  1. I've just been given this by a really good friend (it's good to help out sometimes!) As far as I can tell it's a Model 32 (possibly a Terrier) in .38 s&w That's pretty much all kinds can find online about it. I found a couple on Gunbroker with values that, to me, seem outlandish, but I can't find any dating info for the serial number. It has one number on the butt, that matches inside the grips, but there's a different number on the inside of the crane. Can anyone help me out with dating/value info please? This is my first actual Smith revolver.....
  2. I got carried away on my Hi-Point Topic regarding this trade and reason I did and an evaluation of the Spectrum ( I have not shot it yet, just notice the scratch trigger pull - double action in case you did not know that). Summarize part of the reason for the trade was because of the $35 rebate on the Spectrum (by Taurus) and Smoky Mtn Gun did offer to trade. Not much offer, but $75 for the gun, case, extra Mag. So, final cost cash from me was $79.66 for the switch. Then thought I should start a new topic on the TAURUS SPECTRUM 380 based on my evaluation at this point. Maybe, someone has some experience with the firing pin (removal) that I don't. HMMM!!! Just realized be easier to go copy from my Hi-Point post to paste it here than to retype it. I did and came back to edit this post. I add an evaluation with out having shot the Spectrum 380. U-Tube reviews in general are good. It Is What It Is, a low priced small pistol primarily made for easy Concealed Carry, and not a target pistol although some folks do pretty good shooting it. I have not shot it, but did break it down, lube it and have racked it hundreds of times (cheap break in with out AMMO). By the way, a very easy break down, turn one screw head 1/4 turn CCW and pull slide off, put slide back on and the lock screw resets itself. Barrel and spring with rod is easy out also. My main issue not having shot it is the Trigger Pull, it is double only so a long pull before break and a long reset. The worst thing is the trigger is scratchy during the long pull. Having the slide off I noticed the trigger pull is very smooth with out the slide (only the trigger parts and not setting the firing pin in the slide). I then moved the firing pin back (manually) on the slide and you can feel the scratchiness. I took the spring and short rod (it's in the rear of the slide) out of the slide and you still feel the scratchiness when moving the firing pin by hand. Removing the firing in beyond what I did is a DIFFICULT procedure with a number of small springs and a pin involved per U-Tube posts (check U-Tube for Taurus Spectrum 380 Firing Pin Removal). There are only two posts and they are not complete.: One guy is misled in thinking the firing pin is the rod in the spring. That rod is not the firing pin, it is rod to guide the spring. He does at least show how to remove that spring and rod from the slide. The other guy's presentation is more informative as he did have his firing pin out at one time (he says). HOWEVER, he dose not show the removal. He points out that the main block in the slide where the firing pin is actually located (call it the firing pin assembly) can be removed. However, he points out he had a very hard time getting it back together as total of three little springs to deal with and a pin he nearly lost. I had not researched U-Tube before looking at mine (dumb), but at least I did not go so far as to remove the block (firing pin assembly). I did remove the rear spring and rod. I did then manually slide the firing pin (call it the tip the trigger moves) by hand and could feel the scratchiness. SO, IT IS IN THE FIRING PIN ASSEMBLY. The black tube 'thingy' I slid back reaches a stop, but there is a button (Thin about 1/4 inch) in the slide near the rear that releases that black tube 'thingy' and allows it to slide back another 1/2 inch. That exposes a bit more of the firing pin, a metal portion shows up that appears to have some wear (remember this gun has not been fired, but dry fired maybe 10 times at most). The black tube 'thingy' that seems to contain the firing pin is blocked from coming any further. SO, NOT MUCH ELSE can be done in that position. I AM GLAD I DID NOT GO FURTHER as not knowing what I am doing. I would like to maybe Emory Paper it smoother if I could gain access to it after a closer look. I will just go and see if it shoots at this point. Hope I did not mess anything up. ANYONE have any experience with the Spectrum 380 (in particular the firing pin and trigger scratchiness)?????
  3. Checking if any members own a Charter Arms 41 Mag .. I own 5 Charter revolvers at this time , and like them ... Im sorta waiting to see if they produce one with a 4 inch barrel like my 357
  4. I have been kicking around the idea of a cowboy gun. I’ve never been a fan of single action and never owned one. It might be time for me to give it a try. I buy American made when I can. Besides the Colt, is the Ruger Vaquero the only American Made? At $1800 the Colt is out of the question. Looks like a new Vaquero would be $633 plus a transfer. A comparable Uberti is $453.20 plus a transfer. Other than being made here is a Vaquero worth $180 more? It appears Taylor and Cimarron are just importers for Uberti, is that correct? This will be a range toy; it won’t be used for home defense or cowboy action shooting (right now). I’d like to hear your opinions on these, or maybe I should be looking at others? Thanks EDIT: I was going to start another thread, but I'll just add to this.... [COWBOY GUNS] Blackhawk vs. Vaquero? I’ve never been a fan of single action revolvers, but I don’t have a “Cowboy” gun and have been kicking around the idea. I do not want to spend the money on a Colt. It would be a range toy and I’m looking at used guns in the ~$500 range. I have never owned either, but I see a lot of Ruger owners claiming the Blackhawk is a sturdier gun than the Vaquero. Is it? Best I can tell is the Blackhawk has adjustable sights. That’s an obvious advantage, but of course Cowboys didn’t have adjustable sights. I doubt I would ever get into Cowboy Action Shooting, but do they allow adjustable sights? Can you use a Blackhawk there? What say you? Pictures would be great and also pictures of Cowboy leather if you have that.
  5. Over the last couple of weeks I have I have been able to pick up some nice revolvers. I got two Colt SAA's in .45 and a USFA in .44 special. The blued Colt is 1978 and the nickel Colt is either end of 1978 or beginning of 1979. Have not looked up the USFA yet. I love me some cowboy guns.

    Glock 48

Picked up one about a month ago and like it. Had Truglo H3 sights put on it. It had a 7 to 7.5 pound trigger and the rough Glock trigger face. Well this is the first Glock I have decided to mod. I used fine wet/dry paper to smooth the trigger face and make the trigger safety lever even with the trigger when the trigger is pulled. I polished the metal internals with 500/1000/2000 grit polish compound and polishing wheell . The polishing dropped the trigger pull down about a pound due to removing some very rough edges. You will get rough edges on stamped metal. I then replaced the striker spring with a Ghost INC. 4.5 pound spring and the safety plunger spring with a Ghost INC. reduced power spring. This reduce the pull down to 4.5 pounds. This is the best and cheapest way to reduce the trigger pull. All this cost me $10.23 for the Ghost springs and has given me a good trigger and is much easier for me to shoot accurately. I have shot the pistol after each mod to see what improved and what needs more improvement. I have gotten to the point where I am very happy with this pistol for carry. I now have about 1,450 rounds thru it.
  7. Lucky me! I was given on old revolver today. Does anyone have the info on how to find out when this Colt revolver was made by the serial number?
  8. as of 8/1/19 what is the current status of using a Sig brace on an AK or AR pistol? I heard it had be reversed to illegal class III status?
  9. Just got me a new 2.0 M&P . Great gun but the grip is really abrasive . What have you M&P 2.0 owners did if you encounter this ? I hate to sand it down right off the bat .
  10. Anybody got one or shot one? If so how you like it?
  11. Hey guys I have the chance to possibly trade a p365 I have for a vp9sk. What’s your thoughts on this for you guys that have shot or own both? I like my sig and I like the looks and ergonomics of the vp9sk. Let me know what ya think
  12. I have a Smith and Wesson model 36. It is a great little 5 shot snubby. What's the biggest complaint from people after they shoot a snub nosed 38. "It's too snappy!" Enter the Pitbull 380. A six shot cylinder, three inch barrel and the patented ejector for ACP casings, plus the 380 has comparable ballistics to the 38. That was my justification for buying one any how. I picked it up this morning and had a chance to run a few rounds through it. I was surprised at how smooth the DA trigger pull was and the cylinder gap is next to nothing. The lock up could have been a little tighter but it is within my tolerance. The first shot I thought was a squib accept for the hole in the target. No recoil! It sounded kind of muffled too. Once I got the front site picture right I was able to make one jagged hole at around 5 yards in single action and keeping a nice saucer size group in double action. The recoil was so low I could crank out 6 rounds quicker than I could fire 3 rounds from my 38 special. I just cannot believe that this little low recoil puppy has similar stopping power to my 38 special but I have it loaded with 380 +P and will start carrying it. 380 +P, that sounds ridicules. Kind of like a .22 short magnum. My hope is that my wife will be able to trade in her 22 and use this little pitpuppy but I might just keep it myself. I have always wanted a Charter Arms wheel gun.

    Glock 48?

