For what it's worth... our plans changed a bit. Looks like we're pulling the kids out that Friday and taking them to the show instead.

Goes up every year, I think $135-150 for flame throwers... Machine gun rental varies by caliber. Seems like I saw something like 25-30 bucks for 30rd mag of 9mm in an Hk.
  3. Hk USP compact... Reason Bought: • Fit my hand (it was between it and the Sig 239) • No longer felt comfortable carrying a .45 that held 6 rounds. • It was new but they knocked off some of the price because they lost the other .357 sig mag, so they added a factory .40sw to replace it. • At the time the "Ban" was in effect so I was limited to 10rds. the sig only held 8, didn't seem like much of an upgrade for just two more rounds. • It met the criteria I was using at the time: a. Holds more than 6 rounds. b. Decocker c. DA/SA d. Hammer (Not striker fired, now though I'm cool with it.) e. External Saftey • I'd be lying to both you and myself if I didn't admit the allure of owning a famed "Heckler & Koch" product didn't figure into it. (The cost reduction made it equal with the Sig 239[.357sig also] at the time.) Why .357 sig.... • At the time several Federal and State agencies were going to it. • I was actively reloading and the stats were pretty impressive with ballistics and round to round consistency. • 357 mag performance in a semi-auto. • I knew if the caliber got too expensive to shoot, or became obsolete I could drop in a .40 barrel and keep going. (Didn't think .40 would disappear though, so better to get the rare now.) • Bottle neck cartridge - Thought it would help eliminate possibilites of jams. • Ladies love men who shoot that caliber. (Well known and documented internet fact!) So what about it now? I have had it about 9 years now. At least 2k rounds through it. Finish is showing some wear (or character ). I can't imagine not having it. It has exceeded my expectations and has been very reliable. It was bought to be my personal carry. As far as the USP Compact platform... I'm sorry it is being phased out. I would love to be able to pickup a used USPc in 9mm that is beat all to heck so I could shoot with the same controls cheaply one day. (*You can't drop a 9mm barrel in it, you have to replace the whole slide and all. Which is hard to find. ) I wish the caliber would have taken off more and prices would have come down. But I can still buy a .40 barrel, but the ammo savings are basically a wash for me. There are other guns I would like to have... JFrame, Hk P7psp, G19, M&P Compact, Kimber CDP Pro II, etc. But the HK Compact... she's my go to gun. Like a great dog, can't turn my back on her. Think I'll keep her till the end. I've got to go now... I'm... I'm... getting all misty eyed talking about her.

I'll be there with a group Saturday. (We'll have a blue backpack with a "JDRF" Logo on the back.)
  5. ..or the burden of posting correctly is on the establishment, not the HCP holder.
  6. My son in elementary school took a field trip to Publics. (Why I have no idea, but I digress.) As I read his opinion, a HCP holder could have been shopping in that unposted store when the school group came in, and as if by magic... it would mean the HCP holder is now in violation of the law. Am I reading this wrong?
  7. Known Mark personally for 20 years. Not only is he a good teacher, and does a good job of trying to make the class interesting with a little humor... his an all around GREAT guy personally.
  8. Maybe he needs to post an opinion on his opinion.
  9. I think they are trying to make it that way on purpose. :-\
  10. You'll get no grief from me. I understand the choices we have to make and the frustrations that go along with them. We all do what we have to... and what we think is best.
  11. There seems to be no level ground anymore.
  12. Doesn't it follow, with this opinion, that the same would then apply to businesses that do not post properly as well? Just curious...
  13. I always enjoy when you post concerning medical treatment and gear. One because you pretty much speak in lay man's terms so it's easy to understand... two because you bring out the practicality of gear vs. knowledge when you post. And third... in this case... that line "Look @ my name.:tough:" seriously cracked me up! LOL!!!
  14. This would need to be addressed at the School District Level, besides just emailing the Principal.
  15. Kinda turned my stomach as well...
  16. I've backpacked some in the smokies. My son is wanting to start as well. We had planned on trying to go this year, but it may be next before we can.
  17. +1 I agree completely. My MTAC is my most comfortable holster. When I where a paddle OWB I feel like the gun is miles away from me.
  18. Miss having you around here man... hang in there.
  19. Private property / Ranges / If hunting with a hangun
  20. SUNTZU has it covered really well. But this stood out to me as the most important. (I do backpack a little when I can. I don't have BOB though.) What you have inside your head is most important. I would suggest try backpacking some. Because that is basically what you would be doing. Great way to test both gear and yourself. Every time I backpack I find better ways to pack, and improvise gear better. I also know my personal limits. 35lbs on my back with my internal frame pack is all I really need. I can average about 2.5 miles up hill an hour. I see guys posting on Zombie Squad's Forum on BOB's It always tickles me to see guys loaded down with 50 lbs of gear and they look like they would have a rough time carrying bags from the grocery store to their car! LOL!! I can live for three days and three nights in the smokies with my gear I use for backpacking. I always thought of a BOB as a 72 hour kit of sorts. something to get you from "A" to "B"... know where "b" would be... I have NO idea! LOL! (*Remember, I don't even have a BOB. )
  21. While I don't really like the way "Cheaper than Dirt" jacked prices up a while back on mags... they do have a bag that might fit your need and budget. Click Here. I've never owned one or know anyone who has. So i can't speak on the quality. Personally I don't own a BOB, but do backpack some. I guess it would depend on what you wanted the bag to do. If it's just going to sit in a trunk or in the corner and get hard use maybe once or twice in your life it might be fine. A good place for ideas and things to carry would be Zombie Squad's Forum in the BOB Section. Members post their bags and contents for critique. Pretty interesting to see what others are using. Not sure this helps you any though.
  22. USPc in Mtac.... it's all I carry. So posting about it rather redundant.
  23. AWESOME!! I got mine there to! Though I paid a buck. If your open to suggestions I'd recommend... "Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team" by George Jonas It's a good one to follow that one or read before it. (Got it at McKay's as well!)
  24. There is an interesting mention of this practice in the book "Charlie Wilson's War". It talks about how they would rape the soviet soldiers they captured... repeatedly.
  25. Ahem... pictures please. (With your SBR in them as well, but... of course that is your call. )
