I have a Model 14 American Classic Savage, and I've only shot it a couple of times, I believe it will produce good accuracy with a bit of load development. I think it's prettier than the run of the mill Savage too. Mine is chambered in 250-3000, but I would expect good accuracy from a 308 as well.

I live out in the country, and shoot here as well. I find it inconvenient to go to the store and buy ammo or reloading components each time I want to shoot a gun. Local stores often do not carry most of the calibers I shoot anyway. I find it economical to be "stocked up" at all times. When something I use becomes low, I'll make one trip to the store, or online order to restock several things.

The model 18 is aptly named "Combat Masterpiece". :D

I'd look for an old Colt Woodsman, or High Standard model to your liking. Maybe an HD Military. You just can't find that quality in a new gun. They will also appreciate in value over time.   If you aren't opposed to a revolver, I can highly recommend a model 18 Smith and Wesson.

In the engine, there is combustion, and metal to metal rubbing. Used motor oil gets dirty, and has tiny pieces of metal in it, which can score the cylinder walls, piston rings, etc.   If transmission fluid doesn't overheat, I've seen little sign that it degrades. It does get somewhat dirty, but there really isn't anything in a transmission for it to wear to any great degree.   It's probably better to change it, but a car can be driven until the entire thing wears out without changing the fluid. I do not believe the same can be said of motor oil.

Never, unless I've had the transmission out for some reason.   I've driven several vehicles well past 200k miles with the factory transmission fluid, with no ill effects.   The only transmission problems I've ever experienced with automatics were leaks.   I do change the engine oil according to manufacturer's recommendations.

I guess you'll have to spell it out for me. I understand why you'd want to seat the lead tipped bullets that way, but why turn it around for FMJ? It seems to me that you'd get less runout on loaded rounds by applying pressure equally around the ogive of the bullet, rather than just pushing against the tip when seating.

The best news in all of this is that it sort of puts gun control on the back burner; at least for the near future.

Why wouldn't you seat FMJ bullets with the die set up the same way?

I meant to say 1909 Argentine.   I always meant to pick up one of those Carl Gustav Swedes back when they were plentiful and cheap. Even as a kid, I thought thaey were a "whole lot of craftsmanship" for the money. You snooze, you lose. I never got one, and now their prices are escalating rather briskly. Yours looks like a quite nice one.

I understand where you are coming from, and I dont like all the questions at the cash register either. What I'm saying is that the little girl at the register doesn't give a flip one way or the other about your privacy, constitutional rights, etc. She just doesn't want to get fired for not doing her job. She also doesn't really care whether or not you ever shop at that store again.   There's a right and wrong way to deal with this, and arguing with her just makes you appear to be a nut. As gun owners, we don't need the bad image.

The government, not the UPS guy gives a flying hoot what you are doing, as long as you aren't hurting anyone, breaking the law, or not paying enough taxes.   If you want to consider tin foil hat stuff, look at Google. Do you think it is a coincidence that random ads pop up that feature recent things you've searched? There's the folks who have the goods on you.

What did you gain from this, other than being a jackass? Is it really that big a deal to flash a driver's license? I have to when I buy beer. No one in that store made the policy. I wish more of us would try to paint gun owners in a good light, and not as pushy jerks.

Mine hasn't been dry enough to plant yet. I may just eat the bag of seed potatoes I bought. :shrug:
