  1. I would be lying if I said it didn't interest me.
  2. I started out with an Iver Johnson Lil' Champ. Same thing as a Crickett or Chipmunk. Single shot, bolt action, manually cocked. My father bought it for me when I was around 5. My daughter is 4 now, so she still has a year to go, but she already understands that it is hers. A lot of folks will tell you that a single shot bolt action .22 is the best rifle to start any child on. And I agree. However, I feel that any gun you know the manual of operations on and can teach with will suit just fine. I like the Lil' Champ/Crickett/Chipmunk because it teaches the order of operations. Load, cock, fire, eject, repeat. It stresses accuracy over quantity.
  3. No. I am familiar with several Celica Alltracs and MR2s running the 3SGTE that have been converted and tuned to run on E85. On average making 20WHP more with no other modifications. Other than the boost being cranked up. Granted as mentioned, the economy goes down, but anyone after those elusive ponies will sacrifice fuel economy any day of the week.
  4. I have an Iver Johnson rifle. It was my first gun, a Lil' Champ.
  5. Longneck drinks. Look for 7up, RC Cola, A&W Rootbeer, Sundrop, Cheerwine, all the Nehis. If they are in the clear bottles with little labels, they are High Fructose Corn Syrup. However, if they are in the short colored glass bottles, they are made with Sugar. Real Honest Sugar. I don't know what the distribution facility in Nashville carries, I could call and ask, but odds are good it is the sugar stuff. Longnecks are considered a 'premium' drink, and as such are produced with sugar. All Snapple (diets excluded) are produced with Sugar. Nearly anything in a can or a plastic bottle is going to have HFCS in it. BTW, I am in beverage distribution, betcha can't guess who for.
  6. Ethanol is great in a performance vehicle. You don't get as much energy out of it as you do out of regular gasoline, however, if you are running any form of boost, it will allow you to crank your boost up and make more power. If you have a way to tune, it is more fun than gasoline. The whole big myth about it though is hidden in the fuel lines. Ethanol is corrosive to rubber. The big Flex Fuel secret is nitrile seals. The ethanol won't eat through them. In a daily driven economy car, ethanol is a joke though. There is no point to it. You lose economy, and the price doesn't offset that, especially given the rarity of an E85 filling station.
  7. It is stories like this that make me realize what a great wife I have...
  8. There are several folks on Craigslist that will give you $200 for a car to haul off for junk. Last time I looked scrap was around $10 a hundred, which means they would get around $350+ for turning it in for scrap at Pull-A-Part or similar. The other option is Kidney Cars, a Church or a school. That counts as a donation and in most cases is tax deductible based on sale price of that car at a later auction. You could also try you luck posting it for sale 'as is' or 'for parts' on Craigslist yourself for $500 OBO and take you chances. If you are not after the profit and you just want it out of your way, I would donate it, if you want it out of your way more than you want paid for it, I would sell it for scrap and let someone haul it off for you at a price of $200.

  10. Not half shabby, I liked it.
  11. I am sorry, I didn't realize there was already one going.
  12. Gun rights: Supreme Court strikes down ban on handguns - latimes.com Way to go!
  13. I like my tattoos because they are me. Every one of them I have has a meaning to me. I don't have to explain them to anyone else, but I will if asked. My fascination with ink came from my grandfather, who retired from the Corp after his second tour of duty in Vietnam. He had a sparrow on each shoulder and a hula girl on his bicep. I remember as a kid, he would make her dance. My first tattoo was also one of the largest acts of rebellion I could fathom for my family, all of whom retired from the military. I got an anarchy sign tattooed on my bicep. I didn't go into the service. It was blasphemy. While my attitude has changed as I got older and matured, I still wear that tattoo with pride. Not because I think we should burn it all down, but because it reminds me my youth and how 'carefree' I could be. Back before the understanding of responsibility set in. Since then, I have gotten dozens of tattoos. Each one more thought out than the last, yet each one significant in it fashion.
  14. I have some of Dale's flash tattooed on my neck, his understudy did it several years back. I felt very comfortable in his shop.
  15. I normally make a smart assed remark like "I want to get a tattoo, but I am afraid it would hurt." The context is lost, because I have only met three or four folks from here for a moment. I am very heavily tattooed. I don't regret any of them. I like my tattoos. Time have changed compared to what they were ten years ago, and even more so than they were twenty years ago. Tattoos and piercings are more commonplace. They still have lots of stigma attached to them though. My one bit of advice is to get it on a place easily covered. Your upper arm is the best place, where a t-shirt can cover it, but a shorter t-shirt can show it. This gives you the ability to let folks see it if you want, but not to see it if you don't want them too.
  16. Thankfully religion was outlawed in Russia, they never would have known.
  17. I want one. Even more now that I hear they have gotten the issues ironed out.
  18. That is spectacular. It never fails to amaze me how fearless some animals can be when it comes to humans in the wild.
  19. I have looked at CCA, PDO and then a shop in Lenoir City. CCA is $25+TCIS, PDO is $30+TCIS and then the shop in Lenoir City is advertised (based on my conversation with the proprietor at a gunshow) as $15+TCIS. The gentleman in Lenoir City is a holstermaker by trade, but is an FFL dealer as well. His shop is on 321 to the best of my recollection. However, with that said, after spending a day in PDO and just perusing the stock and staff, I feel most comfortable at this point with PDO. They are a small shop, but they have a good feel. I use CCA for the indoor range, but I don't get a good vibe there. I have been in there a few dozen times, and to date, I have only spoke with one person that put me at ease and seemed to have a clue as to what was going on. I wish I had remembered his name, but sadly one good experience didn't outweigh a few dozen. To be completely honest though, I like Gander Mountain the most. There are two gentlemen that work the gun counter there, I only see them on the weekends. They are the most helpful and knowledgeable folks I have found working a counter in a long time. It is a shame about the prices. And I am not sure if Gander Mountain does transfers, but for some reason, I am thinking no. If there are anymore that I am missing, and I know there are, I would love to hear opinions about them.
  20. I like Justified. It is good, a little disjointed at times, as mentioned, but good. The characters are real, that is what I like. Now, SoA, that is probably my favorite show on television. There is nothing I don't like. I am anxiously awaiting the return. I haven't missed an episode yet.
  21. I think he had the gun shipped to a local FFL for the transfer. Meaning he already bought the gun, it is paid for from another seller in another state. It is however now bought and paid for in his FFL dealer's safe, because he bombed the background check. He wants the gun shipped back to the seller and his money returned. That is my understanding of it.
  22. I think I might go. I haven't decided yet. There is a lot of stuff I want, but not enough I can afford. Ammo would be the only thing I can think of that I have a legitimate reason to purchase. And like others, paying $10 to buy ammo defeats the purpose.
  23. I remember Drano Bombs from when I was a kid. We didn't do anything nefarious like this with them, but they have been around for a long time. Nothing new here. I guess when it goes from the innocent 'let's make something go boom' to 'let's hurt someone' that is when it starts getting media coverage. It is a scary world we live in, but it isn't as scary as some would lead us to believe.
