  1. Several years ago when I was considering the various mortgage options available at the time, I discovered that one lender offering the bi-weekly payment schedule would hold the "half payment" (for lack of a better term) or 1st payment of the month in ESCROW until the full amount was available to be applied against the balance owed.  This in essence did not reduce the principal balance every 15 days or 2x/month as the payment schedule would indicate.  The lender just got the $$ early, invested it in some manner and got use of the money for FREE.  Just verify how and when the bi-weekly payments are actually handled & applied at that lender.
  2. I think it is in a persons best interest to have some type of debt at all times, like a small car loan or mortgage.  Not anything that causes hardship in makin those payments tho. Having a current/active credit history is invaluable when things get ugly in the financial world, whether housing loans or car loans, etc., and they can get ugly quickly.  If you don't need any $$ right now or in the near future, what about 3 yrs from now (can't tell can you) but if you don't owe anything now, you'll have "old" credit history and the lenders don't necessarily like that so they may not loan the $$ you need.  Go borrow $5000 on a 90-180 day note, buy a CD with the proceeds, and when the note comes due, (the CD is tied to the loan maturity date), redeem the CD and pay it off.  You'll owe a few more $$ in interest on the loan than you'll get from the CD, but the lender reports that you borrowed $5000 and paid back $5000 timely.  And that is what you need.  Credit cards, pay 'em off in full every month, take advantage of any cash back options available but 18+% on CC balances is a horrible option for buying something on time.   If you have a large mortgage, pay extra on it to get the principal balance down (as much as you can w/o making life uncomfortable) until it gets down to a more reasonable amount (your opinion here) and then re-evaluate the situation.  Maybe re-finance at a lower rate if possible due to good credit history and no closing costs opportunities being offered, etc. or just start making the required amounts per the original loan documents.     Take advantage of any IRA options at work, and contribute enough to get the maximum matching contribution from the company.  That's free $$, so if the company will match your contributions up to say 3%, your 3% + their 3% equals 6% savings.  If you can afford to contribute more, that's great, but take advantage of the free $$ from the company.     If you have $$ left over after all of this, you're doing great, enjoy life.
  3. Contact some of the trust or investment advisor depts at the local banks.  They should be able to provide you a list of estate planning attorneys they have dealt with and possibly point you to a good one for a reasonable fee.  GL
  4. Since gas prices are a lot lower than in recent history, it's a good time to bring it up again. Politics as usual.
  5. I was thinking she might put too much of her "own spin" on it but it was a very good performance IMO.  I'm not a fan of her, but she has a voice.
  6. I'm interested in seeing 'em burn some of my $$.
  7. Tip of the hat to anyone who even attempts one of these.  How long of a "rest" period would you need to steady yourself to even shoot at targets, especially after 6k or so.  I would need a "rest" period after 50yds.   :biglol:   This reminds me of one of those newer endurance races I've seen on TV a couple times.
  8. Pretty cool, guy was pretty smart to accomplish that.
  9. I saw that thread as well yesterday.  Cool item but looks pretty big.
  10. I saw a news clip on the national news last night about this.  Frustrating I'm sure.
  11. been working on it slowly as suggested and making progress on removing the surface rust.  Thanks .
  12. Problem I have is my mind still "thinks" it is still attached to a 30 y/o body, and my body does the ROFL thing pretty much daily.  Just walking the dog can bring about a new pain at times.   :dropjaw:
  13.   Don't ya just love nosy neighbors.  LOL
  14. I would be interested in learning about yote hunting as well.  Would be another newb, I know how to ask lots of questions.  LOL
  15. I'm 60 now, and have never liked heavy recoil, rifle or handgun, causes me to flinch after just a few rounds.  I avoid shotguns as well.  I shoot +P in my 357 when I do shoot it, and 223 is enough for me, maybe 243.  Getting older is not for sissies.  LOL
  16. Thanks for the suggestions, and what does the brown paper bag do?  is the rougher surface of the paper bag the "sandpaper" so to speak in this example??
  17. Searched and didn't find anything relating to matt black finishes.  Have a 25 y/o Luppy Vari x3, and the related scope rings both in matt black.  Noticed a small spot of surface rust on the top half of the mounting ring, what is a good way to remove the surface rust on the mounting ring, none on the scope.  TIA
  18. Welcome to TN, Cleveland is a sea of orange as I lived there for a few years.  Blue   t shirts are good for cleaning guns and cars, changing the oil in the lawnmower, etc.
  19. I call 'em the rust years, not golden yrs.
  20. I've used one of the larger one's on a 20# tank in the shed at times when working on the boat, about the time I got done "piddling" with the boat, it got warm in the shed.  LOL
  21. Thanks for the additional info guys.
  22. Not much reaction time when your bike's front tire is 10' or less behind the rear wheel/bike in front of you.  I refused to ride side x side even with people I rode with on a regular basis.  Side x side in tight formation with people I don't know, no thanks.  I agree on the helmet, you decide.  I used to argue and fuss about seat belts but have gotten use to them, and use them now.  Still don't like 'em, but I use 'em.
  23.   I read the application/membership stuff on their website, and I got the impression they "preferred" or wanted you to belong to one of the named organizations, and you needed a sponsor.  Wasn't real clear on the 1st year probation statement tho.  I understand the "safety" issue, but seems like the club would sponsor that, or have one of their own safety courses that would be beneficial for all members, whether new to the shooting world, or just getting back into it (like me), or someone just wants a refresher course because it's been a long time since the last one.
