  1. Go to the Dell refurbished website and pick one out...   leroy
  2. Tercel.... The .356 bullets are usually cast bullets for 9mm... It's not unusual to have cast bullets a thousands or two oversize... Lots of 38 specials shoot .357 jacketed bullets and .358 cast... As to the .356 jacketed bullet thing; they are, indeed, for the 38 super....  I've shot a bunch of .357 in supers (...140 grain...) in the old days....   Hope this helps a bit.... leroy
  3. Ya gotta admire the style... This is what i call trollin for 'the low hangin fruit"....   HEHEHE... smilin leroy....
  4. Bersa... Little guns carry good in a horizontal holster setup like ya like... A big gun will carry best in a vertical holster... Buy a Bianchi leather... Ya cant go wrong if ya like a shoulder holster (...i've got to where i dont...)...   leroy
  5.   Grand... One of the things that i think is happening now, is that more and more of the political class is gettin worried about keeping these cushy jobs... The populist movement with more and more people gettin sicker and sicker of the inaction of polititians will eventually force them to action...   There will be ignoramous and overbearing holdouts like McCain, and, to a lesser extent, people like Corker and Alexander who will be dragged along... Look at the turnaround in Alexander's behavior; and the turnaround in McConnell's behavior... They dont do all we think they should; but they cant get by with doing nothing... I think that is a good thing....   Here's hopin.... leroy
  6. I think it means that the supremes are backing the congress in the corner, and forcing them to do their jobs... Congress has the power of the purse and can turn off any action any agency takes by turning off the dollars to it... That action is always based on public outcry...   leroy
  7. This is good news; but i cant help but wonder why they tried this to begin with... The Supremes have ruled that banning ammunition is tantamount to banning guns which is an infringement on the Second Amendment, pure and simple... It may have been red meet for the anti-gunners... It gives the great obama cover... He can say " i tried, similarly to the AR15 thing..."...     My guess is what really turned this one off was the letter from the great majority of the House of Representatives plus 52 Senators... The BATF wuz afraid that they would turn the money off for enforcing this stuff...   leroy
  8. Food for the "children" man...      leroy
  9. All... This may not sit too well with some of the younger folks here; but i've found it to be true... There aint no "budget' percision rifles... No matter who says so...   There are three real important parts to a precision turnbolt rifle.... The barrel, the trigger, and the sights... The 700 action is a good one, and is the basis for remington's target gun, the great 40X...   ....To use a 700 action, the action needs to be trued up and the bolt face squared with the threads on the action; something a good gunsmith can do... This action will do just as good as the $1000 plus fancy actions...   ....Buy the best barrel ya can afford from a custom barrel maker ya like... Pick the barrel contour and twist rate for the bullet ya intend to shoot; and have someone install and headspace it that knows what he is doin...   ....Buy a good stock that ya like and bed the rifle, letting the barrel float ahead of the action...   ....Buy a good trigger you like and have someone install it that knows what he is doin...   ....Lastly, and most painfully; buy the best scope you can afford... Remember this, the difference between a junk scope and a real good scope is the ability to return to zero ever time ya pull the trigger; and the hard kickers will reduce 'em to junk peretty quickly...   If ya talk to any of the long range guys; they are gonna tell ya that ya need a real good scope; and that equates to dollars; probably as many dollars as the rifle build... The hard kickers (...30-06 and up to the belted magnums...) will destroy a so-so scope in due time... The internals just aint good enough to stand the recoil forces... There are lots of Leupolds out there being used that have made the trip to the custom scope mechanics to beef up the internals...   ....Before i did anything, i would spend some time at a long range shoot and talk to the competitors RE; scopes...  They have changed a lot since i wuz shootin...   It's been a long time since i shot the hard kickers... We were using Redfield 3200's, fixed power Leuopolds, and Unertl outside adjustment scopes then... Then, like now, the scopes cost about as much as the rifle...   leroy

    Which 380?

