Considering a trade for 2 DB10 AR308s. I've pretty much exhausted every online review whether written or on YouTube. Please understand that I wouldn't touch one of their handguns with YOUR cleaning rod, but it's a very attractive offer. Actual experience only, please.

I have short trigger fingers and big palms, so Glocks don't fit me very well. BUT, I've been a Glock guy for 20 years because they were the smart choice. When the M&Ps came out, I immediately bought a FS9 and a 9C and was thrilled with the ergos. I sold all but my G19 and G26 and then bought a Shield. The Shield is the only S&W that did not fail me. I had accuracy issues, Failures to extract, dead trigger problems and once the white dot fell out of my rear sight. 4 M&Ps went back to the factory once each but did not return reliable enough for carry. I gave up on S&W - except for my Shield which was flawless enough that I gave it to my grandson on his 21st birthday.    If I could be CERTAIN I would get a solid 9C and FS9, I would re-convert in a second - I like them that much - but that was the worst experience I ever had with a firearm. I plan to buy a G43 to replace the Shield and continue life as a Glock guy until Walther puts out a compact PPQ to go with my M2.

I've never gone PTAC, but I have recently put together 2 all-PSA carbines - 1 middy A2 profile with a CL Wilson (?) bbl, the other a PSA Premium pencil bbl middy. Both have blem MOE lowers and PSA Premium BCG (I had grave reservations). Both carbines have been a malf-free, accurate, JOY to shoot. I have about 1500 rds through the A2 and maybe half that from the pencil Bbl. PSA has made a believer out of this former AR elitist!   Neither weapon has any issues with cheap steel case Wolf. I could not find the blem(s) on the lower. A2 accuracy is 3.25 at 100 with a 3 MOA red dot and my 54 year old eyes using M193. Total price for the A2 PSA was $467.00 delivered with free shipping of all parts. Premium pencil Bbl was $529.00 total price. Oh - and slow shipping from PSA seems a distant memory, my stuff has been shipping within 3 days. What's not to like?

Turns out that one of the guns marked 65-3 was in fact a 65-1 with pinned bbl, recessed cylinder, and original walnut grips with medallions. Excellent mechanical condition with only very minor surface corrosion. I snagged it at the $250 price and took it to the range , where it acquitted itself quite nicely. I'm jazzed about this purchase and I'm looking forward to some polishing to purty this thing up. I'm thinking checkered Houges with no finger grooves in Rosewood laminate. Or maybe Cocobolo... or Pau Ferro?

Thanks for the info, GreginTenn. The story gets better. I asked to see several, so I could pick the best of them. Priced identically - and marked 65-3 - was a beautiful 65-1 with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. I grabbed it.

These are fixed-sight, square butt, K- Frame .357s.   I haven't been in the used revolver market for a long time, but doesn't $250 sound like a good deal? My use would be as a lighter-weight woods carry gun. An alternative to my 686.   Thoughts?

Don't forget body armor - the reason I'm a carbine guy for HD. I know 00 buck will hit with great force, but it will not penetrate good body armor. Headshots are another thing, but same is true with a carbine - which has faster follow up (misses) and a whole lot more of 'em.

Glocks tend to appeal to the more serious self-defense devotee. A high percentage of the top trainers in the country - men who could carry whatever they wanted to carry - end up carrying the G19. You are in VERY good company, OP.

      I've accumulated a ridiculous number of fixed blades in price ranges from Ka-Bar to Strider. My ESEE 4 is the "goldilocks" blade - just right. I think of it as the G19 of knives.

  Try it with some known, god ammo - preferably some "hotter" stuff like mini mags. Federal is good also. Sounds like some of the ammo you had on hand is old or underpowered and is not vigorously cycling the action. Is the spent case being extracted from the chamber - just not thrown clear? If it is not reliably extracting spent cases, that's another matter. Rimfires can be picky about ammo.

  So true. Ruger = sturdy, functional, not-necessarily-attractive. I'd buy a Ruger AK (after they had been out a year or so).

A wee bit of Googleage will tell you all you need to know except how it works in YOUR hand. I was sold on one after trying it out at Buds, but in the time it took to put the funds together, I shot a PPQ. Bought a Navy SD Walther and couldn't be happier. Don't buy a VP9 without trying a PPQ.

  Despite my precautions against theft, I didn't choose a prized rifle for this duty. It's a beater AK that still functions 100%, but that will cause no gnashing of teeth or open weeping if lost. I'm 53 and have never experienced a theft from a vehicle, nor has any of my friends. I work at one of Chattanooga's largest employers and can tell you that thefts from vehicles on our lots are very rare, but almost always precipitated by carelessness on the part of the owner. I've got the bug out bag and a handgun with plenty of loaded mags, but nothing says "Let's end this BS right freakin' NOW" like a determined, skilled man with a rifle.

Agreed. Not everyone's home/vehicle security preps are equal. It doesn't take much imagintion to envision many scenarios where a long gun would make all the difference. And it doesn't take much effort or money to make a trunk gun a viable reality. Most vehicle thefts are smash n grabs where the owner did not take all precautions - including a quality alarm system. Add NRA or H&K stickers on a car parked in front of a prohibited location and, well....

I think of my over achieving car alarm as an early detection system- IF they were not detected long before they reached the vehicles.

Speaking only for myself, the rifle "prepares" me to meet any number of unlikely, but still possible, scenarios encountered while traveling. It's far from my only rifle, so home defense is unaffected.It is in a discreet case that looks like a large, brightly colored raquet case and has a lock set one number off the combo for fairly fast deployment ( I always have my pistol). I keep the case in my trunk behind and beneath the folding chairs,plastic tote full of doodads,1st aid kit and seasonal sport flotsam. The car alarm is professionally installed and the volume level is,well,horrific. There is also a powerful strobe in the trunk and passenger compartment. I am careful to make it an unappealing target for theft-no stickers, no items in view. I'm not very concerned about it being broken into at my home for reasons I won't go into. In a public place,especially at night, a thief is unlikely to stay for the show.

I keep a folding-stocked semiautomatic rifle and a few loaded mags in my vehicle at all times. Surprisingly, this often gets a strange reaction from even some fairly serious gun guys. Thoughts? How many here keep a get home bag and/or a long gun with them?
