of malfuctions (FTF,FTE) since.   Mine works with CCI mini mags, Federal Bulk and Rem. Golden.   My only big complaint is the hard trigger pull, even in single action.
  8. I picked up some small rifle primers at BPS in Memphis last night.  Also got 1lb of powder so now I can start loading my empty .25-20's woo hoo
  9. Looks like this happened recently in Lakeland, TN http://wreg.com/2013/06/19/lakeland-family-target-of-dangerous-swatting-prank/
  10. Looks like it's this weekend the 8th & 9th June 8-9, 2013 Southaven, MS B&B Gun Shows - Southaven, MS  Hours: Saturday 9am - 5pm, Sunday 10am - 4pm Presented by B&B Gun Shows, Inc (Russell Brown) 662-209-6266   and from David's website: Jun 8-9 Knoxville, TN  Chihlowee Park 2201 Magnolia Ave. Southaven, MS Southaven Arena 7360 Highway 51
  11. Yeah, they are upping the property tax rate because the value of the homes have dropped.  For example when I got my property appraisal a while back my home when from $99k to $75k.  And considering homes in my neighborhood that are comparable to mine are selling for less than $50k, I'm screwed.
  12. I bought one several years ago.  I got a Whites, don't recall the model number.  It has been great.  I'm pretty sure it paid for itself after a couple of trips to campgrounds and parks.  Almost always find coins by swings and benches. At one campground I left with $75.00 in coins - more than paid for fees for the camping :)   Still waiting for the day I find a ring that's actually worth something
  13. I try to do the work myself, and I usually can.  But a few years ago the AC compressor went out on the wife's van.  I had neither the time or desire to fix it.  Got a couple quotes from "chain" stores, then called a local shop in Collierville, came in around the same price as the chain guys so I decided to keep the money local.   When I went in to pay, I started counting out 100 dollar bills.  The owner stopped me short of the total (by a little more than $200) and said "That's close enough, here are your keys and you better get a sweater cause that AC is COLD!  Have a great day!"   And I did cause after that cash discount the bill came in under everyone else and came close to what it would have cost me in parts and material alone.
  14.   Really, Just bought a rifle from there on Saturday.  After paying for it at the gun counter, I walked it up, all by myself, to the customer service counter where they removed the trigger lock, then it was out the door.   The only time BPS expects you to "check your weapon" at CS is when you are bringing it in for work, at least that's the way it is at the Memphis store.
  15. I would be in for one, possibly 2 depending on the timing of the order placement.
  16. TN does not have "registration" so nothing to do there.  If you mean you want to be able to purchase IN TN using your TN address information, I think technically you can, but many FFL's will only go by what's on your "valid" ID, as in you MS drivers license.   Here is the 4473 text on state of residence:
  17. As it was said, most of the "denials" get overturned in a day or so.  When I worked at a gun store a few years ago I only recall one or 2 customers who were denied and didn't get it overturned on appeal.    I did refuse a few sales to people who answered "incorrectly" on the 4473.  Sorry, one chance and you're done, sale refused.    One one young man, who appeared to be a fine, gentleman with his pants around his waist, wife beater t-shirt, gold teeth, tats and branding all over his arms, answer yes to "Are you a fugitive from justice?"   He said he didn't know was a "fugitive" was so he guessed at the answer.  Sorry, no sale to you.   Does this prevent them from coming back to another employee of the store, or going to another gun store?  nope.     And how will you decide that the "denied" response should be dealt with legally?
  18. Yup, got my tomatoes and peppers started along with a few other garden items.   I get my soil warmed by putting a bit a black plastic over the bed, which I'll be doing that this weekend.  I generally move plants to the garden mid to late March.  Figure I get a good 6-8 weeks of growth in house before moving them to the garden.   Ted, I have 2 32 gallon trash cans plumbed together, got my plans here: http://www.familyhandyman.com/DIY-Projects/Green-Home/Saving-Water/how-to-build-a-rain-barrel/View-All#step1
  19. Well, I might have to stop by this weekend.     What time?  I might be able to help, be nice to meet more people from the forum.
  20. Congrats! Going out tonight to my property for one more weekend of hunting. Hoping one of us (will be with my Father-in-law and Brother-in-law) get's something.
  21. In my opinion, Dr.'s are only the "practice" of treating the symptoms, not the problem.  I too have battled high triglycerides, cholesterol, and weight.  My thyroid Dr. kept saying that I needed to lose some weight, but I got a canned response of "eat better and workout" when I asked how.  Then I explained I did eat better, and worked out 5 days a week for 3 months, and lost nothing.  VERY FRUSTRATING.   Good luck with your new lifestyle and the exercise.
  22. Guess I don't see the need to wait.  Find a range that doesn't need you to get a note from your doc.  My wife WORKED at a range while pregnant.  Talked to the DR. and she said no problem.  Wash your hands frequent, where a dust mask when needed.  The little bit of time on the range should not be an issue.  Wash your hands immediately after the range time.   My son is just fine, no hearing loss (unless you count the selective hearing he has when we tell him to clean his room or be nice to his sister), no mental problems (again, don't ask sister she'll tell you otherwise).