I'll join the Sig 238 chorus... They are a great little pistola... I've carried mine every day for the last 4 years or so in a D.M Bullard roughout pocket holster, either in my front pocket or in a coat or vest pocket... It's flat and reasonably light... It's reliable and dead accurate... Exactly what a pocket pistol should be...   Havin said all that, i would recommend handling the pistols ya think ya might like and making the choice based on handling and shooting... I  'like' the Sig 238, Sig 232, Walther PPK, Bersa Thunderer, Glock 42, Kahr 380, S & W 380... They are all great choices... The trick is to find one ya like and will carry all the time...   Dont leave home without 'em... leroy
  11. An old Norwegan copy of a 1911... The first 1911 i ever owned....   leroy
  12. Seez... Great picture.... I love my old D80 too... The biggest advance i can see in the "newer generation' digitals is the low light performance... Outside, in the bright sun, the ole D80 cant be beat.... leroy PS--- I like the "prime" lenses too... A hold over from the film camera days... Primes are sharper, no matter what ya give for a zoom... I zoom with my feet and crop as needed...
  13. Nikon D3100 ta see if ya like digital (...i predict ya will...)... It will have the same look, feel, and controls as a film 35... (...we're old F3HP shooters...)....We bought one used with a kit lens at Adorama for $349.00 refurbished... Same warranty as a new camera... Crop sensor, 24 megapixl... Shoots great nite shots and out of this world daylight shots...    Check this out: https://www.flickr.com/photos/125458538@N04/14838805233/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/125458538@N04/14632334718/in/photostream/   Here's a day shot with my beloved D80, that is now an "antique"... Ya can buy them a KEH camera for near nothin...   Hope this helps... leroy   https://www.flickr.com/photos/125458538@N04/16171697008/in/photostream/
  14. I wouldn't worry too much... I've been to Dover and worked with folks from there... I think the natives can handle most any problem that crops up... Same with Shelbyville...  I ain't too worried about "terrorist training camps"... They can "train" all the want... It's the doin that will bring problems...   Folks, we can't say that we are Americans and say we believe in the Constitution and be for suspending and freedoms for some folks we are suspect of...     leroy
  15. Check around here....   http://kershawguy.com/   Ya cant beat him... leroy
  16. Tercel... Ive used lots of denatured alcohol (...methanol from the home depot or lowes paint department...)... jonathon's idea to use One Shot is a good one.....   leroy
  17. Greg.... Think :  "Hi-Power".... Find an older one that was carefully used and lovingly cared for.... I didn't do that 40 or so years ago, and im sorry; i wuz in my anit-9 mm stage then...Thought a 9 mm wuz almost as good as a 38 special, so i bought Smiths instead,.. I got a buddy with two of them that would turn loose of his children before his hi-powers (...of course the children are grown now...)...     leroy
  18. Looks good... i like the darkening on the tan leather that the neatsfoot gives...   leroy
  19. Great little pistol....I'm with Gray on this... I would guess thinner checkered walnut grips were correct, but i dont know for sure...    Great find... leroy
  20.   Don't take this personal bro; but if ya don't want folks to look at ya funny or to laugh don't look funny... I ain't stereotypin ya; i don't know ya other than by your posts in this community...   You can look any way ya want... I can laugh or be polite at first meeting... You have the same option...     You may be the best manager ever, and have success in your profession; but i can assure you that in some professions, how you look is important... I retired from a very responsible job in engineering and project management in 2006... None of the people i worked with or interacted with; be they engineering, construction management, operations, legal, or accounting folks; who had to interact with other folks looked like you have described yourself... Some of the men and women had tattoos im sure; but none of them looked like they had fallen into a barrel of fish hooks or had been hung from their ear lobes...    Ya can think and believe what ya want; but folks doin the hiring have eyes and they can see very well... Don't believe for a moment that lookin like Quequeg in "Moby Dick" is the mainstream... It ain't... Further than that, there is no "inalienable right" for people you don't know to refrain from making decisions concerning you based on how you look... They may be polite and not laugh, but they aint blind...   You may find this reply a bit offensive... It ain't meant to be... Ya can also be assured first impressions matter... Physical appearances are part of that "first impression"...     