My wife has a Glock 19 that she occasionally shoots. Her only issue is the grip is a little too wide for how small her hands are. Yesterday I let her hold and fire my Glock 43. While she loved the narrower grip of the single stack vs double stack 9mm, the short barrel and lighter slide creates a snappier kick. (which she did not like) Not to mention if she ever needed to use it in a self defense situation, the shorter sight radius and 6-round magazine could be a disadvantage. I think the new G48 might be the best of both worlds for her - longer sight radius and barrel, heavier slide, and a 10 round magazine. It just might be the perfect combination of the G19 and G43. However, she doesn't want me buying one for her until she can shoot a few rounds through it along side her G19 to make sure it is exactly what she wants. Does anyone around the Crossville area have a G48 that she test fire? We do go to Nashville and/or Knoxville every now and then too, so that could be a possibility.
  14. I've been looking at aftermarket barrels for a S&W M&P 9c (1.0 version with a 3.5" barrel), that I recently bought. Some barrels are a 1:10 twist, but I noticed that Storm Lake offers their barrel with a 1:16 twist. Can anyone tell me why a slower twist might be preferred to the 1:10 twist in the shorter barrel? Thanks in advance.
  15. Apex Tactical Specialties has released their Heavy Duty Striker for the FN 509 series of handguns. Pre-ordering is available as of this writing. https://store.apextactical.com/WebDirect/Products/Details/193350 The Apex Heavy Duty Striker for the FN 509, FNS and FNS Compact is a direct drop-in replacement option for customers with FN 509 and FNS series pistols. The striker is machined from a billet of stainless steel and heat treated for enhanced durability. But Why? Unfortunately the FN 509 uses an MIM (metal injection molding) striker which has been known to break, particularly with repeated dry-firing. FN recommends that dry-fire be done with snap caps only and never with an empty chamber, for this reason. Many other striker fired handguns have no such problems. Savvy FN 509 owners have been known to source the cast steel striker from FNS model handguns, which is identical albeit not manufactured via MIM, but supply of those can be difficult to find. This new Apex billet striker should solve both any reliability concerns as well as address sourcing problems of finding FNS strikers.
  16. This am, I ordered a new gun I've been wanting for a while. Walther PPS M2 RSMc 9mm. Has a Shield red dot sight with 4MOA dot. Should be here Thurs. or Fri. Anxious to say the least. Got zeroing to do. Sights co-witness with the iron sights, if needed. The dot stays on all the time & adjusts for light. We'll see how it goes, will take some getting used to. My old eyes, and tri-focal glasses, will, I think work better than with iron sights. Ordered from Lebanon Gun Shop, on Hartman Dr.
  17. I took 2 handguns to the range today and fired 50 rounds each. The first is a S&W 642 revolver. As expected, it functioned flawlessly. The second is an I.O. Hellcat II .380. It's an LCP clone made in North Carolina. I.O. primarily makes AK's and they've stopped producing this pistol. It was unfired except in the factory. I fired 44 Federal FMJ rounds and 6 Hornady Critical Defense that found their way into the bag. I had one failure in each of the last two magazines. One failure-to-eject and one failure-to-feed. I've heard that sometimes handguns need a break-in period. What would be considered normal? Thanks in advance.

  19. I have shot two boxes of Remington target loads through my new P365. That is 100 rounds. Of that 100 rounds I have had three light primer strikes and one failure to eject. WTH! I sold my Ruger LC9s when I bought t his Sig. My LC9s that has never failed to fire. My Glock has never failed to fire. My Colt 1911 has never failed! This is the worst experience I have had with a pistol since that Diamondback 380 (it should be called the Moneyback 380). Should I send it back to SIG or feed more ammo through it? If this pistol is ammo sensitive I will get rid of it.
  20. I have a G21 Standard and G30 standard. My hands are normal size but I never considered the newer SF versions. I found a G21SF for pretty cheap and not fired and jumped on it. WOW it is very noticeable once you wrap your fingers around the grip. I listed a picture of the 21 Standard and the 21SF together . For some reason Glock took the SF designation off of the frame near the dustcover and put it on the area where it shows Made in Austria. To me its one of the softest shooting 45ACP pistols there is.

  22. I finally picked up a Glock 48 for EDC. Nice pistol, feels and fits my hand well and carries very well but the trigger, even after some work, still sucks. I have tried a Sig 365 lately and found it is a good feeling pistol abet a tad on the small side in grip length. I may have made a mistake in picking the Glock over the Sig. Anyone else compare the 2 and what did you go with. Have a Nice Day!
  23. I always wanted a Sig P250. I have eyed them for years and past on one or two that I later wished I would have bought. I won one on Gunbroker for what I thought was an amazing deal (about $250 OTD). It is used but in very good condition. It’s a 40 subcompact and only came with one magazine and no box. I picked it up yesterday to be surprised by the excellent condition and half-life night sights. Call me crazy, but I actually wanted a .40 since my department has vowed to stick with them for a lot longer and I am swimming in .40 ammo. I seriously have about 3k rounds with most being hollow points. Well, I went to the range today and was less than impressed. My groups were the size of my fist at 10yards, but the failure to feed rate was about 5% or about 10 failures in 200 rounds. I’m thinking it may be the magazine as the spring actually feels weak. I was actually wanting to trim a compact grip to work with a subcompact slide; some of my attraction to this model. I plan to try a Glock spring in the subcompact Sig mag tomorrow. I am tempted to go ahead and order a new compact mag and a compact grip hoping I can make it run. Anyone around Chattanooga got a P250/p320 mag I can borrow for testing?
  24. Beretta also has a $100 rebate on this, which brings it close to Taurus pricing. https://gunprime.com/product/beretta-apx-centurion-9mm-pistol-10rd-jaxq920/
