New here with a quick (read:stupid) question

Recommended Posts

I've had a permit for about 6 years now, just found this site today(I've been frequenting packing.org for a long time) and thought maybe you guys can tell me I haven't lost my mind.

I was discussing the TN carry permit with a sales rep this afternoon, when he drops this line on me:

"yeah I have a TN carry permit AND a TN CONCEAL permit......"

I questioned it, telling him I'm 99% sure you can conceal with a carry permit and that I've been doing it for years. He then tells me that I've been in the wrong and that if I'd have gotten caught that I would have been in deep trouble. I'm supposed to carry open with my permit?!?!?!

Now I am totally baffled, even a little concerned. I can only find one type of handgun permit for TN, nothing about this special "conceled" permit. Can someone tell me that this guy is an idiot? To give him the benefit of a doubt, he did live in Florida before moving to TN.

Thanks in advance.

The TN Dept of Safety does not issue a 'Concealed Carry Permit'. If he's got one, it a fake (or, from another state). An easy way to verify whether he was BSing you would have been to ask him to show them to you, since you've never heard of such a thing...

Most likely, the guy is simply an idiot and doesn't know what he's talking about... avoid him. He probably has a CCW badge, too.

You are correct. The TN Handgun Carry Permit is valid for carrying a handgun concealed or openly. There is no requirement that you must practice one method or another.

Yep, he's a moron. There's no such thing as a TN Concealed Carry Permit. It's just called the TN Handgun Carry Permit, allowing you to carry open or concealed. If I were you I'd go tell him he's a moron. ;)

You guys have no clue.

I also have a concealed carry permit. It is a little-known codicil in the law that allows me to carry full auto and other class 3 weapons. I can also buy them without a background check or $200 transfer fee.

I got mine by sending $45 and my social security card and bank information to Eastside Gun Shop....
