  1. One of each, two of several, three of some....
  2. Thank you to the frequent flyers for helping to keep me employed. Just keep your eyes open and stay aware. And use lots of hand sanitizer.
  3. Yep, those are just mice/voles.  I have (had) them too.  I caught about a dozen in traps in my garage over a weekend about a month ago.  They haven't been back.    When using poison, please keep in mind that there's other beneficial critters (foxes, hawks, owls, ...)  that eat all these little rodents.  If they eat a poisoned mouse, they die too.  And, you never can tell where they'll die and you may have to endure the smell or go cutting holes in places to find them.
  4. We've got a pair of Dick's house brand 10x binoc's... Field & Stream, I think. They're pretty good for relatively inexpensive optics. I compared them to several higher end models in the store and they were darn close. The $500 ones are darn nice, but not worth it for my purposes.
  5. That's my first suggestion too. If you've got central HVAC, set the fan switch to "on" and leave it on 24/7. It'll keep the air moving in the house and equalize the temp room-to-room. You'll get used to the sound. Electricity usage is minimal. If you don't have central HVAC, running the ceiling fans in reverse can help bring the warm air down. A pedestal fan might make a little difference in the temp of the air you feel, though any sort of moving air will feel cooler than it is.
  6. I like Walter. He says all the stuff I'm thinking but can't say out loud.
  7. You should see him live..... whole 'nother level of funny but wrong.
  8. Glad it ended quietly.
  9. Good to know. I need to put an old pair in my bag.
  10. My wife shoots my P3AT just fine. She doesn't enjoy shooting it, but neither do I. I shoot it enough to be proficient, and that's all. Her Shield 9mm is way nicer to shoot. The .380 is a tool for a specific purpose, and it does that quite well. I'd say it's about the same recoil as a .38 snubby with less muzzle blast.
  11. I like to support the local brick and mortal places, but it's frequently not worth the aggravation this time of year. Thankfully most of our Christmas shopping is already done.
  12. Major suckage. Hope he makes it home safe!
  13. I think it's just a bunch of lazy students using any available excuse not to go to class.  They want to be able to tell people about how they "rebelled against the establishment" when they were in college.  Good for you, now shut up and fix that hamburger I ordered...
  14.     Easy... you call the police, let them do their job, and watch the story on the news the next day.
  15. Roughly 8% of the people in TN have a permit.  One could estimate that less than half of those actually carry regularly.  One could further estimate that a significant percentage of those who carry regularly would be running the other way as fast as possible, if that option is available.  So in a crowd of 100 people, there might be 1 other person who would engage.  The odds of getting shot by another "good Samaritan" are pretty low.
  16. Glad you're ok.  That's why I don't raise the whole front of the car when I change the oil, only one wheel.  Car in park (or in gear if it's a stick) and parking brake set.  If I'm working on the brakes and can't set the parking brake, I chock the front wheels with a couple pieces of 4x6.    When I have to raise one whole end of the car, I put something thicker than me (like a wheel) under it so it'll hit that instead of me if it falls.    Why were you taking the whole oil pan off?  Does the Focus not have a drain plug?
  17. Good luck fighting the 1st amendment at a school.  Unless the individual professors have policies about class attendance, there's little the university can do about it.
  18. I'd use my K31 if I get to go, which I seriously doubt at this point.  :-\
  19. You might shoot this guy a PM...  http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/62074-my-wheel-chair-holster-mountadded-open-gun-mount/   As for the bag type thing, you might find a way to attach something like this to your chair.  http://www.thewilderness.com/safepacker-concealment-holster/
  20.     If you were a Red Cross (or other such entity) certified instructor doing the classes for free, I bet they'd be willing to talk to you about it.
  21. Want school kids to learn it?  Get certified as an instructor and go teach them for free.  That's about the only way it'll happen in a school. The only formal instruction I had was in scouts.  Otherwise it was just the experience of watching Mom bandage me up repeatedly.
  22. Cool.    Your cleaning experience sounds like the first time I cleaned my yugo mauser.  I thought I was finally getting somewhere when the patches began to fade from diesel oil black to gray.  Then they started turning green.  I had quite a pile of dirty patches when it was finally clean.
  23. Currently available through the Red Cross...   http://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/school-programs
  24. I suspect you'd need enough thickness with wood that metal would be more economical.  Either way, it's gonna be expensive to build one.  You must be mindful of angles so that shot typically won't hit the barrier straight-on, and such that anything that hits it will be deflected in a safe direction.  Best choice might be to pick a few locations and build an earthen berm to sit it behind.
  25. Wow. Wish I had access to a place like that. My budget and time constraints wouldn't allow me to shoot a tremendous amount, but I'm sure dry fire exercises would be useful.