You have the right to look any way ya want, just as i do... I (...and others...) have the right to make judgments based on those looks; and many do... You put yourself at a disadvantage when you make certain appearance choices... If you are willing to accept that disadvantage; im ok with that...    I would suggest that ya think a bit about this little epistle... There, in fact, are those who you might term "appearance bigots" that may hold your personal appearance against you... I won't hold against ya on a personal basis because i've got a bit of a history with ya reading (...and agreeing with...) some of your posts here in this community... Others don't know you; and may not want to know you based on your appearance... It's sad, but true...   leroy
  21.   Oldogy... I like this one... Recently, i've changed my approach on the hog ring and piercing thing... I used to smile and act like it wasn't there...Now, i take a close look at it like it's a problem and is hurtin the wearer; then i politely ask if they need it removed... I always tell 'em that i have my pliers in my fishing tackle box and that i'll be glad to get the hook out... Strangely, i've had no takers, but plenty of polite "no's"... Its great to watch the reaction...   leroy, "...hook removal jhadist..." and old time fisherman...
  22. The fact of the matter is that there is a battle raging in this country between those who do work and those who don't... We all know who is who... We've heard the baloney and demagoguery from both political parties about the "safety net" and "compassionate conservatism"; all to buy votes and to pander to various constituencies... For the first time in this nation's history, the "non working class" united with disgruntled folks and elected a president who was non-abashedly anti-american...   This is a serious problem and needs to be attended to... Even the great "Bubba" Clinton realized the welfare thing was out of hand... I say we need to take care of those who genuinely need help; but we need to put conditions on that help... We simply need to eliminate the "freeloaders" and "career welfare recipients"...period... The drug testing thing is a step in the right direction... Another step is the requirement to continuously look for a job while on assistance; along with appropriate job training... I predict ya will see more and more of these things...   The sixties hippies did this country a great dis-service (...along with the great god Roosevelt; and that greatest of vote buyers, LBJ; with his "war on poverty"...) when they made "the dole" acceptable and inculcated the "...im ok-your ok..." philosophy into pop culture... My grandparents and parents thought "bein on the dole" was a disgrace... I do too; but there are many who don't and will get militant when the subject is brought up...   I say it's high time to declare war on the dole, along with the social security dole (...those. who get it, but didn't pay into it; e.g the "disabled" who didn't work to begin with and are only "disabled" due to drinkin and druggin...); and to fix the problem of the "non tax paying" segment voting largesse for themselves... As the old timers would say "...those who vote for a livin instead of workin for a living..."... It's an idea whose time has come...  Here's hopin it will take off...   leroy the "anti-dole" zealot
  23. Night.... " General George", indeed, said those things.... " lieutenant George" shot 3 Villa lieutenants dead with a colt 45 Colt Single Action Army as they were ridin down on him on horseback (... He was afoot...)... He evidently shot em dead with three shots and piled them on the fenders of a Dodge touring car and brought them back to camp... He was in his early to mid twenties then (...1916...), and wuz serving with General Pershing in the Punitive Expedition down on the US Mexican border.... The 357 came out in 1935, some 19 years later.... leroy Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24.   Mike.... A helluva idea... The ultimate "mexican reload".... If i remember right; the great George Patton carried an engraved 45 colt SAA on his belt and a 1903 Colt Hammerless in his coat pocket... Ya just upgraded his hammerless...!!  Great idea...   Keep up the good work... leroy
  25. Sounds like a case of "low priority/dont care" on the part of the local constabulary or a "brother-n-law" transaction at the scrapyard.... Some of the constabulary are doin their jobs and doin them very well --- some aint... Some scrapyards are honest and doin the right thing --- some aint...   Casual observation will reveal crime and "dont give a damn" are everywhere...  Sorry ya have to buy your own stuff back... It aint right...   leroy
