<!--StartFragment -->"E-trace is a nationwide database maintained by the ATF that lists

a firearm's first purchaser, date of purchase and the retailer from

which it was purchased. The information is compiled from police

records of gun purchases provided by local departments, but until

today was only accessible by the ATF and the police department that

Gun registration at its best! I always figured they was keeping that stuff somewhere..To much paperwork to throw away and not save when buying a gun...Oh well,if they want them, they can have them back, starting with the bullets, one at a time!

This part doesn't make sense. How would police be able to provide it? Isn't the info with the FFL rather than the police? (I know that the FFL must provide all of the form 4473s to the BATFE when they close up shop).

In any event, it doesn't surprise me not one bit that the BATFE is doing this sort of thing.

I was under the impression that what they are doing is illegal. Am I wrong? Who's going to do something about it?

No one.

The government breaks the law every second of the day with impunity.

Anybody care to email me plans for a good tinfoil hat? maybe we should make these things out of something more sturdy.

I'm not surprised by this at all. We all already knew, or should have, that we have gun registration, or more accurately, gun owner registration. When a dealer goes out of business and turns over their 4473's to the BATFE, they sure aren't going to just destroy them. They will be logged in a database to be referenced by the government. Of course some of the guns that had 4473's filled out on them will have been sold to someone else, but the person who bought them will still be known to be a gun owner. Quite simply, Form 4473=delayed gun owner registration.

So, if guns are purchased "illegally", then there were purchased w/o the NJ police permission (in NJ one must get "permission" from the PD to purchase a gun) then how would said gun be in the registry?

Hmm, just another way to track the law abiding citizens, dunno.

I can see clearly now.....the rain has gone. Thanks TnTitan. I'd call you TT, but that would just rapidly degrade your nickname into something you might not like for every future TGO event. :tinfoil:

Is this really "national"?

From reading the article it sounds localized to NJ. Which was already antigun to begin with.

Like a disease that infects our country, it starts in only one state and spreads to a few more.

Are we all so stupid that we think the goverment goes by the laws of the people. ?Get a life. It is them and you and you do not make the rules or have the power to enforce them. You are at their mercy or you are fat dumb and happy. Figure it out for yourself. Fat ,dumb and happy is easier than trying to deal with a corrupt system from both sides. Neither side is a friend of a gun owner. When you accept this it gets a lot easier.
