1. From what i understand, his most likely course of action via executive order it to be in clarifying the HIPAA laws so that states report more of their mentally disqualified persons.  As it stands many states believe that the HIPAA laws could subject them to punitive action for reporting of some mentally ill people.
2. The flip sight is pretty common as the majority of units now run an optic of some form. no conventinal units authorise the use of a POW for any military related training.
3. Another option for your situation might be one of the smart phone scope adapters that allow you to use your phone as a view screen for your rifle's scope.  This may allow you to still fire it from a much more comfortable position.
4. Peejman, Its bad writing is basically what it is.  What they most likely meant was individual weapon.  The army differentiates between individual weapons systems and crew serve weapons systems.   ArmyVet may be able to speak more on that particular range.  It is a possibility that it was a personally owned weapon if mcgregor range has a POW range on it that Soldiers and family members can access.  Each installation runs their POW ranges a little differently so i do not know if range 6 on mcgregor is an actual POW range.  If not then it would definately be a service weapon.   The easiest way to tell would be if there was a bust setting, but the persons fingers are covering the marking areas for the burst/FA setting.
5. JayC, i dont personnaly think it should prohibit him from owning a firearm.  Infact i generally hold that only those convicted of violent offenses should be prohibited.  It's just the irony of the situation that i was wanting to point out.
6. The upside though is that a round that is underpowered enough to stop in the barrel is also typically to underpowered to cycle the weapon.  You can feel the differece when it happens.  Basically if you fire and you experiance less than normal recoil and your weapon doesnt cycle then you should cease fire and check the barrel for an obstruction.  Unfortunately it doesnt describe the type of training that was being conducted.  If they were doing live fire training that included movement it is entirely possible that be barrel became obstructed by something other than an underpowered round.
7. Does anyone else find it extreamly ironic that a president that wants to ban certain firearms and expand backgrounds checks would grant a federal pardon to a convicted felon for the purpose of him buying guns.
8. I get Army safety bullitins fairly regularly and this is from one of those. The text from the bullitin is below. Unfortunately it does not discuss the cause of the failure. My thoughts are this was most likely from a barrel obstruction. Just thought i would share with the group. "A mobilized Army Reserve Soldier, deployed to the Ft. Bliss Mission Training Center was involved in a potentially fatal near miss live-fire accident at approximately 1909, on 26 March 2013. The Soldier was conducting training on Range 6 at McGregor Range when a weapons malfunction caused the Soldiers M4 personal weapon to explode. The weapon was destroyed, when pressure inside of the breach caused the upper receiver to disintegrate. As per the weapon’s design, the upper receiver broke apart and no significant injury was received by the Soldier. The Soldier was wearing all of the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment which included: Helmet, Body Armor (to include DAPS protective shoulder attachments), Eye protection, gloves, and Hearing protection. The Soldier was treated and released suffering only minor scratches. This accident highlights the value of wearing appropriate protective equipment when conducting live-fire operations. Firearms malfunctions often result in serious injury and sometimes death. PPE works, and in this incident, may have prevented serious harm to a member of our Fighting Team. This accident is still under investigation."
9. Like othershave said, great sevice great people.  Prices are fair.  The range fees are a little higher than other places but again its fair considering the quality of the range they have set up.  Some people really don't like the no reloads policy theres a couple threads discussing it that you can look through
10. Under the law of the state that this occured in it doesnt have to meet the federal definition of a firearm.  It has to be capable of firing a projectile that exceeds 600FPS     § 14‑34.1.  Discharging certain barreled weapons or a firearm into occupied property. (a)        Any person who willfully or wantonly discharges or attempts to discharge any firearm or barreled weapon capable of discharging shot, bullets, pellets, or other missiles at a muzzle velocity of at least 600 feet per second into any building, structure, vehicle, aircraft, watercraft, or other conveyance, device, equipment, erection, or enclosure while it is occupied is guilty of a Class E felony. (b)        A person who willfully or wantonly discharges a weapon described in subsection (a) of this section into an occupied dwelling or into any occupied vehicle, aircraft, watercraft, or other conveyance that is in operation is guilty of a Class D felony.
