  1. While nasty, they're not quite the concentrated power of a tornado. Tornados will rip the chit out of any man-made structure if they hit it directly. Hurricanes/typhoons are lessened winds but spread out over a much wider area. I once sailed through a typhoon from Okinawa to Korea. The LST was basically kissing sides to the water, such was the roll of the ship. Guys were puking all over the place, it was worse than nasty. I avoided puking by not eating anything for a day & a half. We had multiple typhoons while in Okinawa as well. Wall lockers against the windows, doors secured & everyone sweated like pigs due to no air circulation. Fun times.
  2. Not if you knew the Clintons......................
  3. Which is why one prepares for the worst possible scenario & then adds 25% safety factor, IMO. Flooding is a good example. There's insurance plans for 100 year floods, 500 year floods, etc. Were I to plan a storm shelter, *I* would use the following criteria: 1) Shelter outside the house, away from the structure & trees so as to be able to exit it when the storm is over. Being trapped by a tree or house wall is NOT my idea of safety. 2) Screened/barred windows. Fresh air lessens the claustrophobic feeling. Allows one to check the storm action as well. 3) Landline phone connection. Allows one to call someone, somewhere to tell them you're in the shelter. Tells someone to check on you after the storm. Phone may go dead during the storm, but by then the call(s) should've already been made. 4) Electric feed. Have some of those emergency lights like commercial bldgs use when their power goes out. The electric will keep the battery charged until needed. 5) Water line & spigot. Water pressure may be maintained during the storm, allowing a bit of normalcy for the kids to have a drink from a spigot. 6) Shelter sticking up out of the ground by a couple of feet, neither fully above ground nor fully below ground. Allows for visual line of sight for the immediate area & allows a visual for rescue crews to see it easier. I went through a tornado as a kid, went through typhoons while in the Marines as well as worked a hurricane relief team. I saw what was a good idea, saw what wasn't a good idea for these types of storms. Floods like we had in TN in 2010 is an entirely different prep, IMO. My .o2
  4. You write like a guy who's never been in a tornado. Brick homes get ripped apart. I don't see a log home faring any better, IMO.
  5. I doubt anyone has ever accused Savage of being cutting edge on anything. I take that back. Their Accu Trigger in their .22 rifle line was pretty innovative. But they sure made a yawner on this one, IMO. This will maybe out-sell the Taurus Curve?
  6. Chrysler................
  7. Savage has come out with a polymer, striker fired 9mm handgun. Looks to be somewhere in the Glock 26 size, maybe just a hair bigger? Comes in three colors, with or without night sights. I don't think it's hit dealers yet. I'm doubtful of successful sales given the competition already out there. Time will tell. I'm on the record as liking their .22 rifles & own one myself. I also admire their old 99 model.
  8. Story & mug shots Guns seized appear to be one Draco, AR pistol, 3 Glocks (gee, what a surprise) & one M&P. One Glock was reportedly stolen from Gallatin. Goes without saying everyone should have ALL their S/N's recorded on a spread sheet & have multiple copies. Boy, won't the suspects' dads be disappointed.
  9. Labor to drop the tank, flush the lines, etc. Adds up quick.
  10. Lots of variables in your premise. What about folks who live by themselves, out in the country? Might take 2-3 (or more) days to get checked on. *I* don't want to be trapped in a shelter for 2-3 days. Bathroom, anyone? Now add in family members in there with you. Not planning an exit plan is a recipe for disaster, IMO. YMMV.
  11. Well............... that's not always wrong. People whom reload will make loads ranging from mild to wild. Using different springs helps control the ejection depending on the recoil. I would contend 99% of pistol mfgrs do their recoil springs to handle mild(er) loads so as to allow the gun to function with most loads. Hotter loads just speed up the slide using the same spring. I've always upped my 1911 springs buy a couple of lbs to prevent slide/frame battering. They all still ran like a top, just with a tiny bit slower slide speed. If people get offended by that sort of thing, they should stay well away from the internet, IMO.
  12. Look at your worst case scenario. Imagine your house flattened, all your trees blown down. Then imagine where the best place for a shelter would be away from all that debris so you can exit the shelter safely. Plan accordingly.
  13. As one whom was in a tornado when I a kid, allow me to opine. The house I was in when the tornado hit was totally flattened. As mentioned earlier, anyone who puts a storm shelter inside their home is suicidal, IMO. The old folks used to use their root cellars outside for shelters & they were smart folks, IMO. Doing one outside, under the surface also needs to have something to pump out rain water. Sump pump, whatever. Condensation, rain water, etc will make for some pooled water & it will lead to mildew & mold. A low watt bulb burning 7/24 would also keep it dry too. It doesn't have to be underground as also noted. The above cut away shows good thought with the rebar, concrete & brick structure. Personally, I would have added some slotted windows for ventilation. Good way to look outside too. My .o2
  14. If anyone has any interest, The Gun Crew has Colt Python blems for around $1500-1700. This is WAY under the current market retail pricing. Stainless steel, 6" barrels (that I saw). Hope this helps someone.
  15. I have an extra battery for a Nikon I sold off long ago. It's an EN-EL14, 7.4V. Comes with charger. I have no use for this what so ever but someone else might be able to save $50 & get an extra battery? Pass the word among your friends, someone out there should have a camera for it. Maybe a D60?
  16. He won't be able to dodge the civil suits though.
  17. That chit's funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Granny would've fit right in with my crowd.
  18. Mom & dad should be very proud indeed! Fine young man!

Man, I haven't seen one of those decades. One of the big box stores might have one? Gun Broker will certainly have some, somewhere. Allow me to politely suggest a gel butt pad................
  20. I went to the link & read the entire story. Complete BS, IMO. There were other stories by other writers also linked. All have writers with muslim or other foreign looking names. In short, none seem to be a "mainstream" American, IMO.
  21. That might get sued out of existence, IMO. Imagine buying a 10 year old used car & having an emergency or being stuck out in BFE because that sensor failed. That has lawsuit all over it, IMO.
  22. Could be. But anyone whom is hellbent on causing harm & mayhem can pretty much do so. There's no stopping some nut case, IMO. So party on, Garth!
  23. Nah, I haven't shot it yet. LOL!
  24. Nor are the gun grabbers lining up to see the alcohol makers nor the car mfgrs. No sir, they're only hellbent to sue the gun makers out of existence.
  25. Easy. They're two different designs & each affects the slide speed in different ways. Slide speed is 99% of where the brass is flung, IMO. The ejector plays a good part in that as well, of course.
