We felt it out in Powell... Ya could feel the shake, not unlike a quarry blast wave, for a couple of seconds. Short n travelling fast. leroy ...

Shot a 458 Winchester mag Ruger #1 Tropical ( mine ). Five hundred grain solids. Offhand, iron sights. Headache after the second shot. Did it as a " community service " as a warning to any rogue elephants ( Old Diamond wuz still around then ). He wuz a good boy. Stayed right until his dad passing. I hated to see him go. I like the designs ya put up. The problem with holsters and gun shows is everybody is looking for something for nothin. I used ta hunt used holsters at gun shows and wuz ruthless about buying em at the lowest price I could negotiate. I would buy only old time top of the line stuff. That said: I think the custom leather business is a good gig if ya make a great product. Vegetable tanned leather, good designs, excellent finishing are what make good holsters and that ain't cheap. I would tend to build up a clientele and build on a first come, first served basis ALA the Simply Rugged Holsters guys. some food for thought ... leroy.

Shooting down drones over your property!
leroy replied to 221 Fireball's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The whole drone thing is interesting... I'm satisfied there is some readily available jamming equipment out there that can probably be homemade by any hard core ham radio or electronics tec... The camera drones most people have are line of sight or near line of sight controlled. When they loose their signal, they go home or land... I'm satisfied that some enterprising souls will market an " anti drone " property protection system n make money; alternately, they can just show up as needed ALA " Ghost Busters " ... The " shooting em down idea " is great because it's bombastic, all American , individualistic, n fun ta think about; but as I remember, you don't own the space above your place, the Gubt does... That's the problem... Shoot a drone, win a prize unless the Gubt says it's ok, which they most likely ain't gonna do. Ya could catch em with a net if they get too close n confiscate em... I can't wait ta see how this all plays out... In the mean time, my riot is loaded up with some high brass turkey loads, just in case it's deemed an " enemy attack " drone has been launched against the ole homestead.. I ain't saying what's gonna happen, but, when the time comes, the affected machines and other beings will know. watch the skies ... leroy. -
I always loved to see these old pistols ( and all firearms ) get a new " touch up "... It's great...There used ta be quite a market for this sort of " refresh "... I worked with a guy that had sent his beloved Browning Diana Grade 20 ga field gun back to Browning not once, but two times. He loved his old bird gun that much... I'm sure a son or grandson is treasuring it now. rememberin leroy..

HEHEHE... We used that " rule of thumb " in the old days to torque high strength bridge bolts... ASTM A325 N ASTM A 490s. They were at least 7/8 diameter. The extra half turn stretched the bolts . I wouldn't apply this " rule " to small stuff... leroy .

Some things to think about from an old structural engineer who used to spend his time n make money designing connections in structures... 1. The slide cut must be good and provide a shelf at both the front and back of the slide cut to help transfer the recoil forces from the slide to the optic. Snug is your friend here... Sloppy cuts are not. The snugness here allows for a bearing surface between your optic base and the shelf of the cut. It decreases the " shear " load on the mounting screws. I would also consider using some blue thread locker at the cut-optic base interface to help with locking the optic into the cut.. 2. The size and strength of your fasteners must be a known quantity. I would buy " real " screws for this and ensure they were guaranteed as to size n specification. I wouldn't trust a bunch of screws packed with an Amazon Chinese no name optic.. 3. Install and torque the screws to the required torque with an appropriate torque tool... Not a guess, not a feeling. 4. Common sense. These screws are tiny, and you can, Indeed, break em in assembly by over tightening em... Just don't. 5. I would clean the screw threads ( both holes n screws ) with alcohol to remove any oils n apply purple screwlocker. Ya can break it loose if ya need to. food for thought . Engineer leroy... I think the " High End AR " thing wuz a thing invented by the " high end " builders to harvest more dollars thru either trickery or to lure the " Pride in Ownership " crowd in ta harvest their dollars. It's the same thing with the high end 1911 builders/sellers. An AR is an assemblage of parts. If the parts are good and the assembly is good, the weapon is good --- warfare good... I build all my ARs. The heart of em is the barrel n trigger group. Everything else is fluff n hype other than the bolt carrier n bolt... Food for thought. leroy..

What range bag are you guys using?
leroy replied to Thursty's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Go to eBay and search for TIMBUK2 messenger bags. They are hipster bags and are extremely well made and extremely cheap if ya watch. I use em for everything. The " hipsters " are evidently suckers for " the next new thing ", and the bags seem to wind up slightly used to unused in consignment shops. They are made of cordura and will hold more than ya can carry. Look for the " used " bags. That said, if ya like a " traditional " bag, ya can't beat Savior Equipment for the price ... bargain huntin leroy, the TIMBUK2 bag man... -
Got his Brother in 300 win mag ... Generally good for about 1/2 MOA. These guns are, in fact, the old " top of the line " of the turnbolt era. These are excellent rifles n easy to re- barrel... GLWS... leroy...

Red... Got his older brother in the safe. Model 12 solid frame 18 inch riot... Sitting next to 2 model 97s -- both riots; one flaming bomb marked, the other police marked. Browning BPS ( what the model 12 should have evolved into ) 18 inch riot by the bed . I confess to being a Winchester pump gun riot junkie... leroy...