11. Even with just the power to nominate it returns some power back to the state.  If a senator does not do what is in the best interest of the state the legislature would now have the power to refuse to nominate them for another term.  Im with those above who feel this is a step in the right direction.  I would also like to see a term limit added to this bill.
12. They stopped building any more but kept the ones they already have.  nothing like a plane that cant fly more than 2 hours without a critical failure, and whos radar absorbing materials are damaged by rain.  Yea lets fly that over korea
13. A draft is unlikely at first if at all.  Before a draft you would see all reserves and NG called to active duty to include people serving in the inactive ready reserve.  Most people do not know that when you sign up for the military regardless of how short your contract is you are actually signing up for 10 years.  A certain amount of which is active or reserve the remainder being enrolled in the IRR.  So for example you sign a 3 year contract with the Army get out at the end of that 3 years you are still obligated for an additional 7 years in the IRR.  between those personnel pools the military should have enough bodies especially if they stop doing short rotations and have people over there for extended periods of time(which presents its on problems with morale and support from families).
14. I really liked this episode, think it may have ultimately killed the show but it was a good episode.  I would have liked to see what happened with the govenor after they drove off but maybe well see that next year.  Not sure about the decision to bring the whole town to the prison.  That may be what ultimately kills the series.
15. Yes, according to a release from the ATF personnel stationed at FT Campbell are considered residents of both KY and TN for the purpose of purchasing firearms.  I would reccomend as a CYA seeing a copy of his orders bringing him to FT Campbell
16. The mag capacity is the only thing that has kept me from buying one.  i swear if those things took glock mags theyd be the hottest selling PCC out there
17. I use a Vivint system and i really like it.  Comes with video monitoring that auto records when the alarm goes off with pretty decent quality video saved to an online server.  It also lets me arm, disarm, lock and unlock my front door and adjust my thermostat from my computer or smart phone well as view the live video feed.  Programable cypher lock on my front door and user programable disarm codes so that when we go out of town we can give friends access to the house without giving them keys.  I can look online and see when the lat time a door was opened or the alarm was set or disarmed.  it came with a glass break detector to   Monitoring isnt the cheapest but its not terribly expensive either
18. You could tune it more if you really want, but untill you throw a scope on to do some better accuracy testing id say leave it as it is.  Even at that distance your red dot is covring up 2 inches of the target.
19. The use of explosives is a key peice of their videos.  It is a large part of why they have so many viewers so they are profiting from mixing a binary compund into an explosive.  If they are doing it without the proper licensing it is illegal.  The LE agencies involved would probably argue that the large number of officers involved in the search is prudent given the fact that there was a very large area to be searched and the known presence of multiple weapons.  I dont necessarily agree but im sure a court would not find it excessive.  As far as no arrests from the search, honestly i think thats exactly what should be happening.  They had enough PC to obtain the search warrant and conducted a lawfull search.  An arrest should happen only after they have weighed any evidence gathered.
20. I thought this was gonna be another large black cat spotted in TN post
21. Anyone else notice that the guys eotech is on backwards
22. Thousands of rounds through multiple M9's and with the exception of 1 broken trigger spring, every malfunction i have ever had was due to magazine issues.  Learned pretty quick in the Army to buy and carry your own magazines and use the old ones that have been cycled way to many times without spring replacement for range use only.
23. Yet in february TSA signed a 50 million dollar contract for new uniforms.
24. There are some courses that show up on VMET that would work.  In my case the MP job description shows up as well as SRT school.   For the majority of MOS's handgun training isnt going to show on the VMET.  And honestly the DMV should actually be reading the VMET to see if it says anything at all about handguns.  The portion where it mentions weapons under basic training is not necessarily enough as it does not specify handguns and most MOS's never touch a handgun in basic or AIT.    If the DMV is not taking the scorecard then you should show them their own FAQ's.  If it is still a problem you should speak to their supervisor.      If it lists a handgun course you can use either one, but again since most peoples VMET doesnt the majority of Soldiers are better served useing the scorecard.
25. I use the large on my 9pro and keep a small on my full size 9. the one with the small is one of my HD guns so its set up that way as to be more usable by my wife
