  Yes, Ti is different than aluminum or steel.  It's very tough but also can be gummy like copper.  It also depends highly on what alloy of Ti he's using and it's heat treatment.  It's fine to cut it dry (just like Al or steel), he's going slowly, taking short and light cuts so the tool doesn't heat up, and using carbide tools.  He's also using an open mill without coolant capability.  He'd have to put some sort of berm around the mill and would have a heck of a mess to clean up if he was using coolant.    I'd guess that hunk of Ti cost at least $1000.  He's got another few hundred in the cutting tools, not to mention the cost of the mill and the time to do the work.

    Forgive my cynicism... can you provide any further detail regarding this case?  The idea that the judge "had no choice" to drop the charges" tells me there was some sort of snafu or loophole that required him to do that.  Stuff like that is exactly why I call it a legal system rather than a justice system.  But it's highly likely my flying leap to that conclusion is completely wrong. 

I can't find anything that states transporting class 2 wildlife is a felony.  Everything related to this says it's a Class C misdemeanor.  It does say that they can basically confiscate darn near everything used in the process (your truck or boat and everything in it, etc.)

Agreed. While our system is better than many others, it succeeds in some areas and fails miserably in others. My general opinion is summed up pretty succinctly by Mr James Hetfield....

Yep. Vent hose and overtemp sensor. If you use fabric softener in the dryer, over time it will gunk up the sensors. And speaking of dryer vent hoses.... Please clean them out periodically. Lots of houses burn to the ground from dryer vent hoses catching fire.

Most appliances are pretty easy to fix or determine if they're beyond repair.  What's broken?

My "flinch" is a low left hit.  I found it was related to squeezing too tight with my support hand because I don't do it when I shoot one handed. 

:wave:     I got serious about playing while in high school as well.  I had no life so I had lots of time to practice and got pretty good at it.  I've played most of the courses in the Chattanooga area as that's where I grew up.  Did the junior tournament circuit for a couple years, but I play golf because its fun.  Getting super competitive about it kinda sucks the fun out of it for me.    I'm not much of a gear hound, most of my clubs are knock-offs and they work fine for me.  The 4 wood I use is the first metal wood I ever got (yes, I'm old enough to have used real wooden woods) and I still hit it well.  Even if I had the money, I wouldn't spend the big $$ on all the new stuff.  Like musical instruments, it ain't the stick it's the person holding it.  I will admit to splurging on a Taylor Made driver.  I wanted to join the 20th century and upgrade the 25 year old one I had.  I paid $50 for it used.  :)

    15 cuft minimum.  That's what I've got and it'll be packed with what you've listed.   My parents have a 25 cuft and with just two of them, it doesn't stay full anymore.  With 4 of us, ours stays full.  Ours is an odd brand name produced by Maytag many years ago.  My parent's is also a Maytag and it's more than 40 years old and still works fine.  That said, they don't make them like they used to, which is good and bad.  Consumer Reports seems to like Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and Kenmore (made by Frigidaire) freezers.              I'll agree and disagree.  Depends on how much floor space you have and where you're going to put it.  If floor space is at a premium and you can put the freezer in a basement or air conditioned space, then I agree that an upright is the best choice simply because it's easier to access.  If it'll be in an unconditioned space (like mine, in the garage), then a chest freezer is probably better because it's more efficient.    Regarding organization in a chest freezer, most newer ones come with absurdly over-priced baskets.  My old one didn't have anything so I got some milk crates and plastic totes to help keep things separated and more accessible.    Note that most freezers put off a lot of heat... more than a typical fridge. Something to think about. 

  I'm right there with you.  I still have a glimmer of hope that I might get to quit working at some point, but true retirement ain't gonna happen.        And I thought about this thread a bit and it began to make me mad.  I spent nearly 7 years in college and have worked hard for another 15 to achieve this level of mediocrity.  If that ain't even middle class....   that kinda pisses me off. 

    You and me both.  But I agree with what Jonin says too, they're surveying people in big cities.  A $200,000 house here would cost 3-5x more in the northeast or and even more on the west coast.  While I do own a 4wd SUV, it's 10 years old and I paid cash for it used.  $5k for a vacation?  In my wife's dreams.  She's desperate to take the kids to Disney, which would be in the $4k range for a week.  We're planning to go back to HHI for less than half that in the fall. 

One of my childhood friend's father had a Luger.  I got to shoot it once, a long time ago.  My only real memory of that is getting burned by brass that landed on my wrist.  He also had an Uzi, but I didn't get to shoot that. 

    Pretty much all of this.    Mike, sounds like you have a great job and a good life.  When I started this job, it had a pretty strong "family" vibe where the big boss knew everyone's name.  Over the past 7 years it's quickly transitioned to just another faceless corporation, and I'm one of the minions.  That sucks big ones as that's exactly what I was trying to escape when I quit my prior job.    Based on the recent salary survey I saw, I'm below the 25th percentile in gross pay and that's rather depressing.  I'm sure that's significantly location based, but still....     We live a modest life on my modest income.  The only debt I have is my mortgage, and I wish I'd spent 15% less on that.  If I lost my job, we could make it 3-5 months on cash savings before having to raid the 401k.  I feed, clothe, and house the wife and kids and occasionally have a little extra cash for a few toys.  In the grand scheme, it ain't bad.

Congrats, the supertuck is really nice. Just be sure you've accounted for the extra width in your pants size, typically 2" in the waist. And get a quality gun belt, they make a big difference. And remember, most people wouldn't notice if you were on fire, much less a bulge under your shirt. Particularly is this day of cell phones the size of phone books.

Most morons like that are 99% talk. I witnessed something similar happen to another guy not too long ago. I thought about it a bit and decided that I'd enter the store for several reasons... the guy would have to "pursue" you inside the store and there's cameras and plenty of witnesses inside. I wouldn't draw unless there was a clear disparity of force.

If you keep the oil changed and don't beat on it, the timing chain will go 300k easily. Given the expense of things like AC and transmission repairs, the extended warranty might not be a bad thing.

Hard to go wrong with most any of the usual suspects.... Remington, Savage, Winchester, etc. Or you could try something different like a K31, Mauser, or a lever gun of some sort. Lots of choices.

I bet that's some darn good salsa. Our next door neighbor is from Texas and got some chilie pepper seeds from family there. He gave us some peppers and my wife used them in the salsa last year. It had a nice kick when it was fresh. After several months in the freezer.... Holy moly! The sweat beads started popping out after a couple chips. Nice way to keep warm in the winter. :)

Print out a copy of the airline's firearm policy and TSA's policy and keep them in your carry-on.  Can be helpful for educating uninformed employees.  I've had a similar problem at the post office before.
