  1. Tom, To be honest, I have yet to think of a scenario where I would have to ditch the camper. What runs through my mind in this scenario is when we have towed our camper to Fort Wilderness Campground, which is Disneys campground. We drive through Atlanta usually around 8 or 9 pm. You cannot maintain a single lane and get where you want to go as the roads are constantly exit only, so I have to keep moving further away from the edge. And Atlanta traffic precludes leaving any out, via distancing while driving there. As I was once told by a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer, "Nature ahbors a vacuum." As soon as proper distancing is maintained some one will cut in and fill that void. As far as disconnecting, I can have it done quickly, less that two minutes if I have the remote in the cab of the truck. I can lower the landing gear from the remote. Once weight is off the hitch, I have to manually release it from the drivers side. Yes can abort and or reconnect just as quickly. We try not take the camper onto surface street as much as we can. We stick to the interstate and exit when we reach our destination. Yes there are always bathroom breaks and we try to hit rest stops for that and use our own toilet. I very much want to get a dash cam. In my usual procrastinating self, I havent made it happen yet.
  2. I am very glad you have brought this up. My family and I have played this scenario out several times. We have a 5th wheel camper pulled by a Chevy 2500HD 4x4 diesel, aka plenty of power and torque. I add that note for possible get away driving. When we first started towing a camper and traveling (myself, wife and son now 13) I wanted to carry something other than the sidearm I carry, which at the time was a Kimber 1911 Ultra CDP II. Initially my concerns were for bear when we are camping in the mountains. I am no planning on actively hunting said bear but wanted a decent defense of said bear. I also started carrying a Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 9mm just for more shots. As civil unrest has spread I have gave up the Kel Tec and now haul an AR pistol on our trips with 6 30 round mags . I have since also changed sidearms, its now a S&W M&P Shield in 9mm with a total of 4 mags Thats the background. Given the scenario, I hope to avoid it at all costs. Traveling with my family I hope to never, ever exchange gun fire with anyone. When we are on the road, the wife is usually on her phone looking at the maps/ news etc of our planned routes through cities. I have a scanner app on my phone that is bluetoothed to the trucks stereo. I dont usually have that app running. However as times are getting weird I do plan on having it active as we travel through larger cities on the interstate. Pulling a 35 ft 5th wheel isnt easy to turn around in tight or busy roadways so unless I plan to abandon the trailer (only in extreme cases) i am sort of stuck. I do plan to take alternate routes when ever reports of blocked roadways are aired. However there maybe a time when I cant avoid it. I do not plan to stop for them to attack me. I am usually in the right/slow lane and hope I can take the shoulder if needed. I plan to not shoot or ready a weapon unless violence starts. Then all bets are off, my life and my families life is the single most important thing at that time. I do not want to "spray and pray" shoot anyone, but I will be in 4 wheel drive at that point with no plans to stop, I will make headway at around around 10 mph, a bit slower if needed and much fast if warranted. Please discuss and point out my windows of fault and educate me how to better protect my family.
  3. I use the 1 to 4 ratio, one cup of sugar and 4 cups of water. I only have two feeders, one in the front and one in the back. The 4 cups last me a week.
  4. Haha, it isnt fun when "help" is provided. I prefer to back that 5th wheel down all my my lonesome. Then its a race. I like to do it in under 2:30 seconds. When help is provided (wife/son) it takes at least 5 mintues.
  5. Bring her down here to Cleveland your wife and mine can figure it out together. We have a 34 ft 5th wheel and a 1,100 ft driveway that I back down, down the hill and around the curve out onto a sort of narrow dead end with large drop offs on each side.
  6. Saw these guys about 15 years ago. They were the opening act for Social D.
  7. Red and Tom nailed it. We have a very, very long driveway. Down a hill, around a curve and out onto a dead end road that has large drop offs on each side of the road. I back our 5th wheel down it. I have tried to get the wife to do it and she is hesitant. Other than what Red and Tom said my only input is take it slow, slow, slow.
  8. We have had some interesting and extremely cheesy flicks on the DVR that have languished unwatched for years as well as some series. We have cut the contents of the DVR in half with the pandemic. We had given up on The Walking Dead and Fear TWD, Z Nation, The Last Ship, Colony, The Expanse and other movies and shows we use to watch. Recently we watched Zombies of Mass Destruction which had Doc from Z Nation. It was entertaining and just comical enough for us to enjoy it. On a side note, both TWD and Fear TWD have jump the shark and gotten very stupid. We still have the last season the TWD to suffer through.
  9. I had to mow today, 5 hours of my life I will never get back. I had all of Unwritten Law's albums on rotate for it on sound suppression head phones. Life is good, with good music.
  10. I was USN from 85 to 05. The Navy culture changed horribly after the Tailhook incident in Vegas. The Officers who participated got us all in hot water. After that we had yearly GMT about not raping, sexual harassing and other stupid crap I wasnt involved in. I was however counseled that I should stop my personal skydiving as it wasnt prescribed by the Navy and if I were to get hurt they would not be held to treat the injuries. And by 2000 it was horribly worse with even more stupid dont rape, dont rob, dont murder training. None of the activities I ever took part in. I sky dived, road motorcycles and shot guns at a private range.
  11. Another great SoCal band that never really got the attention I feel they deserve.
  12. I have seen Social D several times in San Diego as well as a few shows in Atlanta. Always a great show.
  13. There is only one thing better than the beautiful smile of a child, the beautiful innocent laughter tops it for me. I am a happy guy, pretty much all the time (after appropriate amount of coffee). I am living a great life, with a great wife and son. I have my faith, my family and my friends that bring joy to and warm my heart. Yes there are material things that I have and enjoy, guns and motorcycles, but my life is completed by the people in it.
  14. I can not say what I would do and being in that moment as training will dictate how each of us handles the stress. First and foremost I carry in defense of myself and family. If I feel like I am in a deadly situation where my life or my families lives are in danger of immediate great harm or death, it will be only after I have expended all the available ammo I carry. Now back to the situation at hand. I would like to think I would have rendered assistance to the now victims. I feel after I saw one person assaulted with great bodily harm I would have responded. Thats what I think, that doesnt take into account the stress, panic and pandemonium that took place. One thing I would like to bring up is that murderers mother, like in many situations as this, has said "Idris Abdus-Salaam's mother contends he was not capable of the unexplained violence that left three women dead at an East Knox County truck stop", "Walidah Abdus-Salaam, however, maintains that such a heinous act is completely out of character for her son" and "He's not a violent person," she told Knox News. "The picture they painted is ugly. That is not my son." From this link https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2020/04/09/pilot-stabbing-idris-abdus-salaam-mother-not-violent-person/5122340002/ So the mother claims he son was a good boy and not capable of such acts. As we are suppose to be staying home, practicing social distancing I cant help but think random craziness like this is more likely to happen more often.
  15. Thats in CA, he would be thrown under that jail now a days.
  16. We usually hit the Peddler and have not be disappointed.
  17. I know this to be a fact! For him to get into a CRV it would be akin to a giraffe getting into a VW Bettle.
  18. My back up in case of the no mustard scenario is a ketchup pack per slider.
  19. That is always my plan of action as well. One pack of mustard per Krystal.
  20. But I had to put new tires on the truck, new tires and bearings on the camper, traded the wifes Street Bob Harley for my buddies Road Glide, and promptly wrecked my truck in Texas. Add to the fact I put three more guns in the safe last year. I better slow my roll a bit or the wife will have me looking for a job. (For the record I am retired USN and a stay at home Dad. A job/Position that I never want to give up )
